Here's a link to the group's Book of the Month club bookshelf, if you want to take a closer look to what we've read. I was surprised that we've already discussed 50 books (as BOM): https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...
I think we're open to any suggestions. :-) The books have mainly been M/M but there are classics like The Great Gatsby among our BOMs. For example that one was read around the time Josh's Stranger on the Shore came out.
I think your suggestions are great. Let's read Red Dirt Road in February, but let's keep these in mind for March suggestions.
Or what do you guys think of the ones Trioseven mentioned?

March suggestions? I think I would prefer a certain mermaid book!
;-)
For February I'm out, the author is not really for me and I still try to make a dent into the existing TBR pile...

Interesting you should say that. The first book of this author I read was Elements of Retrofit. I had big issues with this one and wouldn't touch the series if I can help it. I read Red Dirt Heart without realising that it was the same author. I enjoyed it a lot and it didn't have the parts that I disliked about the first one.

I didn't love Elements of Retrofit either, I didn't think the MCs had any chemistry and I didn't really buy their relationship - but I loved Red Dirt Heart. You guys enjoy it and I'll pop in at the end of the month to see what everyone has to say about it :)
Looking forward to a re-read of Red Dirt Heart.
I'm one who adored the The Thomas Elkin Series trilogy. Something about the relationship between those two guys and their approaches to architecture clicked for me.
On the other hand, Blind Faith seemed so long a story (at the time) that I never picked up the next book. Maybe I'll come back to it. Just as I'm wondering if this discussion will inspire me to read the rest of the RDH series...

You can now vote for the Series Challenge 2016!
There are 15 entries, so choose wisely. :-)
The poll is anonymous.
The poll is open until 31 March 2016.
Results are shown after the voting ends.

I'm going to nominate Ellen Kushner's Swordspoint."
Good one. I'm not sure I read the original or translated version, though...hm. Have to go through my book shelf. :)

Seconding that. Very good. If i remember correctly, i discovered Ellen Kushner right after Lynn Flewelling. Both fantastic writers. I wasn't reading mm yet then, so finding these was awesome.
I'm open for all suggestions.
When we'll get the results of our series challenge poll in the end of the month, maybe we can have the first book (of what ever series is selected) as our May BOM?

Very good idea!
Sooooo. Should we decide on having Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner our April BOM? This was the only one suggested and it got several supporters, so that makes our decision quite easy, I think. :-D
I voted! And of course I support the idea of Swordspoint, but welcome other's thoughts too.
I can't believe April is almost here!

I'm in.

I loved the book and would love to hear everyone's thoughts :-)

Peter Grant series by Ben Aaronovitch won with 6 votes, followed by Magpie series and Captive Prince series with 4 votes each.
Who is going to join in the reading (or listening, I defenitely recommend listening) of the series and how much time should we allow for this?
Let's hash that out and I'll set up a topic for the challenge and the challenge on the group homepage after that.
Did I catch it right that you guys would be in favor of having the fiirst book as BOM in May?

I *think* I've read (listened to!) the four first books of this series already, so I'm happy to join in by reading (listening to) the rest of the series with you guys.

I would definitely like to join the challenge and starting next month would be fine. It's 5 books now and the 6th announced for this year, I think?
Could we have time until the end of the year to finish the challenge?
I second what Varecia said. Let's read the first BOM in May and finish the series in December.
I'll be listening, I think.
I'll be listening, I think.
Definitely listen, if you are able. Kobna Holdbrook-Smith is one of my all-time favorite narrators. Also, be aware that the U.S. ebooks are Americanized, nothing too dramatic but noticeable if reading while listening.

FYI, the kindle Ebook for Midnight Riot is .99! And you can get the audio with it for super cheap.

Yep. I think that's how it works.

Yes. I think we'll first set up the Midnight Riot (our May BOM) topic. Aaaaand we might as well set up topics for also the book #2 and #3 in the series at that point? Or something like that...
In any case, we'll remind you guys here — and probably on the General News topic as well.

Yes. I set the dates for the challenge like we discussed here. It will be available for us to take part from May 1st.

Yeah, I just wanted to "join" so I could link up my bookshelf before I forgot. I mean, a month from now, who knows where my brain will be? lol. No worries though. I can be patient.

I hope there will be hand holding for the tech clueless regarding Grant Challenge? Be kind, I'm a newbie.

No worries, Judy. We'll talk you through nice and smooth. ;) It's really quite easy and you don't have to do anything until May when the challenge starts officially. :)
We haven't even really started with this month's BOM discussion when I'm already asking for suggestions for next month's read. :-) Any ideas?
Feel free to suggest a book or second some else's suggestion. If there're more than one book that are seconded I'll set up a poll with those books in it.
Post your suggestions (and supports) for the June BOM here within the next few days.

What would people think about going for a classic? I'm new to your book group so I don't know what you have read but what about one of the Lord Peter Wimsey novels? I've never read Gaudy Night or something by Wilkie Collins his books are free or $.99 on Amazon.
I've never read The Magpie Lord or the Tyack & Frayne series. I can look for other suggestions if you want or if you guys go w Red Dirt Heart that's fine, I highly recommend it.
