Maudie Thanks, Anne, for pointing out the Major's similarites to Lionel of As Time Goes By. I tried throughout the read to think of who the Major reminded me of and couldn't bring the name to mind...senility, you know! LOL

Ha! Always glad to help out! :)

April I loved Major Pettigrew and Mrs. Ali! Such as sweet story about finding love again with a sense of humor.

Judy Major Pettigrew is quite the character. At first he seemed so quiet and straight-laced. What a great sense of humor and I would say that he is a hero! We were introduced to his son, and their problems which were quite interesting. The woman he fell in love with had many angles to her personality. Truly an interesting book!

Teresa Loved this book! I was left with a minor crush on the Major and wanting more of the story...

JoAnn I loved the line in the book when he and his friend got cornered into a discussion of the country club dance and they're considering themes. The Major expresses his wish that they go back to the days when they all wore formal attire. "Black tie is not a theme, it's the preferred attire for people of good breeding."

Andrea Burk His sense of humor was the best part of the book for me!!!

Andrea Burk I loved the major, but his son.... a different story!

Joclyn Andrea wrote: "I loved the major, but his son.... a different story!" I know what you mean about the son, he was definitely "out to lunch!"

Reilly Major was awesome. He reminded me of my grandpa, very old fashioned, very polite and very thoughtful of others with a wicked sense of humour.

Too bad the rest of the book wasn't as great as he was.

Laureen Absolutely! And the contrast in character with Mrs Ali was superbly crafted - they truly complemented each other. I firmly believe we learn more from life when we have relationships with people who have a different perspective on life and how we live it.

Laureen I loved all the characters in this novel. So beautifully depicted. Especially Major Pettigrew. This is one of my favourite novels. And such an English flavour!

Kendra Anne wrote: "I laughed out loud so many times in the book, but then I love the British dry wit. He reminded me somewhat of the character Lionel on the old BBC sitcom As Time Goes By, which is one of my favorite..."

Lionel!!!! That's who I was thinking of as I read the book. Very dry, very proper, trying desperately to hang onto his dignity in very undignified situations. I love that scene in "As Time Goes By" when Jean tells Lional to "stop that (smiling), you're frightening people". That is so The Major.

Grandma I wish there were more characters like him. I hope the author write more.

Joanne I liked the first 3/4 of the book, and enjoyed the Major's comments. I thought the whole thing fell apart the last 1/4 of the book.

Anniec It was a very delightful and charming read. I think I will always remember the Major and will certainly address him as such.
