Much nicer weather today, but stil cool. There are frost warnings for farther north in Minnesota tonight. Lilacs and crab apples are in full bloom and the scent is incredible. My neighborhood has lots of both so wherever you walk you get the great smell.
Only 6 days until the official start of summer! My first round of blooms is winding down and while there are things blooming, the next round is getting ready to Burst! Raspberries started ripening this week, have nearly a dozen early girl tomato's ripening as well so by the end of the month I should be able to start harvesting both! So exciting to see things getting ready to bloom and ripening!
Wow, Jo, this all sounds so good. I'm still waiting for some of the seeds I planted in the garden to pop through the soil--harvest is a long way off here.We got about 1.2 in of rain today which was needed, so now I think things will really get going. We usually get rain when the peonies are blooming and that's just what they're doing this week. So pretty and the aroma is heavenly.
We had another inch and a quarter of rain on Friday from some nasty storms - hail too. My poor beans that were recovering from last Sat got beat up again!
Finally got the spring clean up and mulch spreading done in the downtown park. A one-ton pickup load of mulch is all used up! Dug out some invasive daylilies and replaced them with Stella D'or. Now to just keep up with dead-heading, weeds, and tying up the asters before they bloom! Phew, what a chore!
We too had lots of rain. Peas and potatoes and bens are okay. Rhododendron blooms are really late and lasting forver because we seem to never have sunshine.Had a Father's day barbecue last night with 16 crowded in our little house but was very much fun. Hubby's birthday was a couple days ago and most of the kids were here plus grandkids. Our daughte came from San Antonio. She was thrilled with the weather because it was 104 in Texas.
Finally a little sunshine this evening and the humidity has gone down enough that I have opened the windows. My cats were going stir crazy not being about to supervise the neighborhood from their favorite windowsills. Have to go do some birthday shopping tomorrow for a couple of good friends and also drop off my vacume cleaner for repair. Hopefully will get home in time to get some work done outside before the next perdicted rain comes late tomorrow.
No rain here, just the usual "June Gloom" which means foggy misty mornings with warm sunshine by early afternoon up into the 80's. This week we are supposed to hit triple digits...oh joy! Not so much.
Yes, Cheryl, wasn't the sun wonderful yesterday afternoon/ evening! Now it is pouring rain, again! But it was so nice to see the sun! I worked way to hard in the park and my yard yesterday, loosened up by exercising in the "hot" tub, then just went to bed incredibly early, to listen to the birds and read while lying in my sunny room. So nice an end to the day!
Ended up staying home today and working outside as the rain is perdicted to come back tonight and last thru Thurs. Honestly I can't believe tomorrow is the first day of summer and I'm still wearing jeans! Other than those 2 90 degree days, it just will not warm up.Good weather for working outside, tho. Grand D, Jena, mowed for me and I finished planting all the stuff I grew in milk jugs, plus other bargain plants I have picked up. Potted the big pots on my porch, cleaned up the peony mess and edged my big island bed in the middle of the back yard. Feels so good to spend the whole day outside for a change.
Well...it didn't take long to get here. It was 100 today. I was under the impression we had a few more days of the June Gloom before the heat set. Oh well...it always comes, it's just a matter of when. Back to either early morning watering (not an early riser so probably not likely) or early evening. I watered everything this afternoon as they hadn't been watered for a week and I was afraid the heat would kill them off. Noticed I have two green tomatoes! Cool! Who knew I could get so frickin' excited over a tomato?
Checked on my worm bin--I was pretty sure they were all dead because I'd left them in a sunny area. But they survived! Yippie! Moved them to the shade and gave them a cool sip of water with wet newspapers. Also picked my first radishes today! They look yummy--bright almost fuscia colored. Can't wait to try them in a salad.
Cheryl, I am so glad you got a day of gardening! Terri, ugh, 100 sounds awful! I hate hiding behind closed doors and windows with the AC on, but with heat like that, one doesn't have a choice!
My oldest son came over monday morning (yesterday) to help me move a desk out of the attic so I can get it to the person who wants it. He also took a bookshelf with him, since I am giving him all the kids books I have since I am no longer watching the grandkids. Then I went to pickup my meds and stopped in at the ice cream parlor to chat with my friend there. Ended up staying most of the afternoon, had a good chat with her, and many people stopped in.
Perfect day in the Northwest. Going to be 70-75 degrees, sunshine and Summer Soltice party with all the girls. Riding over to Whidby Island on the ferry so will see both the Coast Range and the Cascades. This is the day why you live in the Northwest.
Hubby just took our daughter to the airport at dawn to fly back to San Antonio. Wonderful visit with her.
Garden does not look too bad either!!! Lucky me.
It was 47 here yesterday but rained all day which we sure needed. I was so glad. It should help our new chokecherry survive transplant shock. Today it may have got up to 75 but not sure.

I have a front porch, but it's not on the street so I don't get visitors. I do love to sit out there in the evening to read though.
