Saharvetes (saharavetes) | 11 comments Suppose, for example, you see a few books by "Joanne K. Rowling", and merge that author into "J. K. Rowling". This handles the issue for now, but if someone later adds a book by "Joanne K. Rowling", it needs to be noticed and merged again. (For instance, right now, this book: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/10... is attributed to "Joanne K. Rowling".)

Is there a feature for setting up author synonyms or something whereby we can permanently indicate that one spelling is the same as another? So that when other editions are added later, the process doesn't need to be repeated all over again? (This is probably not such a big deal for J. K. Rowling, since someone is likely to notice, but I've observed the problem with obscure authors.)

Saharvetes (saharavetes) | 11 comments The same thing that can happen now if there's another author named "J. K. Rowling". :-) Such a situation will be dealt with when it occurs. (If I'm not mistaken, when someone types "J. K. Rowling" as the author, it is associated with the Harry Potter author, even if hypothetically some other author was intended.)

No seriously, I see the problem, but for some of the obscure names it's unlikely there will be another author with the name.

Anyway, I was only wondering if some such feature exists and I just didn't know. If it doesn't exist, it doesn't matter; it's not such a big deal.

Thanks,

No, doesn't exist currently, is on the list to be done. I know this is picky, but it should actually be "J.K. Rowling" - no spaces between the initials.

Saharvetes (saharavetes) | 11 comments Ok, thanks. And whether there should be spaces between initials in general was something I was planning to find out, so thanks for that too. :-)
