because it makes sense ;-).
Just an FYI, we would normally be taking nominations for our December 2018 read this week, but because Josh usually picks our December reads, we are patiently waiting to find out what Josh picks!

I'll have it within a day or two! :-D

Okay! I've got it. Literally. I seem to have ordered this last month, which makes sense given how much I love Golden Age mysteries around the holiday season. :-D
A dozen vintage British crime stories set during the holiday season. Available in Kindle ($5.35 US) and print ($12.64 US).
It's not M/M or LGBTQ (although maybe it will supply some good ideas for a story or two). The stories seem to be less well-known than the usual things that show up in such anthologies.

For those who need buy links, here you go, courtesy of Josh:

Hi everyone!
So I know we just picked our December read, but it's time to nominate books for our January read already!
Remember, one nomination per person, if it gets seconded, it will get added to the poll. The nomination period goes until Wednesday and the poll will hopefully go up on Thursday. :-)

I'm going to nominate Second Chance. One of my coworkers told me about it, and it looks really good!

I'll second this one. (Or can I second two? The German sounds good too. Although the other Lee Thomas book I read was pretty bleak. ;)
Okay, our poll is up: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/1...
the winner will be announced next Thursday.

LOL I accidentally voted for the wrong book!
Edit: Never mind; it lets you change your vote. ;-)

Not that the other book doesn't look interesting, but I did think it would seem strange if even I didn't vote for the book I nominated.

Thank you, Jordan!

Well, the poll is set so no one will see your vote, so even if you did decide to vote for the other book, you could, and no one would know. Unless no one voted for it, then it would be obvious. ;-)

Jordan, is there an announcement anywhere when a BOM read begins? I've missed BOMs in the past, because we choose them so far ahead that when the actual start date rolls I around, I don't remember that it's time. And if/when I did remember, I had to go digging through Josh's group's page to find the right link. An announcement here with a link, or in the General News discussion, would be great. Unless I'm the only one having this problem...?
It does get announced on the home page in the “currently reading” section, if you’re using the website. Otherwise, I don’t think I’ve posted anywhere except to create the thread. But, you bring up a good point, and I’ll make sure to announce it in another thread from now on.

Thank you, Jordan! I almost never visit the home page. It has SO MUCH stuff on it that I feel like I'm digging through the proverbial haystack whenever I try to find a specific thread there. Also, the "currently reading" link links to the book -- not to the discussion! So I'm very grateful that you're willing to make things easier. :D

Can we save Salt Magic, Skin Magic for February, and do The Ghost Had an Early Check-out for January? Please?

That makes a lot of sense. I don't want to delay reading SMSM, so maybe I'll just read it on my own now and join the rest of you for the discussion later. Doing TGHAEC first seems like the obvious choice now that you've pointed it out, Sam.

Oh, yes, I saw that Ghost was coming out later next month, and we should read it in January! I'll make the book swaps on things.
Thanks for reminding me!

Just an FYI: We are currently reading Crimson Snow: Winter Mysteries.
The Ghost Had an Early Check-out will be our January read!!
Salt Magic, Skin Magic will then be our February read.
So, normally we would be nominating for our February read right now, but since we've already chosen it, we'll be nominating for our March read for one week, unless anyone has any objections.

I don't comment much on our Books of the Month thread, so I hesitate to make a suggestion. (But I guess I will anyway.) Since normally we would be choosing our Feb read now, perhaps we should wait a month and then choose for March? This seems too far ahead for me.
That’s what I was thinking too. Let’s do that. Most people are busy with the holidays right now anyway, so we’ll wait until next month.

I have gotten an email the last few months on when the read is about to start. Is this something you set up, Jordan? If not, it must be a setting I have.
We don’t send out an email, but on the first of the month I set up a new discussion thread, and announce it in the general news thread.
Hi all,
We are now taking nominations for our March read! This period will last for one week before I put up the poll.
Remember that we take one nomination per person and it must get seconded to get on the poll for voting.
Nominate away!

Not a romance -- although I believe there's a love interest -- but a historical (Tudor England) mystery/spy novel with 15-year Christopher Marlowe as the MC.

I'm annoyed that the library's ebook copies of Nava's books have run their course (the license we get usually means we can keep the ebook for 2 years or until a certain number of checkouts, or something strange like that, then we have to buy it again) and of course we can't buy new copies, which means I can't recommend his books any more, which I used to do a lot. :-( Hopefully the new ones are good!

I'm going to nominate Kill Game. I know some of us have read this, but maybe there are enough of us who still want to read it.

Seconded.
Here is our poll for March 2019 read! This will be up for one week. https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/1...

Ooohh, tough decision! Good luck!

I'll say. Of course I want to read the one I nominated, but I also want to read the other one! Since I own both, I'll be happy with whichever result we get.

If you have to, close your eyes and point! Just so long as you vote. If you can’t choose, that is. 😋
Steve wrote: "Oooh!!! I read it (listened to it) a few months ago. LOVED it. I think I’ll join in!"
YAY! I'm looking forward to it! I might even borrow it from the library instead of buying it, like I usually do with MM.
