I've got both books and they are/should be good (I haven't read Spectred Isle yet). I would be slightly in favour of Elin Gregory's one, because I prefer not to have a BOM discussion as I'm reading the book.

I'm assuming we want to read Blind Side next month when it releases as our BOM, even if it's late in the month. Does that sound good? Or do we want to select something else to read as well? Perhaps K.J. Charles' latest?

Hi all,

I know we've been chillin' here, waiting patiently for Josh's next release, and I've been so busy my head spun whenever I started to think about reading even more books... however, we should start thinking again about our BOM and what we would like to do!

Traditionally, Josh has been the one to suggest/recommend our December read, as I recall. Josh, if you would like to give us a title, I'm sure everyone will be eager to read it!

Otherwise, I am going to suggest that we reread The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks, seeing as the sequel is due out very soon and I'm thinking it's time for a reread. And if we do this, the sequel would make for a perfect January read.

Or, we can read something else entirely, if you all want to take nominations.

Thoughts? Comments? Questions?

In fact, I think TGWYS was the very first JL book we discussed chapter-by-chapter style here in this group several years ago (2012?). It would be fun to reread and to discuss it again!

Just a reminder for 2018, we are doing a Marlowe challenge! We will be reading all eight books in the Philip Marlowe classic mystery series by Raymond Chandler between January 2018 and December 2018, starting with The Big Sleep.

So between now and January, dust off your books, head to the library, or find your nearest bookstore!

Also, note, since Josh has no thoughts for a December read, we will be rereading The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks, in preparation for the sequel coming out toward the end of December.

I'll start a new thread for it, and you can start commenting whenever you'd like as you read. :-)

So I'm looking at my schedule and I believe The Magician Murders is due out mid-February.

But because that will have its own discussion thread (I'm assuming) it shouldn't really affect the larger reading challenge.

Actually, I think the way we've done challenges in the past is that only the first book in the series is an official BOM, and then people read the rest and discuss whenever time allows them, separate from the BOMs.

And maybe that means we read The Big Sleep as our February BOM, if The Ghost Had an Early Check-Out is our January BOM read.

Since TGHAECO doesn't come out until a little later in January, and since we usually read the first book in a series challenge as an official BOM, I'm recommending that we juggle both books in January. Thoughts?

I can easily set up a topic for Ghost when it releases, and we can start reading and commenting on The Big Sleep right away.

Okay folks, what do you want to read for our BOM next month? It just occurred to me that February is fast approaching! Post your recommendations here! If they're seconded, they'll go into a poll for voting.

Let's say we take recommendations through Sunday, and then I can post the poll either late Sunday night, or early Monday morning through Wednesday.

I'll try to get us more organized with a better timeline in the future. Let me know if you have any thoughts, comments, or questions!

I do want to read Call Me by Your Name, but I'm #62 out of 16 copies on the library waiting list (also #79 on 12 copies and #19 on two copies -- I belong to three libraries. Anyway, at least three months away from getting a copy). So I'm going to nominate Into This River I Drown because I need an impetus to finish it.

Well... I almost hate to admit this, but I have this love-hate thing with TJ Klune's books. Into This River I Drown was a DNF for me. The angst and the wordiness just went on and on and on. Wolfsong affected me the same way. But I loved listening to and reading the first Verania book, The Lightning-Struck Heart, and just bought A Destiny of Dragons. Also, please note that others of us rated Into This River 5-stars. So yes, we Fanyons really do have some differences in our non-Josh preferences. :)

On the topic of books made into movies Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda has been waiting on my tbr list for the longest time. So I propose it for next months read. Something light and fluffy for cold dark winter time :-)
