TTPBM: does the future scare you?

message 22002: by Selva (new)

Selva | 3391 comments Yeah, a little bit. Not due to climate change or geopolitical reasons but for personal reasons.

TTPBM same

message 22003: by tazmeen (new)

tazmeen ✨ (tazz_meen) | 1015 comments Definitely, next year's going to be really harsh because of studies. And other personal reasons. The year after that will be worse.

TTPBM: Same?

Selva | 3391 comments What is the TTPBM question? :)

TTPBM :- What is your biggest pet peeve in the world of books? Apart from "spoilers"

message 22011: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4069 comments I have a pet peeve that very few female authors specialise in the genres of sci-fi, theological fiction, legal thrillers, spy/political thrillers and horror. As a result I mostly end up reading books by male authors even though I wish I read more books by female authors. Only around 20% of the books I read must be by female authors.

TTPBM : Same

message 22012: by Selva (new)

Selva | 3391 comments Sometimes I buy books based on reviews on the back cover(at second hand shops) and they are empty praise sometimes.

Manya Dhingra (manya_reads15) | 30 comments When books have an intriguing cover but the storyline isn't that great.

TTPBM : Name a book that has contributed the most into changing you as a person and how?
( it might be a good or a bad change )

Sapna Bisht | 43 comments Austin wrote: "I have a pet peeve that very few female authors specialise in the genres of sci-fi, theological fiction, legal thrillers, spy/political thrillers and horror. As a result I mostly end up reading boo..."

that is actually a valid point.

message 22015: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments I don't think any book has had that kind of effect on me as yet. And frankly, I'm not very optimistic about such a turn of event either. Through books, I might get another pov or an insight of how not to behave in a similar situation. But nothing earth shattering.

TTPBM : Same

message 22016: by Selva (new)

Selva | 3391 comments I can't name a single book but books in general have helped in improving my perspective and outlook towards a lot of things. When I was in school, I read a lot of Balakumaran, a famous Tamil writer. His books shaped me in certain ways, I could say.

TTPBM if you could read only one authority/genre for the rest of your life, who would that be?

message 22017: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments I agree with toynSelva that books in general do shape one's thoughts and perspectives and braoden the minds field.
I personally dont think I'll be able to stick with only one genre for life. Life is full of sugar, spice and all that's nice and that's how our reading choices should be too. But if I really need to choose, it's a tie between romance and mystery thriller.

TTPBM : The one item on your bucket list you're dying to tick off.

message 22018: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4069 comments Historical fiction, I can keep learning new things about the past

TTPBM : same

message 22019: by Manya (new)

Manya Dhingra (manya_reads15) | 30 comments I really want to read in detail about the Nazi era and the life of people during that time.
Suggestions needed:)

message 22020: by Selva (new)

Selva | 3391 comments All the light we cannot see, The book thief, The Pianist (movie), Schindler's list ( movie), The great dictator (movie), The diary of Anne Frank. These should give u a good idea of life during the Nazi era.

My preferred genre: Literary fiction/ P G Wodehouse...he has written a lot.

Things to tick off the bucket list: Touring Europe ( which I think is not going to happen); so I would settle for visiting Kashmir.

TTPBM: Bucket list question

message 22021: by Preethi (new)

Preethi | 52 comments Want to visit Switzerland once!

TTPBM - what's a book that was unexpectedly amazing?

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments The Wrong Turn by N.C
Marshall. this was one of the free offers on Kindle that I had downloaded on a whim, and I was truly surprised by the completeness of the plot . very simple story but neatly tied up.

Selva, I would suggest you plan your Kashmir trip quickly before it's submerged on stiff again.

TTPBM : the one book you will definitely put down in the top 10 to read before one kicks the bucket.

TTPBM: Favorite Indian author?

message 22040: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments not one I can pin down as absolute favourite because it's more the story and the telling than the author perse. but If I have to choose I would put down Rabindranath Tagore and Amitav Ghosh. Vikram Sheth is also in the running. Balloon Kaur Shergill is another fantastic writer.
