No idea about prices. There is a park, sort of, with flower shows and stuff, at eden apart from the ground. I haven't been in that part, though. Eden Gardens is next to Esplanade, the largest shopping district in Calcutta, so yes, no dearth of wandering space. Also, Maidan itself, with stretches of empty fields at the heart of the city is great place to go hanging out with friends.

ttpbm : Do you think India should opt for two different time zones ?

message 20723: by Akanksha (new)

Akanksha Chattopadhyay (akanksha_chattopadhyay) | 1126 comments I don't think it would improve anything. India stretches across some 30 degrees, doesn't it? So the local times of the extreme East and West are about an hour ahead and behind of 82.5 degrees East, the standard meridian. Doesn't register much of a physical difference, does it?

ttpbm: same

message 20724: by Purvika (last edited Nov 18, 2017 03:31AM) (new)

Purvika (violetstygian) | 1252 comments Yes, I definitely think there should be two time zones in India. One exclusively for most northern and Eastern India.

The sun rise and sun set is totally different there...
Sunrise in Jammu is 7 am where as sun set is 5:30 pm
Where as sunrise in arunachal Pradesh is 5:30 am and sunset is 4:30 pm

Sunset and sunrise effect education and employment. It might not seem big deal to.us but why should they suffer. Imagine you are living where it's already night by 6 ? They have different time zone they can work more efficiently. In most major countries, even an hour of difference have different time zones. These northern and Eastern states are getting effected by not having proper time zone. Just imagine if suddenly you're told to live according to their time zone... Would the rest of India agree to wake up at 5 am in morning and sleep at 6 ?

message 20725: by Jerry (new)

Jerry Jose (jerryjose7) | 469 comments I am in for the Chaibagan time zone. We've been taking it for granted.

same

message 20726: by Arpit (new)

Arpit (arpitjoshi) | 1332 comments yes, 15 degrees correspond to a time difference of 1 hr. So there is a time diff. of 2 hrs between eastern and western most parts of the country. That's a lot of wastage of daylight time. Also read that merely changing IST to GMT + 6 can save lot of electricity.
