SOLVED. Benjamin Button -- man ages backward? [s]

The movie coming out is The Unusual Case of Benjamin Button, and I know it's based on a short story by Fitzgerald. But I'm *positive* I read something a few years ago, a full novel, fairly contemporary, with an almost identical plot. The man is born old, and ages backward through his entire life, and there is a love story -- I do think he gets married and has a child of his own at some point, and of course ends up as an infant in the care of someone.

I think the character's name was Max, and I really thought that was in the title -- The life of Max Whoever, or something like that. Help?
