How important is the cover to a book?

message 20958: by Sharadha (last edited Apr 22, 2018 06:49PM) (new)

Sharadha Jayaraman (jayaras) | 1795 comments To pique the first wave of interest in case of a new book and the show off a paperback/hardcover on the book shelf in case of a classic (or older favourites).

TTPBM: Do you endorse minimalism (the Japanese trend of design)?

Fair enough :)

message 20960: by Selva (new)

Selva | 3391 comments I don't know abt the Japanese thing. But like minimalistic architecture.

Do u feel a case of information overload these days?

message 20961: by Sharadha (new)

Sharadha Jayaraman (jayaras) | 1795 comments Not really. There was always a lot of information around, there is just more accessibility to it now.

TTPBM: Would you befriend another introvert?

message 20962: by Selva (new)

Selva | 3391 comments That is assuming I am basically an introvert. I am partly. I already have an online friend who is an introvert. But we get along nicely.

same?

message 20963: by Yash (new)

Yash (vyash2k) | 809 comments Friends are friends, whether they're introverts or extroverts, so yeah, I'd certainly love befriending an introvert.

TTPBM, what do you think of the impact of robots and AI in the future? Boon or bane?

message 20964: by Ravi (last edited Apr 28, 2018 12:27PM) (new)

Ravi (goodreadscomuncertainp) | 4905 comments AI as of now mostly targeted application specific, it might take another decade or two to integrate AI fully into human lives....boon for some.

TTPBM Same?

message 20965: by Selva (new)

Selva | 3391 comments I like the Amazon Alexa n would like to buy it but I don't like the idea of a robot moving about in my house. it is going to be a while for that but still I am not a fan of that idea. I don't like this idea of driverless cars either. Hopefully, they will curtail development before AI gets ahead of us.

same?

message 20966: by Yash (new)

Yash (vyash2k) | 809 comments AI is a field which has massive potential, and the things we can achieve with it are endless! On the other hand, it's one of the things that are great in small doses, like medicine. Take too much, and all it will do is harm. The movie I, Robot (2004) is a perfect example of the scary outcome imminent if we let the field of AI and robotics progress beyond control.
I'm not against AI, but I'd sure like some control exercised over it.

TTPBM, what is your comfort food?

message 20970: by Sharadha (new)

TTPBM: Have you learned any form of martial arts (if not, then do you intend to?)? Which one?

message 20971: by Yash (new)

TTPBM - What do you do after eating or drinking at a beach? Do you litter? Or chuck the wrappers or plastic bottles in dust bin? What do you do if there's no dustbin at the beach?

message 20980: by Yash (new)

Yash (vyash2k) | 809 comments Well I havent been to a beach in 4 years, and when I did go, I didn't go to eat or drink; I went for the waves, sand and sun. :)

TTPBM, if you were given a chance to change one event in history, what would it be? Why?

message 20981: by Sagar (new)

Sagar (krishdareader) | 60 comments I'd decline. I'd rather use that opportunity to go to the future. What's done is done. I don't wanna disturb the sequence of events. It's also not advisable to mess with time
Raise a glass to the future.

TTPBM - Andaman or Lakshadweep?

Nice one.

I havent been to either of them, so both Andaman and Lakshadweep would be equally good to me.

To follow with your answer :
TTPBM, what do you envision around you if you get to go to the future? (You can't decline xD)

message 20983: by Selva (new)

Selva | 3391 comments Google had a "mobile first" ideology till 3-4 of years back. So now we get most of the things done through our mobile. Now Google has an "AI first" ideology. So a lot of AI products - Robots in various forms will surround you. Beyond that it will be like how it is described in the book Cloud Atlas, I think.

Same?

message 20984: by Sharadha (new)

Sharadha Jayaraman (jayaras) | 1795 comments I envision a lot of dead robots and nuclear radiation everywhere (ignore me, I just watched an episode of The 100).

Real answer - I see a macro Chernobyl with dead robots.

TTPBM: Same?

message 20985: by Yash (new)

Yash (vyash2k) | 809 comments Well I'm an optimist, so I'm pretty much hoping there's no nuclear war (current situation seems good). Robots will be omnipresent, but they won't have taken over humans, so they'd be in a symbiotic relationship with each other, I guess? Also, the Earth will become hotter than it is now, something we can't stop unless radical decisions are made.

TTPBM, best book you've read this year?

message 20986: by Sharadha (new)

Sharadha Jayaraman (jayaras) | 1795 comments Surprisingly a lot of 5 star reads this year until now, it's been goooooood :D Best out of the 5-starrers though, Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman, unputdownable!

TTPBM: Same?

message 20987: by Yash (new)

Yash (vyash2k) | 809 comments I dont personally keep 'favorites', but I'd nominate Origin by Dan Brown and Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn.

Same

message 20988: by Sharadha (new)

Sharadha Jayaraman (jayaras) | 1795 comments Already answered.

TTPBM: Are you someone who passes judgements in your head before voicing them out in words?

message 20989: by Selva (new)

Selva | 3391 comments Normally, not any disconnect between what I think and wat I say. But if it is something negative, I just keep quiet.

same?

message 20990: by Yash (last edited May 03, 2018 10:08AM) (new)

Yash (vyash2k) | 809 comments Forming judgements of someone/thing is a given, only the positive judgements are given voice by me; I keep the rest to myself.

TTPBM, ever been excluded from something you wanted to do?

message 20991: by Sharadha (last edited May 03, 2018 10:08PM) (new)

Sharadha Jayaraman (jayaras) | 1795 comments Memory gives way here! I guess I wanted to sleepover with a few girlfriends in my college days but mum wouldn't allow and they'd go ahead anyway, so that was one thing I wanted to do (and which happened) but I couldn't participate.

Yeah xD
Its happened quite a few times to me, at school and in my colony. I'm a sporty guy, I love playing alot. So once upon a time I used to study in this school in Chennai. They had a great ground for playing football and cricket. I wanted to be a part of the school teams for both. I approached the coach and asked whether I could take part, and they just brushed me off, saying "Sorry, the team is full". Funny thing is, the next day, I overheard another student talking to the coach, and here's what he said : "We have a couple of vacancies, we could sure use another member in the cricket team." Next thing I know, I see him playing on the next interschool. Kinda pissed me off, really, how unfair they were, not even holding a tryout. Nothing I could do about it tho :/
So yeah, that was one of the incidents I've come across.

TTPBM, holiday at the beach or the mountains?

message 20993: by Selva (new)

Selva | 3391 comments Hill stations any day though I did love Goa - the one I was there.

same?

message 20994: by Yash (new)

Yash (vyash2k) | 809 comments I'd pick the mountains, I've had my fair share of beaches for long enough.
