I thought this movie was very well done. It was suspenseful and Jim Carrey did a great job with the characters. I thought some of the subtitles for Sunny were a little cheesy, but she was a lovable kid. I also thought that Meryl Streep was very good in her role. I don't know how closely it followed the book series because I haven't read any of the books. It would be hard to cram an entire series into an hour and a half, I imagine.

I liked the movie, as well, but have never read the books. Based on Mauthor's description of the Count, I wonder how I would feel after reading them.
It should have said "inspired by"It was a very loose interpretation of the books. They took the basic plot and just made up the rest. I would probably like it more as a stand along movie rather than part of the series.
They did do a lot of cramming and a lot of the details I liked that were in the series just got lost.
Love Jim Carrey but he did not really fit as the Count the books described.
Are you serious (about Jim Carrey)? cos I found him quite scary never knew he could do acting he just goofs about mostly in his other movies.
I didn't love the movie or Jim Carrey. I thought he was too over the top. I think Johnny Depp would have been better suited for the roll.
