Rachel Haimowitz (metarachel) | 5 comments Hi Danielle,

Sounds like you and I have a lot in common :D I also like the darker, grittier, adult material, and love Stephen King and Cormac McCarthy.

I've written one epic fantasy novel so far, Counterpoint, which has at its core a gay romance but has found quite a bit of traction among epic fantasy readers even of the straight male variety :) Sequel's coming out this fall, and I am going into deadline-freakout mode trying to get the manuscript finished on time :-p

Bradley Convissar (bconvisdmd) | 3 comments My name is Brad and I write good old fashioned psychological horror. You know, King/Koontz/Straub/Barker -esque horror. No zombies or vampires and slashers for me. But I read a butt-load of fantasy: a lot of D and D stuff, Terry Brooks, David Eddings (it's unfortunate his last series before he died sucked), RA Salvatore, Robin Hobb, Terry Brroks... man, I'm drawing a blank right now, but you get the point. Sometimes I feel like I have a bigger collection than some bookstores. Waiting for Sanderson to finish the Wheel of Time series and then I'll start that all over again. And how many years does George R R Martin need to finish a book, anyway?

LOL! Look how long it took King to finish the Dark Tower series. (zomg *squee* book #8!)

Ugh, I know. Never been so happy in my life for someone to get run over by a van :-p

(Well, okay, maybe there was this one other time . . . ;-))

Keta (ketadiablo) | 3 comments Hi everyone,

I'm Keta Diablo, erotic romance author, and I do write the occasional fantasy too.

Very nice to meet all and thanks Rainy for starting the group. Should be fun.

Horror and fantasy are both surging ahead. I see lots of mentions on all the loops and sites.

I'm on twitter so please tag me (I follow back) http://www.twitter.com/ketadiablo.

My facebook page (would love to have you join) http://www.facebook.com/KetaDiablo.Au...

Have a great week! Keta Diablo

message 9: by Keta (new)

Keta (ketadiablo) | 3 comments Rainy, maybe you could make an "For Author" thread. That way people can bypass it if they choose or read.

Thanks so much! Keta

message 10: by Stacey Jo (new)

Stacey Jo (st1ac2ey3) Hi all! I love to escape into a great fantasy. I love all kinds of fantasy... urban, paranormal, m/m, quests, shifters, horror, etc. Getting ready to read The Hellbound Heart (Clive Barker is awesome!) which is the book that the movie Hellraiser is based on and The Illustrated Man. I'm a big Ray Bradbury fan. This one is for the sci-fi/fantasy F2F group that I belong to.

message 12: by Angela (new)

Angela (dilaby) | 3 comments Hey there my chickie, LOL. Well you know my likes. Paranormal, fantasy, erotic, YA, a little horror, sometimes mystery/murder, and in the earlier days thrillers like Dean Koontz.
Loving the wide range of paranormal at the mo. Whether it be light, hard core or just inbetween.

@Bradley - I know what you mean by the Wheel of Time series. I gave up reading the newer books as there is so much involved in them. By the time the next book comes out I always forget who is who and what has happened. So want to know what happens in the end!!! I was a huge fan of Raymond Feist, David Eddings and Robert Jordan years ago. I'm sure I will venture back to them again. They are patiently waiting on my bookshelf. Need to finish Katherine Kerr series too. Sheesh, so many books so little time. :S

D.r. (drrux) | 11 comments Hi All

I'm Dan Rux, aspiring author of The Seventh Seal a dark urban fantasy loosely based around revelations and first in a trilogy.

I also run a blog (http://drrux.blogspot.com) where I show my short stories, book reviews and writing advice. I'm really excited to be a part of this group as most of my reading is dark fantasy novels, King, Koontz, Briggs and so on. I love classics like Bran Stoker, Mary Shelley, and John Milton.

I hope we all have a wonderful time here.

message 14: by Lakisha (new)

Lakisha | 1 comments Greetings all! My name is Lakisha Spletzer and I write Science Fiction/Fantasy (urban & paranormal)/Romance/Poetry.

I like to view myself as a cross-genre writer because I like to mix elements from the different genres to create my stories.

I have 2 novels out already with more on the way for this year: Werelove & Jewels

message 15: by Anita (new)

Anita (anitaloves2read) | 7 comments Anita here. *Thanks for the invite Rainey*

Not an author, just a reader...for now. I do write a blog, which as of current is basically a copy of my reviews here at goodreads, but I'm working on some ideas...
www.iloves2read.blogspot.com

I read a variety of books, but I guess I mostly stay with in the paranormal romance category. I don't like books about real life serious issues (get enough real life in...well real life), but every now and then I find I pick them up anyway because the plot just calls to me. I don't watch or read any real crime, horror, slasher, thriller material...that probably makes me a wimp, but I'm find with that.

I love books with female leads who can kick butt! (Mackayla Lane - Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning, Katniss Everdeen - Hunger Games by Suzanna Collins)

message 16: by Ami (new)

Ami (aimdoggg) | 3 comments Hi. I'm Ami. I don't write, I just read. I review stuff here on goodreads when I have something to say about it. I've started to write a few times (the whole "write a novel in a month" thing) but it takes a lot of time away from my reading. And I have a small herd of children to contend with as well.

I don't just read fantasy- I'd say my genre of choice would be science fiction (difference? Fantasy has trees, Sci-fi has rivets. I stole that one from Mr. Orson Scott Card.) But I also read a lot of non-fiction history and science, as well as anything someone recommends to me as one of their "favorite books". I think you can tell a lot about someone by the books they like.

I enjoy book recommendations and discussions. Thanks for the invite.

Heather Book Savvy Babe (booksavvybabe) | 5 comments Hey everyone, I’m Heather, aka booksavvybabe. I am a big time reader, and I have been a member of goodreads for over a year now. I recently started blogging my reviews, I am really enjoying this whole book reviewer hobby I have going on. I read a lot, but the main genres are fantasy (including urban) and romance (including historical and paranormal). I read a bit of everything though, depending on what kind of mood I’m in….

message 20: by Amelia (new)

Amelia (narknon) Hi all, I'm Amelia. I devour books as soon as I can get my hands on those you authors are writing.

I love fantasy and have ever since I can remember.

Currently I'm reading Steven Erikson's Malazan series, heavy stuff there, but great. I'm also reading Raymond E. Feist's Riftwar series. I've also recently discovered Carol Berg and Janny Wurts, two awesome but underappreciated authors. I'll give anything a try. I love YA fantasy too. (It's great to mix in some lighter reads with some of the heavier stuff.)

I'm in way too many fantasy book groups, but I try to keep up on it - so I'll watch this group and participate when I can.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Chaz Wood here. Generally a writer in multiple genres (dark thriller, horror, and graphic novels) but currently focusing a lot of effort on a new fantasy e-book serial, 'The Wish & the Will'. Kind of quirky by being inpsired by the likes of Pratchett, Monty Python and old-school (early 1990s) steampunk in general, and fully illustrated as well, so it'll be interesting to see how that shapes up...with a little help from Rainy perhaps...?! ;-)

I run a blog for myself, as well as providing info and experience-driven advice for other writers and self-publishers at: http://www.fenriswulf-books.co.uk.

I don't tend to read a lot of fantasy fiction, but enjoy movies in that genre. I also produce a lot of illustration and artwork in that field: http://www.chaz-wood.com

ALmost all my free time is spent writing and illustrating, and as such is now officially me second job.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

Tishia (Paperback Opinion) (tishia) | 4 comments Thanks for the invite! My name is Tishia and I have a book review blog called Paranormal Opinion (http://paranormalopinion.blogspot.com). I love paranormal romance and urban fantasy. I will pretty much read anything as long as it has some romance in it!

message 27: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (thebooknympho) Hi! My name is Jennifer. I work full time at an engineering firm as an administrative assistant. I'm also a part time student and married with one son. During my free time I try to get in as much "fun" reading as I can. I normally read paranormal romance, urban fantasy, erotica romance and some young adult.
I started a book blog back in March so stop by a take a look. http://thebooknympho.blogspot.com/

Scott (scimarusti) Hello, everyone... I'm Scott, originally from the Chicago area now living in downstate Illinois. I've just joined Goodreads today, and I'm still finding my way around here, seeking out groups of interest. I used to be an avid reader and I'm trying to get back into it and hopefully find some good recommendations here. I also write fiction as a hobby, having self-published a novel and some short stories.

Thanks!

message 31: by Kiersten (new)

Kiersten Fay (kierstenfay) | 12 comments Hey Everyone, I'm Kiersten. I love losing myself in a book. Also, aside from my nearly triumphant plot to take over the world, I write paranormal / sci-fi / romance.

If you're prone to falling for alpha male types, or overprotective demons like I am, then watch out for Demon Possession.

I also fear butterflies.

Thanks =^_^=

message 32: by John (new)

John Wiswell I'm open to all fringes of Fantasy. I grew up on and adore the medieval, mythical and feudal Fantasies of Europe and Asia, but there's a lot out there I've never thought about before. The living cities of Philip Reeve's Mortal Engines, or draconic tea parties, or unicorns gambling that global warming will wipe us out - there are tremendous horizons to the fantastic.

message 35: by Regan (new)

Regan Black | 8 comments Thanks for the invite, Rainy and hello to everyone! I consider myself a paranormal romance author, but that's because Urban Fantasy wasn't yet a category when I started my Shadows of Justice series. There are five books and a few short stories in that series now, and Justice Incarnate is always free everywhere.

I write lighthearted paranormal romance series too. The Matchmaker's Mark is book 1 and book 2 is scheduled for late May 2012.

And there's a YA fantasy short story series (there's a full novel in the works for that series)

Oddly enough when it comes to reading I'm an historical romance junkie, but I love to read a wide variety of books and authors from thrillers to SF/F to cozy mystery.

message 36: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Landmark (clandmark) | 5 comments Hi, everyone. Thanks for inviting me to join your group, Rainy.
