S.T. | 1 comments There are a lot of reasons that I wrote Muffy. I was in a really messed up relationship with a crazy chick at the time and It was a way to work through the problems that I was dealing with in my real life. She actually hated it so much that she would read it periodically whenever she was in the mood for a huge fight.

Originally, Muffy was going to be a short story based on a dream. It got out of hand. It started out as a modernization of the concepts prevalent in Faust and I built on that by combining opposites and playing with taboos. I didn't want to indoctrinate people with my own views. Most of the things my characters do and say are completely insane. I just wanted to get people thinking so that they could come to their own conclusions rather than simply parroting what they have heard over and over throughout their lives.

I consider it an absurdist romantic dark comedy above all else, but many people classify it as horror because of all the graphic violence. I never set out to scare or shock anybody and nothing in there is gratuitous. Every scene of sex or violence is a metaphor for something. The main problem with Muffy is that it's too graphic for most people and the metaphors are overlooked because of it.

So far, I don't think that anyone has noticed the symbolism of the character's names. For instance, Muffy is a play on Mephistopheles and Sarah is a combination of seraphim (the highest order of the heavenly host) and Seera (a demon known to make time fly, or crawl). All the characters are based on entities from Christian mythology which personify a concept that build into a series of metaphors through their words and actions.

Ultimately, I wrote it because it was fun and therapeutic. If my readers enjoy reading it a fraction as much as I enjoyed writing it, I'm happy. If you would like to check it out, it's posted at the link below. It is not for the easily offended. You have been warned.
