Thoughts on how we influence reality?

I have heard a couple people mention how strongly this book spoke to them as more than just a fiction novel. It definitely made me think about how my own thoughts and perceptions influence reality. Is it really possible for some people to see the "weave" of reality, such as prophets and the like?
