Crusader (crusaderza) | 80 comments Science fiction author Neal Asher is giving self-publishing a go. He has just released a reworked reprint of his novella "The Parasite" on the Kindle. This was one of his first works to get published.

Available here:
£3.56 from Amazon.co.uk or for $4.99 from Amazon.com

As far as I can see there are no geographic restrictions, although the price varies for the different regions.

Depending on how successful it is he might release more of his work to which he retains the ebook rights. If you like his stuff, be sure to support this effort.

It's also interesting to see some of the big, established authors trying their hand at self-publishing.

Hirondelle (not getting notifications) (hirondelle) At amazon Uk I get the message "Kindle titles at Amazon.co.uk are available for UK customers only. "

But if I try amazon.com I can buy it but I get

"Kindle Price: $8.04 includes VAT & free international wireless delivery via Amazon Whispernet"

I particularly love the "free international delivery" adding $3.05 to price to "freely" deliver one ebook across the internet. I am checking prices on the www btw.

Nevermind, i really do not want the ebook and hate ebooks more and more each day. I just wanted to check about the geo restrictions.

Crusader (crusaderza) | 80 comments Yes, unfortunately I posted the original UK link from my phone which showed the UK price and couldn't detect that I wasn't in the UK, so showed as available.

The Amazon.com link is the one which should be available to all regions - hence my no geographic restriction comment.

Unfortunately all regions outside the UK, Aus, and US will have the "Whispernet tax" added to the price. The $4.99 would be the originally price the author intended.

Hirondelle (not getting notifications) (hirondelle) And best of luck to the author. But no kind wishes at all for amazon.

I feel exactly the same way. I'll only consider buying a Kindle once they do away with the extra fees.

Hirondelle (not getting notifications) (hirondelle) If rumor has it and they are losing out money on kindle, I would have no objections to buying one - but I would not buy kindle books from amazon ever.
