Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. It was around 600 page read which I finished in nearly 1.5 hours with so much frustration, I just tossed it right after I closed the book (Ofcourse I picked it back) .That was the first and last time I'd handled a book like that!

TTPBM: A character you fantasize about?

message 21602: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments Fantasize no , but had a serious fan crush on Borei Gowda- from Anita Nair's Cut-Like Wound. I really liked the guy till he cheats on his wife. the bk was so lacking with elements just added for sensation - a let down. But this guy had the makings of a really decent guy. Well, as my teen loves to proclaim that men are just letdowns!

TTPBM ; have you read anything so ridiculously funny, that you couldn't stop laughing at it??

message 21603: by Selva (new)

Selva | 3391 comments I don't know if I am getting the question right. But every PG Wodehouse is almost ridiculously funny :)

TTPTM: At what stage do you decide to DNF a book?

message 21604: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4069 comments 100 pages

TTPBM : Have you read your Secret Santa book(s) and how was/were they?

message 21605: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments None of my Secret Santa thought of giving me a book, even when I literally write down everytime that the only gift I want are books :(

TTPBM : How much time do you spend of reading everyday? Do you read consistently or sporadically?

P.G. Wodehouse is a cult. But, i meant something really ridiculous..e.g
I recently read a novel set jn 1857, India and my female mc was a Brog running away from an abusive husband. She finds a horsd so " she mounts it and runs so fast she was gulping for air". So,she was running sitting on a horse?? This is ridiculous and ive pretty much told everyone about it.

Similar incident is what i wanted.

It really depends on the day. More house work, less reading time vice versa. But On ana average I do manage close to a couple of hrs , but compulsorily i do read a few pages before going off to bed.

TTPBM : the goriest book youve read
And why?

message 21608: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4069 comments £Sad to know Visalakshi. Couldn't something have been arranged with others who didn't receive books from Santa as well?

I can't think of any super gory book Leena

message 21609: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4069 comments I mean, let's say if I didn't receive book from Santa and you also didn't receive. Then we could have sent each other books. Just like they do it in PIFM when someone doesn't respond. And btw, I did receive from Santa. Just giving an example.

message 21610: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4069 comments Seriously Leena? You read 200 pages in 2 hours? I thought you might be reading 5 hours a day to be frank. or maybe 4. Lol

message 21611: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments Austin nooo but then if us really diotic and ridiculous one then I skip read. butin an hr I can easily manage 50 - 60pgs

message 21612: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments @Austin.. Sadly such instances were not possible, didn't have that many Secret Santas. But I did get one person and we used to exchange books all the time.

I'll answer Leena's TTPBM :

The goriest book I can remember reading right now is Carrie by Stephen King. I don't remember anything else now.

TTPBM : What are your hobbies other than reading?

message 21613: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments yes ,Visalakshi..
Carrie firs the bill. The Bone Collector I'm currently reading too has some gory portions.

other hobbies...I am a reiki practitioner and definitely spend an hr doing it. unfortunately 2022 has been a yr of sloth for me. I need to start my reiki and meditation again.
I picked up rainbow looming from my older daughter and really enjoy making those bracelets. my younger one flaunts them to all her friends. I've been wanting to pick up.loomknitting but have been extremely lazy regarding honing it. crochet is something I want to try too. I definitely have butter fingers.

TTPBM: what is the one thing you would like to do before you die.

message 21614: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4069 comments Meet any one of my favourite authors and get his/her autograph. I am more obsessed with authors than film stars.

TTPBM has met an author in real life

message 21615: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments Yes.. my uncle and my mother are authors! ;) Well they are small time authors. They have written non-fiction and short stories in local language .

@Leena... you have so many hobbies and I don't even know what they are! Have to google.. I'm the slob here I guess ;) It's so nice to hear you do all this!!

TTPBM owns a bookshelf?

message 21616: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments Visalakshi, what does that mean??

message 21617: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments @Leena, which part are you asking about? But what I said was that you have such great hobbies and it's good to hear these. And that I'm a lazy person!

message 21618: by Mridupawan (new)

Mridupawan Podder (itsfreelancer) | 342 comments @Visalakshi definitely own a couple of books shelves. I've one in my town which holds about 50-60. Also a small one in my current City. But my wife has made me promise not to buy more books because she wants to put other stuff in those shelves.

TTPBM food, adventures, books, sleep, travel. sort in order of priority

message 21619: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4069 comments Books, food, travel, adventures, sleep

TTPBM keeps books inside a divan or under a bed Bcoz no more space on the shelves?

message 21620: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments No more space that's so true!! But I don't keep them under the bed or anywhere in the open.. I have the extra books in few carton boxes.

TTPBM is a member of local library?

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments No, But I wish I was. We don't have many in my hometown.

TTPBM: Do you hold any degree/diploma in literature? If yes, did any particular book or author inspire you? If no, do you wish to have one now and if so, is it due to any specific book/author ?

message 21622: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments nope no drgree/ diploma on Lit and I don't want it either. I believe Lit students tend to be snobbish regards the books they read and analyse a lot more than necessary. one should read for pure enjoyment.

TTPBM : do you read fan fiction and which ones??

message 21623: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments @ Visalakshi- I was asking about book shelves. I actually have a cupboard full with books I'd bought especially for my daughters. We were in Dubai till a couple of months back, and bks are really expensive there. back jn Mumbai we are enjoying buying them again.

I don't read it anymore. But I love Cyber Stacy, by Kemical Reaxion.

TTPBM : What is the worst album you listened to?

message 21625: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments and I love reading Jane Austen Variants.

message 21626: by Selva (new)

Selva | 3391 comments I don't think I can say something is the worst album I listened to coz I listen to a lot of compilations nowadays on Spotify or youtube. But when I was buying cassettes, I used to like Bryan Adams a lot. still like him. And at that time circa 2005, his album Room Service came out. Bought it with a lot of expectations n it was totally underwhelming. But recently listened to a couple of songs from that album n they weren't bad.
TTPBM your fav musician among the ones who are hot now?

message 21627: by Akanksha (new)

Akanksha Chattopadhyay (akanksha_chattopadhyay) | 1126 comments Jonas Kaufmann, definitely 'hot' in his niche. Well, not so much a niche.

Same

message 21628: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments I don't listen to that many albums to know who's hot and happening :x

@Leena.. I have a cupboard too and it's overflowing!

I actually asked that question because I intend to buy a bookshelf this week and wanted to know what one has to look for ;)

TTPBM : What is your favorite book series and why?

message 21629: by Selva (new)

Selva | 3391 comments clarification: by 'hot' , I meant somebody currently very popular.

message 21630: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments @ Visalakshi: when buying a book shelf, r u talking if a wall mounted one? wooden one? because we went for utilitarian aspect - a steel almirah houses my books. I've got The strangest looks from people and movers who are convinced we are nuts.

message 21631: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments my sister on the other hand has multiple wooden bookvshelves but she'd bought them all in the States, second hand which she repainted and refurbished.
I'd check-out ikea and then promptly pass on that design to your known carpenter. I'm saying this coz my sis in law and devar insist Ikea doesn't last well in India.

message 21632: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments @ Selva, I understood but sadly I don't know any popular musicians or bands. I enjoy random songs suggested by friends and Amazon Prime Music depending on my mood. I mostly stick to local language, good old songs and the likes.

@Leena.. I'm thinking of getting a wooden one. I'm getting it made from our carpenter. I did consider steel ones, they are the best in terms of space. My cousin has them. But from her place I saw that they spoil the books in the long term, need to clean a lot. Plus it's in the open. I used to get lot of visitors to my house before covid and they just used to nick some books without my knowledge. Never got many of them.. been waiting since 6-7 years ! :D

Back to TTPBM , my question is still unanswered.

TTPBM : What is your favorite book series and why?

message 21633: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments @Visalakshi : my steel cup6are closed precisely to keep dust away. congrats for your new bookshelf.

message 21634: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments I used to not read series - I get frustrated with the repeated characters. but last year I actually did manage to read quite a few historical romance series and they really prove my point. Very few manage to maintain a consistent deliverable and I'd it happens to effect t my fav character, then I'm angry.
so far I liked the Spjnster Chronicles by Rebecca Conelly.

message 21635: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments I'd rate it at 3.5 overall. The Bridgertons is one of the most overrated series of all times.y only favourite bk was the second one about Anthony, the brother. the rest are simply trash. I hated Colins hea, and have vowed not to continue.

TTPBM: Your all Time favourite comfort read. the book you go to just because you want to. How many times have you reread it and did it meet the expectations

message 21636: by Luffy Sempai (new)

Luffy Sempai (luffy79) There is not a single one but there are a few, some of which I no longer reread, having done so prior to the arrival of the internet in my home.

I'd say that I've reread two books most of all; The Jungle Books by Kipling, and Night Fall and other stories by Asimov.

After getting a kindle, I'd say the book I have reread the most is The Mysterious Affair at Styles, by the one and only Agatha Christie.

TTPBM : Do you believe in God? And if yes, why do you think God made men?

message 21637: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments men as in gender or humans ?

Duh!! For entertainment obviously. He doesn't have internet up there. :p

TTPBM: Have you ever bought something completely useless from an infomercial?

message 21640: by Luffy Sempai (new)

Luffy Sempai (luffy79) Good answer!

I have never book something from an infomercial. I mainly buy subscriptions to services that I am exposed to on YouTube.

TTPBM : How many years until World War 3?

message 21641: by REENA (new)

REENA | 11 comments haha.. I hope at least 60 years, I have a never ending list of things to do.

TTPBM: When do you think Covid will end? If ever!!

message 21642: by Luffy Sempai (new)

Luffy Sempai (luffy79) At least 5 years for a really good vaccine to be patented.

TTPBM : If you had to choose between these two places to live, where would you? In the US, or in Canada?

message 21643: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4069 comments In the US, for the only reason that it's colder in Canada.

TTPBM : You tested positive for COVID at some point?

message 21644: by Luffy Sempai (new)

Luffy Sempai (luffy79) Not yet. Basic precautions saved me.

TTPBM : What argument would you posit in trying to convince a dear friend to give up meat?

message 21645: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments I wouldn't. its a personal.choice.

TTPBM: is animal testing cruel?

message 21646: by Luffy Sempai (last edited Feb 10, 2022 06:45AM) (new)

Luffy Sempai (luffy79) It's not something I know a lot about, but I'd say yes due to what little I know.

TTPBM : Who is your favorite (living) scientist?

message 21647: by Selva (new)

Selva | 3391 comments Elon Musk, if you could call him a scientist.

TTPBM: What is the best web series that u watched recently ?- could be old or new.

message 21648: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments I recently rewatched Person of Interest. I like it very much!

TTPBM : Do you like mythological fiction? What do feel when they deviate from original age old mythology?

message 21649: by Luffy Sempai (last edited Mar 11, 2022 11:21PM) (new)

Luffy Sempai (luffy79) I'm not interested in mythological fiction. MY favorite gods remain those of the Norsemen. But even those I would skip if they appeared on TV.

TTPBM : What is your favourite Hugo award winner?
