The poll will be up until Thursday.

If you’ve not voted yet, the poll closes on Thursday for our November BOM!

Okay, it looks like Seducing the Sorcerer is our winner for our November BOM!

Josh gets to pick our December read, but I thought, since The Long Call keeps coming back, maybe that should be our January read.

If you have thoughts on that, either way, let me know!

Lol, I didn’t know she was either, but a patron requested that my library buy it and I happened to be doing the requests that week. I made sure we bought it as soon as we could.

So Josh is currently thinking up our December read and I will let you know what it is as soon as she lets me know!

In the meantime, scary as it sounds, it’s time for us to be thinking about our January read. We will be taking nominations through next Wednesday.

Also, I wanted to bring up this idea I had for 2022, where we choose four of Josh’s older books to reread and discuss. I thought we could do one for each season to spread them out over the year, and maybe use those as our BOM for four months. What I would do is to come up with five titles for us to vote on for each read to keep it simple. Maybe, if it’s possible, even choosing by what seasons are represented in the books.

Keep in mind that any of Josh’s newly released titles will not be BOM titles, but will be additional to the BOM in its own thread separate from the BOM area. You can choose to read either book that month, or both! We’re doing it this way because Josh will not have release dates ahead of time for planning purposes.

If you have any thoughts on any of this, or want to nominate a January BOM titles, please do so here!

Thank you everyone!

SamSpayedPI | 596 comments I'd like to nominate Under the Whispering Door by T.J. Klune. Although it's still quite pricey, I think most libraries will carry it, since it's a NYT best-seller and all, and January should be enough time to request it (my library's wait time for the ebook is seven weeks).

I really like this idea. I have so many books on my TBR, I admit I'm often not interested in the BOM unless it's already in my list. Since Josh's books are ALWAYS on my list for a re-read, this would be a great "excuse" for me to do so. And we might get more participation in the discussions as well. After all, we all have diverse tastes for many different books, but we ALL came here to talk about Josh Lanyon stories! :-)

Josh is picking our December read, so we shouldn't do this in December. But we could extend the holidays into January if enough folks wanted that.

Also, there is a whole new section here where folks can chat about your favorite Josh titles, so you can always reread something on your own and discuss it there.

Okay, so we need to post a poll for our January read.

So far the only nomination is Under the Whispering Door.

I keep looking for things to nominate, but I'm so far behind, that a lot of folks have already read them.

That being said, one of my coworkers just Staff Picked this one Winter's Orbit, so I'll nominate that one.

Does anyone have other thoughts on what we should read in January?

message 2772: by Karen (last edited Nov 18, 2021 09:39PM) (new)

Karen | 4449 comments Mod
I've read Winter's Orbit recently and loved it. IMO it's a space mystery-suspense with romance. BTW, some reviewers consider it more of a romance. And others were expecting a romance and considered it more sci-fi. :)

That said, Under the Whispering Door is on my TBR short list. It's had such strong reviews that I'm almost afraid to read it. ;)

So I'd be fine with either book.

message 2773: by Antonella (new)

Antonella | 11568 comments I seldom nominate titles because lately I often don't manage to participate. Anyway I nominate the Queer Weird West novel
Writ in Blood by Julie Bozza Writ in Blood, the new book by Julie Bozza.

More about the book, buy links for all formats, and an excerpt here:
https://juliebozza.com/book/writ-in-b...

My indie bookshop managed to get it as a paperback in some 4 days. I saw it is a print-on-demand book. As an aside: POD are an incredible invention.

JOSH'S REREADS 2022

Here are the months we will be rereading a Josh title and a list I've put together (or will put together) for voting. Please note that I will keep updating this message as I add titles to these lists and also note that you can freely suggest titles too! I will not include more than five titles per list, however, to ensure easy voting.

Our themes are the seasons since we are choosing to read four titles spread throughout the year. These will be our BOM books for those months.

WINTER - FEBRUARY (Vote - December)
Winter Kill
The Dickens with Love
Winter
Icecapade
Snowball in Hell

SPRING - MAY (Vote - March)

SUMMER - AUGUST (Vote - June)

AUTUMN - NOVEMBER (Vote - September)

WMD | 251 comments Just reread Lone Star, so it can wait tilnext Winter :) Thanks for setting this up Jordan :)

message 2782: by WMD (new)

WMD | 251 comments I've read Winters Orbit and thought it was good, yet familiar. I recall it as young characters, political murderous intrigue, space opera lite. Intergalactic cultural differences, etc. It's all a little vague in my memory, so perhaps time for that reread!

Writ in Blood, "The Queer Weird Wild West" retelling of Wyatt Earp tale sounds like it is beautifully written, but too dark for me. Not the "usual", by any means, something out of the ordinary.

I've read TJ Klune's House etc. book, not my favorite of his (a tall order, because two of his books are in my top all-time list), but would be interested in other's opinions, and would like to reread with a more lit critical eye. An easy holiday read, I think :)

Winter’s Orbit is our winner for our January BOM!

Also, Josh is working on putting together a special eBook for us for our December read: “The Spectre of Monkton” by Max Pemberton. Because the story is in public domain, She’s been thinking of doing an M/M mash-up with it at some point. It’s a rare story and she’s going to turn it (the original) into an eBook and post it for free so we can read it next month!

Ije the Devourer of Books | 1994 comments A freebie book from Josh sounds great. Something to look forward to 😄

Okay, everyone, we are about to vote(next week) on our February Josh Lanyon Reread - Winter Edition!

Here are the titles I'm considering for the poll:

WINTER - FEBRUARY (Vote - December)
Winter Kill
The Dickens with Love
Winter
Icecapade
Snowball in Hell

I think these are most of the winter titles in her backlist. I did not put some of the newer titles on the list since they were recent reads, such as Slay Ride from 2019. If there are any titles I missed with either a winter theme or just set during the winter, that you want to see included on the poll, please let me know. Just keep in mind that there will be no more than 5 books on the poll.

Let me know your thoughts by next Wednesday and I'll put the poll together on Thursday. Thanks!

btw, I'm super excited to reread some of these super great books!

I would be happy to read any one of these. And, believe it or not Winter would not be a re-read. I seem to always want to have one unread Josh book on my reader, so I can anticipate it and never say I'm finished. But I picked up Strange fortune a while back, so I have TWO unread Lanyon's. We can't have that! LOL

Hi Everyone,

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
This is an update about our currently reading BOMs.

While a new year and a new month are here, please feel free to continue discussing Josh’s latest book, Body at Buccaneer's Bay here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/.... I will leave this up as currently reading for at least another two weeks.

December’s BOM thread for The Spectre of Monkton will get archived at the end of January to give folks more time to discuss the short story. Find the thread here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Our current BOM, for January 2022 is Winter's Orbit, and you can discuss it here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I have archived all of our 2021 BOM discussions (except for the December thread) here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group....

Happy Reading!

Hi Everyone,

I don't think I announced our February BOM! Oops. Anyway, we will be reading/rereading Josh's Winter Kill

Also, We need to start nominating books for our March 2022 read! Nomination time will take place for the next week and I will put out a poll next Thursday.

My nomination will be something a little different: Fire from Heaven. I'm pretty sure we did a group read of the 2nd book in this trilogy many years ago (The Persian Boy) but we never did the first book and I've still not read it myself either.
