I'm getting more and more annoyed with Amazon because their search function very often doesn't show up the cheapest Kindle titles; this is not the first this has happened. My Amazon Kindle search for Brat Farrar brings up this as $7.81 as best and indeed only offer.

Any tips as to how to get better results?

Until last week at least there were two kindle versions for Miss Pym and Brat Farrar, one was ~$3 and the other ~$7-8. Maybe they had a promotion thing for a while. I can't find them now.

You did actually better than me, because the cheapest Kindle edition I found in Amazon is 14.87 dollars. Soooo, I'm probably not the right person to be giving advice in this case. ;-)

The print Brat Farrar I just ordered from Amazon.uk was 5.99 pounds.

You could register a US address and buy from Amazon.com. They offer the possibility to register multiple addresses and choose which one to use. Just make sure you only use it for Kindle...

We seem to have the poll results for the June BOM book. If I read them correctly Like Coffee and Doughnuts won with 6 votes, while Brat Farrar came second with 5 votes. :-)

I set up the topic for discussion of BOM June 2013 here.

I, unfortunately, am definitely influenced by bookcovers, so that threw me off of purchasing it, as well. I'm wondering if any that are posted in GR would have been better Brat Farrar by Josephine Tey Brat Farrar by Josephine Tey Brat Farrar by Josephine Tey - It's amazing how classic can still look fresh with a newer cover :)

That cover must be a mistake! It has absolutely nothing to do with the book. I can't even begin to guess which character it's meant to be.

Of the new covers, I think the one with the man and the horse is by far the best. Although the purple one is quite clever it doesn't really capture the mood.

Well, no we don't. And since it's already July... What would you guys think if we'd take a look at the last BOM book poll and read the book that came up second? That would be Brat Farrar by Josephine Tey. What do you think?

Okey-dokey. Because nobody objected to Brat Farrar by Josephine Tey being our July BOM book and some of you even liked the idea, I'd say we carry out that plan.

By the way, those of you who like audio books can find Brat Farrar on Audible, too. :-)

HJ | 3603 comments Excellent! As you'll know from comments I've made in the past this is one of my all-time favourite books, so I'm delighted everyone is going to get a chance to see how good it is. I hope everyone enjoys it - just bear in mind when you're reading it that it was first published in 1949.

So next month is coming up rather fast and I thought I'd resuggest Fadeout for the book since people want to start a topic on it. Reading it for BOM would be a good introduction I think.

Thoughts?

Calathea | 6034 comments So it's settled then? Fadeout for next month's BOM? No polls needed? ;-)

I'm going to sit this one out as I need to catch up with some other reading duties...

We could create a challenge for the whole volume. What do you think?

Yeah, I think it's pretty much settled. We can have a "real" poll again next month, right?

Okay, we'll either set up a normal BOM topic for Fadeout AND a special challenge topic for the rest of the series OR only one topic for both of them. Which way would be more practical?

message 1333: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) | 15348 comments Mod
Dare I ask what we're reading next month? I know we're doing the book challenge, are we also still continuing with our regular BOM? I don't think I'd mind doing both. Fadeout was fantastic, and a quick read, so that series shouldn't get in the way too much. No summer reading to slow things down either. lol.

message 1334: by Reggie (last edited Aug 16, 2013 08:44AM) (new)

Reggie Well, Death Claims is a phenomenal read also. It would make a good BOM. I know we don't want make them all BOM. I nominate this one if we can do another DB for BOM.

ETA-- I take back my DB nomination, since this one is harder to find now. Sorry.

I nominate this one. 8)
Another great and interesting read is The Return The Return by Brad Boney . It has some fun band references that I think our music followers might like.

I love it how you always take care that we won't forget to vote for the next month's BOM book, Jordan! Hugs coming your way! :-)

Yeah, let's see what everyone would like to read. I agree that we can have The Brandstetter Challenge and still have the "normal" BOM book to read and discuss.

And how about you, Josh? Have we remembered to ask your opinion about this lately? Anything special you'd like to read for the September BOM?

September will be all about writing for me. I hope to finish at least a pretty good version of BWTPT, so feel free to read away on whatever grabs your fancy. :-) From here on out my schedule gets pretty crazy. There are still three projects I am determined to do before the end of the year.

In that case, I've got two suggestions:
Promises by Marie Sexton
Hell Cop 1 by Astrid Amara, Nicole Kimberling, and Ginn Hale

I haven't read either book yet, which is just wrong, I know! Lol. If I have to pick one to put forward over the other, I'll go with Promises.
