Hey, we're reading Dr. Cadaver and The Raven for a spooky BOM this month! You can find the discussion thread here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Hi Everyone,
I'd like to announce our December 2022 BOM as chosen by Josh! We will be reading An English Murder.
This was first published in 1951 and was recently republished in 2017. There is no eBook, but there is an eAudiobook available on Audible and Overdrive. I looked this up last night and couldn't find new copies of the paperback, but now they are showing up, so while I'd thought it was out of print again, it looks like it might not be after all! That said, cheaper used copies are available. (It is also available for libraries to purchase through Baker & Taylor.)

Thanks for posting that! My library doesn't do audiobooks through Hoopla any more so I can't check.

*** Seeking January 2023 BOM nominations ***
Hi All — I'll be taking over Jordan's role of coordinating our Book of the Month selections in January 2023, and this is my first post to begin that transition. Thankfully, Jordan is guiding my steps. :)
I'm starting a bit later in the month than I hoped. I've been on jury duty in a criminal case over the past three weeks, which included taking a mandatory 5-day break after we'd begun deliberations due to possible COVID-19 exposure. We were able to complete deliberations and reach a verdict yesterday.
So this is a general call-out for book nominations for our January 2023 read. Please reply by Thursday, November 17. Thanks!

This looks interesting. It's first in what looks like a two-book series.

Great ideas, thank you! I would second Writ in Blood because I bought it on paper as soon as it was possible, and so I would finally read it ;-).
Of course also «Once Upon a Haunted Moor» is great. I don't know anything about the third book.

I'll second Fated so we have 3 to choose from (leaving the Marshall Thorton book for another time unless we have a second). I'll put up the poll tomorrow (Saturday 10/19) and voting will end on 10/26.

Our January 2023 Book of the Month will be Harper Fox's Once Upon a Haunted Moor.
This is the first book of what became a long and engaging series.

Maybe this re-read will inspire me to continue with Book 7 and beyond? :)

Welllll, I went back and checked my reviews of the later books. Privately I noted that book #7 was "just too weird" though there was a nice love story in there with a lot of odd. Three stars. It seems I liked 8 & 9 okay--four stars each. But #10, which was a three-parter? Apparently it was written for her Patreon and in my notes I made a lot of complaints, the biggest one being the guys weren't together much. If I remember correctly, it was what might have happened if they'd never fallen in love. Meh. Though Part 3 apparently ended okay--finally.
However, I am ready to re-read the first four, all of which were great!

In 2018, I re-read Book 1 (first read in 2013), then made it through Book 6. I also read Book 8, which was a Halloween novella, but maybe out of sequence before 2018. I have 1-7 in audiobooks. I "remembered" doing a re-read by listening and stalled out in Book 7... but I only have the first audiobook noted in Goodreads. So who knows? :) I agree with you about the first in the series.

It's time to think about our Josh Quarterly Rereads for 2023. The first will be in February 2023 so we should begin nominations and pick one soon... hopefully before this year ends. :)
Jordan set up a category of Seasons for our 2022 rereads, which made it somewhat easier to narrow down our choices.
So this week's question to all of you is what category would you suggest for 2023? We could continue with seasons or consider any of these or others that you might suggest:
- Seasons/Holidays
- Genre: contemporary, historical, fantasy/paranormal, action/adventure, etc. (could be a different genre for each reread)
- MCs jobs/careers/roles: police, FBI, P.I., amateur sleuth, writers, book or antique shop owners, musicians, actors, ghostbusters (lots of cross-over characters here)
- First in series: re-read the first book in our favorite series
- Any other intriguing ideas?
Please respond here in Candidates for Next Month's Read.

Time flies! And it's past time for us to choose a Josh book for our February Quarterly Reread.
Taking BOM wrangler prerogative, I'm setting up "historical" as our first 2023 category. :) Often we contemplate the past while looking towards the future of a new year.
I've narrowed our selection down to the 5 books available in Shadows Left Behind: An Historical Mysteries Box Set. I'll be setting up a poll later today or this evening.
Here's a link to a description on Josh's website: https://joshlanyon.com/books/shadows-...
The books included in this collection are:
Out of the Blue (1916)
The Dark Farewell (1922)
This Rough Magic (1935)
Slay Ride (1943)
Murder Between the Pages (1948)

Oops, I guess there is such a thing as too many choices. We had 5 books in our February Josh Reread poll and a 5-way tie.
Should I pick a number tile from my hat? Should we start with the earliest dated story (Out of the Blue) or the latest (Murder Between the Pages)? Suggestions, please. :)

I've lately taken to not voting until the very end so that I can be the necessary tie breaker.

Sorry, I saw your post about the poll and in my head I thought that on one hand that all of them would be good, on the other hand that I haven't been able to participate lately, so I couldn't vote and then not reread the book. So in the end I didn't vote.
OK, a roll of the dice (1+4=5) gives us Murder Between the Pages as our February Josh Reread.
Our reread begins in about two weeks on February 1st.
Here's the blurb:
"Felix Day, author of the Constantine Sphinx mysteries, and Leonard Fuller, author of the Inspector Fez mysteries, are bitter rivals and the best of enemies. Both happen to present when a notorious author of roman à clef is shot by an invisible assailant during a signing at historic Marlborough Bookstore.
Even if they weren’t both suspects, it’s the perfect opportunity to match wits and sleuthing skills.
If only the murderer was equally amused."

Well, the good thing is this is one of my lesser known works! I just got a new cover for it AND because it's self-published I can put it on sale for the month. I'll drop it down to $2.99 tomorrow.

:-D Perfect timing. Well, I've got it set up to on sale everywhere tomorrow. And I'm leaving the audio book at half price on Findaway's Author Direct.

I hope all of you are enjoying rereading Murder Between the Pages. It really is a gem and Kale Williams narration is a treat. I'll be doing a slower reread before commenting (in topic) later this week.
Meanwhile, it's past time to gather some nominations for our March 2023 Book of the Month. Any suggestions? Something on your TBR list? A new publication of interest? A past due reread?
Let's aim for nominations by this Saturday, 2/11. :)

Any suggestions for our March BOM?
One of my author newsletters recommended Jenn Burke's Not Dead Yet, the first book in a paranormal detective trilogy. I read it back in 2019 and ordered the two other books today. Does this interest anyone? ... because I'm going to do a re-read after I finish the series I'm reading now. :)

You beat me to it! It showed up on my Kindle app last night — earlier than expected. I agree. Read now and re-read in March? Or read now and discuss in March?

OK, based on two "votes" I'm setting up Josh's 44.1644° North as our March BOM. Yes, I know we can't wait two whole weeks :) to read it (I'm reading now and I noticed that Candice posted about it in another thread)... but we can discuss it together. So take notes, write reviews, save up your impressions, and we'll open up the discussion on March 1st.
Oops — time flies, no joke... it's April and we haven't discussed or selected am April Book of the Month (my bad). Maybe we could pick something this weekend?
I'm leaning towards the KJ Charles book that came out last month — The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen. Other suggestions?

This could be fun! I haven't read KJ since the last time she was a book of the month here.
OR maybe something by Cat Sebastian? I've got several of her books on my kindle, but (the story of my reading life) haven't found the time to dive in yet.

Come Unto These Yellow Sands is the same for me, an all-time favorite often re-read.
I like to read In a Dark Wood along with The Parting Glass.
Likewise, I prefer reading the I Spy novellas as a series In From the Cold: The I Spy Stories.
Which brings me to Mummy Dearest which is due for a reread, and Fair Game that I've read and listened to several times, but just can't get enough. :)
Tough choice!
