I love it when authors have “soundtracks” like this for their books (all the best authors do this, I hear XD ).

Actually I swiped a bunch of songs off G. Hale's hard drive to do an "editorial soundtrack" to make sure I kept a consistent mood throughout the (very long) edit process. Once all the books are released, I should post that. Ginn and I had fun picking out the songs. (I need more than one song on a loop.)

Barb Gilmour (barblikesbooks) btw Ginn - the covers are just too beautiful - "almost" wasted on an ebook; did you have input in designing them?

I leave the cover designs and such to the pros. Though I'd like to think that I inspired the art!

Barb Gilmour (barblikesbooks) very excited - i just bought Hell Cop and Hell Cop 2... having a devil of a time finding something to tide me over until next Rifter ... figure this may help :-P

I hope the Hell Cop books help!
I would certainly would recommend re-visiting any of Josh Lanyon's books, as well as Archer's Heart, by Astrid Amara and Ghost Star Night by Nicole Kimberling.

message 59: by Barb (new)

Barb Gilmour (barblikesbooks) I haven't read all of Josh's yet (shock horror, right?) I am alternating with other authors so that I don't finish all his books too quickly :) will look at those 2 for sure, thanks :)

message 60: by orannia (new)

orannia | 123 comments Ahhh, I have The Archer's Heart to read (in print format) after an amazing review by someone who opinion I value very highly. I can't wait to read it - it's going to be my winter read (as in next month since I live in the Southern Hemisphere :)

And I love Josh Lanyon's books.

message 61: by Ginn (new)

Ginn Hale (ginnhale) | 477 comments Archer's Heart is a lush, very original fantasy. Great choice for a winter read!

message 62: by Barb (new)

Barb Gilmour (barblikesbooks) "only" 3 weeks until next Rifter .... Damn! But you have me wishing my life away - not a good thing as a rule! Maybe if I could just hibernate through this Aussie winter :)

Did you know that by some weird and wonderful quirk of fate that Rifter 4 is out on the same day as Josh's next book? And later in the year his next Will/Tay book is also on same day as your Rifter release ?? Normally I would read the Lanyon immediately ... But am actually looking forward to reading yours first , knowing I have one of his to move onto next , to take the edge off LOL

Seriously how can 1 measly month take so long :( :(

I share your anticipation! And I think Josh's books will be just the thing.

I think that one book every two weeks would have been ideal, but it probably would have killed the production crew who have to do all the proofreading, typesetting, file conversion and cover art.

message 66: by orannia (new)

orannia | 123 comments I always check when watching films that include animals to make sure the 'No animals were harmed in the making of this movie'. And so I definitely wouldn't want any harm to come to the production crew of The Rifter!

message 67: by Barb (new)

Barb Gilmour (barblikesbooks) Hey a little harm never hurts, well, that much!! especially when it leads to my gratification :-)

Yeah, I do that too. Maybe I should include a note in the last book of the Rifter stating that no production crew, editors or proofreaders were harmed in the making of this book (... that I know of)

Ginn Hale (ginnhale) | 477 comments Barb wrote: "Hey a little harm never hurts, well, that much!! especially when it leads to my gratification :-)"
Somehow I suspect they would find a way to get back at me... like inserting Adam Sandler into random scenes :O

message 70: by Barb (new)

Barb Gilmour (barblikesbooks) Hmmm it could work ;-) just so long as they don't put Rob Schneider in too LOL

message 71: by Barb (new)

Barb Gilmour (barblikesbooks) No.... All the harm was done to us, your readers, mental torture!!! ... But in a good way ;-)

I was just reading over the final proofs for Book Five and cracking up over the idea of randomly inserting Rob Schneider in pretty much any scene!

Indeed! Made it very hard to focus on all rather intense drama with Mr. Schneider guest starring in my imagination... It does make me wish I could write comedy.

Now I’m going to have mental images of Rob Shneider peering around doorways and out of alleys--just lurking there as a constant unwritten background presence. It’s bad enough that I had “Bust Your Windows” stuck in my head while reading Servants of the Cross Arrows, and now this. @.@ “I bust the windows out your caaaar, and no it didn’t hit my broken heaaart. I’ve probably always had these ugly scars, but right now I don’t care about that paaaart…!” xox

'Bust Your Windows' has to be better than the cover of 'The Milkshake Song' by Buddy, that's been floating around in my mind, along with Mr Schneider... How I'm going to get to sleep tonight I have no idea.

Susan Hi Nicole,

I wanted to make a comment about a problem I am having reading the series. Not really sure you can help, but I at least wanted you to be aware in case this is news to you.

I receive each file in PDF format. If I read from my computer everything is fine. However, if possible, I prefer to read on my Kindle. I have never had a problem emailing PDF files to my Kindle with 'Convert' on the subject line, and this also works with the Rifter installments. What isn't working so well is that about 60% of what comes through is compressed, without the proper spaces between words.

I have never had this happen before on a download to my Kindle, and it has happened with all 3 installments of Rifter. Has anyone else mentioned this to you? Do you have any idea why this would be happening? Thanks Nicole.

Hey Susan this is Ginn.

I think you should be able to download the Rifter in mobi format from weightlessbooks.com. If you have any problems I know that Michael at weightless will help you out. He's a nice guy and a genius!

Jill | 1 comments Ginn, Sorry to temporarily hijack the thread, but I have to ask Barb a question about something she put on Facebook and I don't post there.

Barb - under the Casting Game you had with Karly you posted 2 pictures for Adrien and Jake. Was Adrien, Matthew Goode? and who was the guy for Jake? He's the first one I have ever seen that I think would be perfect in the role. Thanks.

message 83: by Barb (new)

Barb Gilmour (barblikesbooks) Well huh! It appears GReads as same FB reaction to posts, munch, munch, munch! I did answer.. Will do so again. Yes in my opinion Matthew Goode is a great Adrien. My pic for Jake was this photo of David Beckham - the whole way he has his jaw clenched, and is holding the coffee mug - really Beckam looks good as anything though :-)
