LOL....I know what you mean. My nook actually uses page numbers, but sometimes when I pick the goodreads ebook version, I don't get page numbers.
The reason is very simple. Depending on how large your text selection is the text will flow differently. At the smallest text size a book may have 50 pages, while at the largest text size it may have 250 pages. That is the reason why page numbers are pretty much useless in eBook readers as long as the look/presentation can be adjusted by the user.
Well they could use page numbers if everybody agreed to that a certain amount of words constitue a page, then withing the OS of the ereader you could calculate the page numbers or at formatting.

LOL! I thought I had some quirks. I use to keep an excel spreadsheet of every book I ever owned that I could sort by all sorts of crazy categories. Somewhere along the line I lost it in a computer crash and it nearly crushed me! Now I just use Goodreads to keep track.

LOL I had started an excel page and then my books got moved about and now I cannot reach a majority of them. I have to look at my husband and and point to the location and color and title of the book. My nook page numbers don't change either....I can be on page 88 for a few turns....LOL
