Hey, don't take me too seriously! :) You can have two BOM if you like. Maybe there are some others (who will or will not read CUTYS) who are in for another option. :)

CUTYS sounds good to me! I just read it recently so that'll give me time to get other books read that wouldn't work for the BOM.

Reggie Getting close to the end of the month. Do we have a plan for June?

message 1255: by Reggie (new)

Reggie I have LOVED going through CUTYS!!!! It is still my best read for 2013. <3

I'll suggest some of the summer reading books I've promised myself to read over the summer for next month:

Counterpoint: Dylan's Story by Ruth Sims - historical

The Good Thief by James Buchanan - crime

The Inventor's Companion by Ariel Tachna - historical

Lord of the White Hell book one by Ginn Hale - fantasy

Dark Soul (all volumes) by Aleksandr Voinov - crime

I'll be reading them for sure between June and August and wouldn't mind if others joined me for one or two of them. Though I know we've covered some of these authors before, even recently, I think. One of the reasons why I didn't mention Strange Fortune, which is also on my list.

If we go with something else that looks good, I'll add that to my long list.

Mtsnow13 | 1115 comments Jordan, I support Dark Soul (all volumes) by Aleksandr Voinov. Have all 5, and been getting side-tracked too easy :)

I am suggesting (adding to the mix)Evenfall series, as the 4th book just came out in March. Also, just a heads up, this book is long, and the series is offered for free download on Goodreads.

message 1258: by Mtsnow13 (last edited May 25, 2013 06:00AM) (new)

Mtsnow13 | 1115 comments I suggest Like Coffee and Doughnuts which is an older mystery series that includes Like Pizza and Beer. Just adding to the poll. Thanks!

I've read Like Coffee and Doughnuts. It was one of my first mm reads as I recall. Someone thought to promo it at a fanfic conference I went to. Smart person. It was the only mm book promoed. I think the others were m/f.

It was good. I was gonna say I hadn't gotten to the other, but now that I think back, maybe I did read it?

Evenfall... You had me at the beautiful cover, the two broken men, assassins in the future, and one of them is androgynous. I must read this!

message 1261: by Calathea (last edited May 25, 2013 05:38AM) (new)

Calathea | 6034 comments Shall we go back to our usual procedure to make it more clear which books are our favorites to read?

It was like this: You can either suggest a book or support a book. To make it to the poll a book needs at least two supporters (that rule might only be needed if there are a lot to choose from). A poll will be set up (by me or Johanna) and the book with the most votes will be our next BOM. :)

message 1262: by Calathea (last edited May 25, 2013 05:29AM) (new)

Calathea | 6034 comments I suggest a short one: All My Crimes by Tal Valante.
It's fantasy and a bit dark.

I'm going to throw Brat Farrar by Josephine Tey into the mix as I know some people are reading it. And I'm going to support Dark Souls as that is on my to be read list.

I support AND suggest, as we never know what might get the most votes, true? :)

If I can only do one or the other, I support Dark Souls.

I will suggest/support Dark Soul by Aleks, then. (and you can forget the rest of my list, unless someone else needs a book to suggest.)

I checked on Evenfall, and the first book is a free download on GR, but it sits at a heavy 1,425 something pages, which sounds like a lot to take in in one month! And I thought Special Forces at about 400 pages per book was a lot! lol. Still, can't wait to read it some day.

Nicole Kimberling will have two stories out in June. The next Bellingham mystery (YAY) and the sequel to Ghost Star Night by Nicole Kimberling and Harper will have Publishers Weekly star-rated Viking saga out as well.

Ha! I've been hoarding those books for too long. So that's why they're summer reads. Of course that list also doesn't inude all the YA novels and non-fic I'm planning to read. :-P

I will be reading Lord of the White Hell in June anyway whether its our book or not.

How come when I read a book and take it off the coffee table two more appear to take its place? Oiy! Lol.

Friday sounds good, Calathea.

I would be very interested in reading Nicole Kimberling, if either of the books will be published in time for our discussion. Those are both sequels though and I haven't read the other books of the series' — is that a problem?

I absolutely LOVE Aleksandr's Dark Soul, but since we already discussed his Skybound last November, I think it might be too soon to discuss another one of his books/series already.

No poll yet. Our school is moving, so every single thing must be packed -- you can imagine what that means in art classes... ;) So, the end of the work week and the weekend has been very busy for me with all the graduation parties on top of everything. Let me figure this out and we'll (Calathea and I) set up the poll as soon as we can. :)

Sorry, my mistake. *blushes* I'll set it up as soon as I get to my laptop. Do we have enough candidates?
Thank you for the reminder, Jordan!

message 1294: by Calathea (new)

Calathea | 6034 comments So, Johanna and I had a look at our nominees and found we're in kind of a bind... (I didn't want to say we have a mess. ) ...people going back and forth on their suggestions or supportive votes... *sigh*...

I set up a poll. You can vote from now through June 6.
The votes are anonymous and the result won't be shown until after time is up.
Because it was so hard this time to figure out which titles to include, this poll offers a "write in" answer. So in case we missed a nominee or misunderstood supporters or you forgot to mention a very special book that everybody should read at once you can write it in there.

Calathea wrote: "So, Johanna and I had a look at our nominees"

Yep. And I was feeling like a dictator today. :-) It's the first day of my summer holiday and I survived this school year after all. Did have some minor bumps on the way, but survived nonetheless.

Aaaanyway, if you don't like the poll list, I'll take all the blame. :-) There should be at least one book from everyone who suggested/supported/talked about the June BOM books. At least we tried to include a book from everyone's post/list. ;-)

And if yours isn't in the poll, Calathea had a great idea to include a open option book in the poll! So, enjoy voting everyone!!!

ETA: Oh, and I forgot to say that since Nicole Kimberling's upcoming books are apparently going to be released in the end of June, we thought that maybe it would be better to put her first book of the Sea of Stars series Ghost Star Night in the June poll. The sequel to Ghost Star Night, Heir of Starlight is going to be released June 25th and that's a bit late for our June discussion — but a perfect timing for those who still haven't read the first book and want to read it in June, before the sequel is out! :-)

Reggie Thanks Calathea and Johanna. You ladies are awesome! I felt intimidated looking at the offered listings in the post. You did a great job making sense of it all.

Brat Farrar is listed in Kindle format for as little as $2.99 in US.
It is also available at UK amazon. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Brat-Farrar-e...

Unbelievable, Johanna! We must be on opposite sides of mirror worlds. Our school is moving too. I'm about a half-day from finishing packing up, plus I have a van full of books I want to sort through and reorganize. The exciting part is that the building we're moving into is just slightly closer to my home and sits inside nine acres, mostly a huge (alfalfa?) field, and I can garden again. Our current school sits in an industrial park, but for a couple of years I managed to set up a 4x4 frame and we grew salad greens and chard. Meanwhile, it's a long process to pack and unpack again in two months. A Montessori classroom, at least mine since it includes our level's library, probably has almost as much stuff as an art classroom. ;-)

That is funny, isn't it. :-) And wow, your new school site sounds truly lovely! This is actually the second year in the row when I'm packing, because our school building has been under renovation this school year and now we are about to move back to the renewed building.

I have been running between three different places this year, because our school was exceptionally located in five different buildings (!) around the city and because I teach art to both small children (9-12 years) and bigger ones (13-15 years). So, I actually had three different art classes to pack too. You can imagine my relief when we'll all be literally underneath the same roof next school year!!! :-)
