Not really stopped, but Kite Runner painted such vivid imagery that haunted me for a long time after finishing the book

Same. But worse than Kite Runner was A Thousand Splendid Suns. The same happened with Lajja. I never read romances because this is the effect they have on me. Currently I've stopped reading Love in the time of cholera because of this.
