I probably shouldn't voice any opinion, given that lately I don't manage to participate, but IMO to be able to say something about a book the whole month is helping more than hindering the conversation.
Maybe it would be possible to use both systems at the same time. Anyway to take the entire day would be a good idea because of the huge time differences. I can say for myself that I never consider participating to events taking place online at a specific time, even if they are in my time zone.
thanks for your feedback, Antonella and Ije!
Doing both is also an option that had sort of crossed my mind the other day. :-) I just want to make sure we're getting the most out of our books and our discussions, so I'm happy with whatever the group wants.
I know my own reading is so sporadic lately, that it's not helping anything but maybe having a goal at the end of the month might help. Who knows.

I think, if anything, this would make me less likely to participate.
Maybe some book-club type questions would help? We used to do that, and it really helped stimulate conversation. Personally, I can never think of much to say about a book, other than "I really liked it" (although, if I didn't like it, I can usually think of one or two reasons why).
Not to pile on more work for you, Jordan. Maybe one of the responsibilities for nominating a title is that the successful nominator has to think up a couple of questions about the book for the group, since the nominator has, most likely, already read it.
Good to know!
I’m always terrible at coming up with questions to books, whether or not Ive read them. But there are websites that list good basic questions when publishers don’t list any, so we could try some of those. That’s a very good idea!

I rather like this idea. Although I don't normally ever nominate books I've read, just ones I want to read. Still, by the end of the month I'd surely be able to come up with a couple of questions. 🤔
We certainly don’t want to drive you away!
And I’m the same, never nominate something I’ve already read, but things I haven’t. But, maybe if I have to come up with questions, it would encourage me to read the books earlier... I think I’ve finally finished chapter two of our current read... I mean, lately reading takes me forever unless it’s an audiobook.

I'm guilty of not having read the August BOM, which I nominated. *hangs head in shame* If I'd known I'd have to come up with a couple of questions, that would have kicked me into action.

Ummm.... August BOM? American Dreamer, I think I nominated that one too? It was on my tbr list for my work blog. I got through chapter eight, but everyone else promised not much would happen and that it was all dialog, so I paused it, got busy, and never finished it.
Our July read I got through chapter two and just never got back to it. I think it was going to take a bit to get into. I think this was the one you nominated, Teal? Mr. Loverman?
Our current read, I’m making more of an effort this weekend and I’m finally into it a bit more so there’s a good chance I’ll finish this one! Which is good because I nominated it. Lol.

American Dreamer was a DNF for me too. Her writing style was not working for me at all.
Good luck with RW&RB. I look forward to your questions about it. ;)
I’m hoping someday I get back to Mr. Loverman.
As I read now I’m trying to come up with questions, so I’ll post them as I come up with them.

When we are taking nominations again, I want to say that Honeytrap, which just came out last month, looks really good!

It's the best thing I've read this year.

Hi everyone,
I just had a brief email chat with Josh who has chosen our December read as Two Gentlemen Sharing!
This is a title she's had for a long time but hasn't read yet. She is hoping it will be a gentle story similar to The Larton Chronicles, which we could all use right about now.
The book is unfortunately not available in digital format, but used copies are available on these three sites:
Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Two-Gentlemen-...
ThriftBooks: https://www.thriftbooks.com/w/two-gen...
AbeBooks: https://www.abebooks.com/servlet/Sear...
Honestly, the prices on Amazon were more reasonable a moment ago. Figures. But Abe seems to have the most and cheapest copies of the three, that I can see.

It is on Amazon UK kindle version for 2.99
Our new thread for our October read, Two Man Station, is up: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Since we usually read a Josh title the month it comes out, would you rather skip our regularly scheduled BOM this month (moving it to January 2021) and read Josh's Requiem for Mr. Busybody this month? Or perhaps do both together and I can set up a second BOM thread? It is less than 100 pages so should be a quick read.
I only ask because we had already set up our threads before we realized this one was going to be released.

The most inexpensive copies of Two Gentlemen Sharing are going for almost $20 (including shipping) in the U.S., so I'm not sure a lot of people are going to be able to participate in that read.
Abe books has Two Gentlemen Sharing for $5 or less, and many copies, that I can see. Those are US copies and prices though.

You can buy it as e-book for $4.68:

I bought a "very good" copy through AbeBooks for $5.24 total including shipping. It's the Alyson Publications edition.

Not in the U.S., I don't think. The page you linked to says "This title is not currently available for purchase." :-(
The good news is, it seems to be available on Open Library. The bad news is, there seems to be some sort of glitch when I try to open it!
Worst comes to worst, think I can read it an hour at a time in the Internet Archive.
Edit: I got it @ $3.24 + $2.00 shipping at AbeBooks
Here is the next poll based on previous polls and nominated titles. We are voting for our January read and if there's a second title with a lot of votes, that could become our February read. After this, however, we will need to start taking new nominations.
And of course, if Josh has anything coming out, we will push back any of our votes from this poll to make room for it the month it comes out.
https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/2...
The poll will be up for one week.
If you have any questions, just let me know.

This is your last chance to vote on our January read! The poll closes tonight! Please vote!

FYI: Our poll for January BOM is now over and The Friend is our clear winner!
There were no second place winners as everything else on the list tied for second place. So next month we will take nominations again for a February read.

Thank you! In fact I had voted for it, so now I should also read it ;-).
In fact I had written «I should also buy it», then I vaguely remembered downloading it for free or for one dollar...

I also found a cheap copy of Two Gentlemen Sharing and I am looking forward to our BOM.
Hi everyone,
It's that time that we need to be taking nominations for our February read! We'll take suggestions through next Wednesday and I'll set up a poll on Thursday.

My nomination is Honeytrap. This is a new-to-me author, but the book looks super awesome and I can't wait to read it!

I second that enthusiastically.

Me four. I already have it, so I'll try to save it until February... I thought it would be my post-Christmas read, but I'll try to wait. ;)

LOL... do we even need to do a poll then?
Also, we can always swap The Friend for this one if folks would want to read it sooner?

Sounds good to me.

Yes! I should have mentioned that. The Friend will now be our February read. :-)

Hello everyone!
Welcome to 2021! If you feel so inclined as to join us, our BOM for January is Honeytrap, and we will be discussing it here in this thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Please also note, I have archived all of our 2019 & 2020 discussion threads, except for December 2020's thread for Two Gentlemen Sharing, to give stragglers like myself time to finish the book and comment as they are able. The archived threads are still accessible and you can still post to them if you'd like.

It's that time again! We are taking nominations for our March BOM read for the next week. I'll put a poll together on Thursday.
My nomination is The House in the Cerulean Sea. This one has kids in it though, so it won't be for everyone, but it's supposed to be really good.

I'll second it; it's amazing (and not nearly as longwinded as some of T.J. Klune's stuff, if that's a concern). It was one of my favorite reads of 2020, if not the favorite.
It's a bit pricy, but hopefully most people got it on sale last September, and it's popular enough it should be available in most libraries.
