Brat Farrar wasn't a m/m either. Unless... did something skip my note? ;-)
I might have to get Gatsby as audio book too. Not sure if I'm up for the challenge.

Not for me."
Cool. I think Jordan's idea is great. I'd love to discuss this one with you guys.

I could just as easily borrow the book from the library or find a used print copy. But I'm kinda interested in the audio, since Becky mentioned Jake G. reading it. (I'll never spell his last name correctly.)

lol. I wasn't in a "gay" frame of mind in high school to even think to look for something like that in a book. It never occurred to me until late college that that was a thing and was fun to read and write about, as well as to look for in other things where it wasn't actually happening.

I read it long before m/m... so to think that way there may have been a hint or two.

Better for poor old Gatsby if they had.

Thanks, Antonella :)
So, July is coming up and I thought I'd recommend War Torn by JM Snyder. I've not read anything by her, but this has been on my wish list and then on my kindle for ages.
So, Jordan has suggested War Torn by J.M. Snyder for July BOM. Does anyone have any other suggestions or does anyone second Jordan's suggestion?
Calathea and I won't probably be able to take part in July's BOM discussion, but we're happy to set up the thread for it after we've decided on the book.
Our The Great Gatsby discussion starts tomorrow (!) and if it looks like that many of us don't have time to read and discuss BOM book in July, we can always extend The Great Gatsby Discussion to last both June and July. There will be plenty to talk about that one, I assume.
Or... we could choose a short story for July's BOM.
Any thoughts?

Extending The Great Gatsby sounds good (and i'll try to keep up if you guys decide not to extend it). I probably won't have time to read anything new-new in July either...
Ooookay, folks. Since the idea of extending The Great Gatsby discussion here has gotten some support, let's continue discussing The Great Gatsby throughout July. Some of you are still reading it, so I think we'll benefit from this decision.
I also set up a couple more Henry Rios Mysteries Challenge threads (for books #4 and #5) — feel free to post your comments in those when ever you feel like it!
ETA: I just realized that some of you must have read all the Henry Rios books already, so I just set up threads for all the books in that series! This way I won't forget to set them up later on... ;-)

And here is an idea — why don't we FINALLY have Josh's Fair Game as a BOM book in autumn?
Better yet, what if we'll discuss Fair Game in October and Fair Play in November when it's published?
What do you guys say?

Sounds great. I'm not very good at this Book of the Month thing, but I'll give it a go! :)

Would anyone like to discuss KJ Charles' Think Of England? I already finished it and even read some of the reviews (a detailed and very good one by Susan here on Goodreads), but I think it would be a very interesting book to discuss.
Varecia wrote: "I am still so very new to this group, so I don't know if I am allowed to make a suggestion for one of the next months before Josh's Fair Game and Fair Play reading:

Of course you are allowed to make suggestions for BOM reads, Varecia! Anyone in our group is warmly welcome to make suggestions and take part in the BOM discussions.
How it works is that everyone can EITHER suggest a book OR support someone else's suggestion. In the end we'll set up a poll for the books that have been supported — although lately we've been pretty lazy about this... or maybe we've just been very unanimous about the BOM reads the last months. :-) Anyway, sometimes we've needed the poll, sometimes not so much. ;-)
So, we already have July, October and November figured out. Feel free to start suggesting BOM reads for August any time you like. Varecia has now suggested Think Of England by KJ Charles.
Oh, and usually we'll try to remember to ask the boss if he has anything particular he'd like to read and discuss with us... what do you say about August, Josh? Anything special you have in mind?

It's great to see you on this thread! There's been the same old gang interested in reading and discussing the BOM books for so long that it's always lovely when someone new takes part in. :-) Not that there is anything wrong with the "same old gang", but the more the merrier! ;-)

I will try my very best! :-)

Some of us have, but not as a BOM. We can put it on the list as a suggestion. I think I would support that one. I'd like to know what you guys think of it. :-)
I loved Think Of England and would strongly support a group read/reread here.
I've read Lear's The Back Passage and The Secret Tunnel, and consider them to be gay erotica in house mystery/action-adventure formats, yet fun. The Hardest Thing: A Dan Stagg Mystery (per some of the reviews) seems to take a slightly tack.
I'd be interested in reading either or both as BOMs. Maybe one in August and the other in September?

In order not to confuse ourselves, should we not be nominating books for August and September just yet?

Yes, you have nailed it, my problem exactly :-))
I thought about Think of England while reading the discussion on the General News-Thread about power in a same-sex-relationship, it is a perfect example for some of the points discussed there by Josh, Alison and some others.

I think something kind of light would be a good choice after Nava.
It doesn't have to be fluffy, but I wouldn't object to a bit of humor and heart-warming?

Very good idea, indeed. I just started to listen to Nava's last Henry Rios book today — humor and heart-warming sounds perfect to me.

You're doing great, Sabine! :)

I will also throw my support behind Think of England. I loved it and I think it could make a good discussion book.

Me too.
Either The Hardest Thing: A Dan Stagg Mystery or Think Of England would be great.
We can go for Think of England. Maybe I'm leery because I am a very hard to please mystery reader and KJ pops up now and then in the group. But I like what I've seen of her work so far, so this might be a good one.
For me, Think of England was a delightful read. KJ is on my (short) auto-buy list now. I find her writing to be intelligent and engaging.

But that's good! We want at least a couple of us reading for the first time.

I read it the day it came out. Just like I read your books. : )
And I'm delighted with the idea of rereading with this group.
