Book didn't come up in a search; had to search for author instead

When I did a GR search for _The African_ by Harold Courlander, it didn't come up. I had to search for the author's name to find the book. Why didn't the book come up on my first search using the title of the book?

I searched for it in quotes "The African" and it showed up on the first page of results, near the bottom.

With a fairly simple title like that, you're always going to get better search results if you combine author and title.

Thank you for the tips, Lobstergirl! I'll keep them in mind. When I used the quote marks, the hit came up on the first page, near the bottom, as you said. With the author included, it came up at the top. There are so many little tricks to learn! Thanks again! :)
