had a pet rabbit when I was 5 or so (it lived only a month or two) and a pet cat around the same age, (before the rabbit, I think)but it too lived for only a few weeks with us as my brother was born in the meantime and the cat used to go and lie down with him in his cradle. Now my son has adopted a stray dog -its been with us for around 7 years, I dont know its age, but it looks and behaves very senile. So am prepared to lose it any time
