Gina | 87 comments i have a quick question. Are Roger and Briana related? Roger is related to Duncan Mackenzie and so is she. Do they know this? (just started DOA)

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) | 169 comments I know the clan family trees are complicated but I'm pretty sure that Roger and Brianna are not related. Can anyone else elaborate on this?

message 56: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments They are related but back many many generations. Brianna's father is Jamie and Roger's like, great great great great grandfather was Dougal MacKenzie who is Jamie's Uncle (Therefore Brianna's Uncle). But it's so distant that it really doesn't mean anything.

Teresita A | 531 comments Hi Jessa, Yes I am very interested in seeing Scotland and seeing some castles and also visit Edingburg (which is where my sister went)...
And I 'finally' watched the movie P.S I Love You movie last night and saw how beautiful Ireland is...OMG it's breathtaking. The movie also made me cry and I am now officially a Gerard Butler fan. I knew he was cute and everything but I see now he has this certain 'something' that I look for in actors. He is Hot, just as Harry Connick Jr who was also in the movie is... And I was remdinded of Outlander while watching because in one scene they mention a place in Ireland called Dun Laoghaire and he pronounced it Le-heer...or something like that. Anyway great movie.

As Wendy mentioned, yes they are definitely related. Towards the end of DIA Claire explains this fact when going through his genealogy chart with Roger. And yes, they are aware of it: go on reading, this dialogue is in DOA!

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) | 169 comments Oooh, Teresita! You're a Gerard Butler lover now? Welcome to the club. He is my choice pick to play Jamie if there was ever a movie. Gerard is already Scottish and looks good in a kilt and has played historical roles before. Bring it on! :)

Yes Gerard would get my vote as Jamie ...his age is not that important to me...
I got this email from a friend yesteday:
GOD...Gerard Butler is so hot. Did Patty tell you that my husband was at Malio's yesterday for lunch with his work and Gerard Butler was there with his entourage(wouldn't let pic's be taken ). They're filming a movie (I looked online it's called "Playing the Field") here in the Tampa area and east coast of Florida. They were told they are going to the other coast to film and will be back here next month sometime. I'm going to send his secretary(my husbands boss) an email to see if I can get more details. I'll let you know what she says.

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) | 169 comments That's awesome! I would probably embarass myself if I ever met Gerard Butler in person. Lots of staring and drooling and looking utterly like a fool. He is so hot! I love his accent. Just hearing his voice gives me the shivers....in a good way, LOL!

Teresita A | 531 comments Yes I froze first time I saw William Levy when he walked in to room where we went to see him backstage at a studio in Miami for Cristina show and women came from all over to see him. My cousin snapped me out of it by reminding me to take pictures. Then i saw him again and took some photos with him and he was just driving all the women crazy. Everyone trying to get close to him. I was like in a state of shock at the sight of him being so close.
I know Hollywood has taken notice of him and Kevin Costner has express an interest in having him in one of his movies.

Gina | 87 comments I'm also a major Gerard Butler fan. But i just don't think he'd be a good Jamie. Unfortunately he's older than the needed age. I hope that they use him the Outlander though.

Hi guys!

I'm afraid I'm also having the same problem (i.e. my interest is waning). I'm about half-way through 'Voyager' and finding the going a little tough. Whilst I still love Gabaldon's writing style (although I do find it can be a little repetitive at times) I think the main issue is that I feel the characters lack motivation. What I mean is that in the first two books Claire had a very clear sense of purpose: at first, she was trying to get back to her own time and then later, she and Jamie were determined to prevent Culloden. With that focus gone, I'm finding the books more of a struggle since the plot seems to lack direction.

Have any of you any advice as to how I can recover my enthousiasm? Thanks in anticipation! N x

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments That's a tough one, because Voyager was my second favorite book. I didn't struggle until Fiery Cross, and then it was ONLY in Fiery Cross.

message 68: by Carren (new)

Carren Kay | 953 comments I'm with you Wendy, I thought Voyager was quite good. I had no problem with it.

Teresita A | 531 comments I love Voyager..it's one of my favorites. I am currently listening to the audio of it on my kindle.

Mary G. (nonometoo) | 319 comments Natalie, if you think of all that information you're reading now as background and a preparation for grand things to come; maybe it will be easier. You must be just before things start to take off. Hang in there, you'll be so glad you did.

Karen (EarthAngel2911) (karens_923) | 5 comments I guess I didn't look at her books that way. For me, I didn't need the distinct focus for each book; I was just interested in their journey together... (Although I confess it's been a while since I read Voyager. And while it was one of my favorites, I couldn't tell you exactly where the focus was... I read the first four one after the other, and all the details run together to where I don't remember the books separately.)

Mary G. (nonometoo) | 319 comments I think of DG's writing using the old example of an onion. They are very multi layered and it takes each layer to complete the whole. It may not seem like it; but, everything is significant and helps to build the situations that develop. That's why I love the way she writes; no matter how many times you read them or listen to them you can gain a new perspective. It also helps being in this group, because one of you may have a different take on something than I do. And, it makes it so much fun!

message 73: by Cate (new)

Cate (catemb) The only book I found hard to read was "An Echo in the Bone". For whatever reason, when I first got it in 2009, I just couldn't get into it. I read about 200 pages then stopped and read something else. It's only about a year later that I finally decided to pick it back up and give it another chance. I still struggled for the first 3/4 of the book... But I am really happy I read it, nonetheless!
I think it has to do with the fact that there are SO many different "main" characters in it... And some I don't care much about. Like most, I want to read more about Claire and Jamie, even though I agree the other characters actually add to the depth of their relationship.
One thing I really do like though is the historical knowledge I gain from reading it all... That's what I call having fun while learning! ;)
