Good Morning! I'm still making my way through LOCKDOWN by Alexander Gordon Smith but I'll be starting Ash by Malinda Lo, later on.

message 2: by Daia (new)

Daia (daiapapaya) Good morning as well! I just started What Happens in London by Julia Quinn. Quite the weakly read!

I just tried a couple of Cheryl St Johns and really like them. I can't remember who mentioned them but thanks! And a lot of her books are available as ereads from B&N.

message 4: by Irisheyes (new)

Irisheyes | 896 comments That was me, Dls! Aren't they great? I felt like I'd found buried treasure. I also downloaded them from B&N for my Nook. Which ones did you read? I've only read THE TENDERFOOT BRIDE and HIS SECONDHAND WIFE so far.

I just finished EYES OF SILVER, EYES OF GOLD by Ellen O'Connell. Another western... I'm going to burn out on this genre soon. LOL I tried it cause I saw it was an AAR reviewer's buried treasure of 2010. It was good but I think Cheryl St. John and Kaki Warner kind of spoiled me.

*SPOILERS******* I can't put my finger on what bothered me. I liked the overall story arc. I liked the way the relationship grew to love between the H/H and how they were the focus through the whole book. I guess the attitude of everyone towards the hero through most of the book seemed a little TSTL to me. It is as if she needed conflict to continue the story and so she wouldn't let everyone see what was right in front of their eyes. It was still a good read and would definitely recommend it. Definitely worth it for only $2.99 for the e-book version.

I just finished Sweet Annie and really liked it. I haven't read a lot in this subgenre but I do like Jo goodman's books and Maggie Osbournes. And while it's a little different Crooked Hearta by Gaffney is not to be missed.

I just put Sweet Annie on hold at the library. It was the only St. John title among those y'all have mentioned that the state system had. I like using the library for new authors when I can.

I'm not a big fan of Westerns, but I do love Kaki Warner's books. Goodman, Osborne, and Gaffney are all writers that I'd read in almost any subgenre. I like most of Jodi Thomas's Westerns too. I've been skim-rereading her first four Whispering Mountain books this week while I wait for Texas Blue to arrive from PJ. :)

Speaking of new authors, has anyone else read Gwen Burrowses's The Heir?. I finally got around to reading it and liked it a lot. I did think it would have benefitted from some judicious editing. I also just finished Sherryl Woods's Beach Lane, which I thought was better than her last couple of Chesapeake Bay books.

message 7: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cindyw35) | 128 comments I've been too busy to get to the library, and my budget doesn't allow for any new books right now, so I'm rereading. I'm trying to decide between Ain't She Sweet? by SEP and Just One of the Guys by Kristan Higgins.

Now I am reading The Bounty Hunter by St John which has a great independent woman heroine. Thanks Irish eyes!

message 9: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 13 comments I'm reading Notorious Pleasures (Maiden Lane, #2) by Elizabeth Hoyt ...almost finished and loving it! Griffin is a great hero!

I'm almost finished with Ava Gray's SKIN HEAT. Really different Paranormal/Romantic Suspense. I didn't really love the first one in the series because the hero was an assassin, but I loved the second one and this one is just as good.

I suggest Ain't She Sweet. Loved that story, and when rereading it just gets better!

Yeah, but will he ever return her earring?

message 13: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 13 comments I dunno...not to the end yet Susan! Are your reading it too?

Susan (susaninaz) | 1075 comments Heidi wrote: "I dunno...not to the end yet Susan! Are your reading it too?"

I read it two weeks ago. It was sooo great! I'll try not to give any spoilers, but at the end Hero and Griffin are so obviously perfect for each other; (my reaction deleted so as not to cause contagious swooning)

I'm looking forward to her next book in this series but that won't be out until October 25th.

Not to give anything away, but the earrings are in the last scene...

Susan (susaninaz) | 1075 comments I forgot to mention:
Remember JQ's Lost Duke of Wyndham & Mr. Cavendish I Presume duo? Well, I'm reading Lynsay Sands' The Countess & The Heiress duo this week. I just finished The Countess last night. To me, it started out funny and then just fizzled into silliness. I will complete The Heiress, though.

Oh God, you guys are soooo teasting me. I gotta and get off this dang computer and start reading for the evening!

I have been reading more St.John. I tried Collins Seven Nights to Forever, because it was the only DABWAHA Historical that I hadn't read, and I loved all the others. I couldn't finish it. Did anyone else have that reaction? I found the characters and the plot unrealistic and unappealing, and I couldn't believe at all in the connection between the hero and heroine (I'll forgive a lot if that works!)

In theory I should have the new Sarah Addison Allan book on my nook today--but I cant get it to download. Very frustrating. I haven't had this problem before.

Cindy (cindyw35) | 128 comments Susan wrote: "I suggest Ain't She Sweet. Loved that story, and when rereading it just gets better!"

That's what I ended up going with. It's such a great story. It sucked me in right away.

message 20: by Susan (new)

Susan (susaninaz) | 1075 comments DLS: I've had that trouble a few times with my Nook. Make sure the wireless option is turned on, then turn off the Nook, wait a minute or so, then turn it back on and the book should download right after it identifies your wireless router.

I just finished Lynsay Sands' The Heiress. This was, IMHO, the better of the duo.

Dls | 2104 comments Mod
I think the book wasn't properly loaded on the website -- the wireless was fine. I got it later that day. Reread Marry Me. Her books just get better the next time around.

Dls, Seven Nights to Forever was a DNF for me. I didn't find it "boundary pushing" at all. I hated the characterization of the wife and had real problems with the motivations of the H/H.

I just finished Hummingbird Lake, Book 2 in Emily March's Eternity Springs series. I liked it even better than Book 1. It has a truly tortured heroine and a wonderful, hang-in-there hero. Now I can't wait for book 3.

Interrupting our usual chat of what we're reading to bring you this important announcement:

Eloisa's Storming the Castle An Original Short Story with Bonus Content by Eloisa James needs your votes in the DABWAHA tournament. (It's like March Madness for books.) http://dabwaha.com/

Also, I plan to start something new tonight but not sure what. I need to read the new JAL but I'm sort of enjoying putting it off because I know I'll love it. Anybody else do that?

Its been snowing like crazy in northern NV, so I get a snow day :D My weekend reading- Julie Kagawa's Iron Queen, Solitary by Alexander Gordon Smith, and Crusade by Nancy Holder & Debbie Viguie

Mrs.ColinBridgerton | 62 comments I just started and finished The Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen. While not quite as magical (literally) as her previous work, it was still a great book that I couldn't put down. Hence I started and finished the book on the same day, which is a lot considering how slow a reader I am.

I'm keeping the peach keeper for a quiet evening so I can read it without interruptions. I just finished Maggie Osbornes Stranger's wife. The plot is unbelievable but I really liked the characters.

Thanks, EJFan. I'm always happy to know that someone found my lists useful. I have fun creating them.

I tried half a dozen books that I just couldn't get into. So now I'm rereading a favorite series. That's my usual solution to a slump. This time my reread is Balogh's Simply books.

Mrs.ColinBridgerton | 62 comments Dls wrote: "I'm keeping the peach keeper for a quiet evening so I can read it without interruptions."
I know what you mean. I got it on Tuesday since I had pre-ordered it and waited until the weekend so I could tackle it because I wanted to savor every minute of it w/o being interrupted. ;-)
