TTPBM-Where are intellectual films From india?

message 6152: by Nikhat (new)

Nikhat Hetavkar (nikbookchatter) | 403 comments Where? Umm do you want me to list some.
I like Katha, Chupke Chupke, Kahaani, Dil Chahta Hai, Chak De and few Smitha Patil movies.
I also found the Kishore Kumar/Ashok Kumar era classy. And if you meant to ask why there are non existent, I would say there are not. Good intellectual Hindi movies are just not found in mainstream bollywood. Hollywood churns out the same amount of mediocre movies every year so why the question raised only in respect of Indian cinema?

TTPBM : Same.

message 6153: by Prtsh (new)

Prtsh (mutated_insane) | 105 comments I agree wid all the movies you mentioned. But how many of them did well?? barring Chak de and DCH(coz both of them had two of india's biggest stars) how many were successful? Where are the movies like 21 jump street or say Contraband or The Prestige??
TTPBM^ same question

message 6154: by Nikhat (new)

Nikhat Hetavkar (nikbookchatter) | 403 comments Hollywood has a bigger talent pool and a bigger audience. No matter how sophisticated Indian cinema gets it will still pale in comparison to Hollywood. I haven't watched 21 jump street, I don't think it garnered great reviews. I like some masala movies, not all the nonsensical ones but yes once in a while I like a keep-your-brains aside movie. And that's what bollywood serves. As escape from reality. There may not be any originality, class or brilliance but it is what it is. Entertainment. Delhi Belly, Barfi and Jane tu ya jaane na. intellectual movies that were commercially successful.

message 6157: by Suchita (new)

Suchita (suchitatrivedi) All the intellectuality got drained out in Old movies "Old Is Gold". When we used to watch movies with our parents and family. In present day we avoid even telling movie names to our parents...

"Your thought over; we living our lives or just passing?"

TTPBM-Wildlife holiday or beach holiday?

message 6174: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 47118 comments Mod
haven't really thought about it. But I feel I may prefer wildlife holiday (if it means trekking, staying in jungle etc.) provided I have mosquito repellent, clean drinking water and a book to read
TTPBM: same

message 6175: by Nikhat (new)

Nikhat Hetavkar (nikbookchatter) | 403 comments Depends on the place.
If the beach holiday includes water sports, then beach holiday definitely. Otherwise camping and a safari would be just as fun!
