I don't know? But in any case, if you guys want to do that we can just continue discussing The Charioteer on The Charioteer BOM topic we already have and still have another, new BOM. Or what do you think?

Calathea | 6034 comments Sure. I thought we hat talked about it somewhere here?

Didn't we just do that? Or was that just me with the new audio book? Hmmm...

How to Repair a Mechanical Heart by JC Lillis is my recommendation based on all of the fanfic talk that's been going on around here. This is one I've really been wanting to read for a long time. The main characters are 18, though, for those who care about age.

I have that one waiting in my Kindle. And I remember someone recommending it here in the group (a long time ago). Thank you for the suggestion, Jordan.

I'm seconding this one. It's been sitting on my kindle since last year.

So, it seems we don't need a poll after all. :-)

Let's read Jordan's suggestion How to Repair a Mechanical Heart by J.C. Lillis as August BOM.

It sounds promising!

Cool to have you joining us. :-)

In a couple of days I'll set up the August BOM discussion topic for us. If we follow our usual schedule, we'll start the actual discussion during the weekend before the last complete week of the month. In this case it will be Saturday, August 22nd. This way everyone will have enough time to read the book before that. Presumably. :-)

Yay! Okay, I'll purchase the book.

I haven't read yet the Mechanical Heart book; I got it on a friend's recommendation, but somehow didn't get to it since... Should be a good one :-)

message 1814: by Carlita (new)

Carlita Costello | 1219 comments Wow. Seems I've had this particular Lillis book in my Kindle since 2012! I am way ahead of the game. Now, to find time to read it.

message 1815: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (valerie_c) | 1519 comments I read it back when it first came out. I remember liking the fandom stuff but there was a lot about religion and Catholic guilt that I didn't care for too much. I might try and do a reread. I have another one of her books in my tbr but I think it's m/f.

message 1816: by Calathea (new)

Calathea | 6034 comments Looks like I bought the book in November 2012 and never read it... I'll try to get to it in August then. :)

I did love it, it was 4.5 stars for me. I'll try to reread and to see if I feel like uprounding.

I'm actually going to recommend this one: Evenfall: Volume 1: Director's Cut. It looks really good, and I know several people in our group have mentioned and recommended it.

message 1822: by Varecia (new)

Varecia | 956 comments Hm, the last BOM book sits still unread on my kindle and reason says I should rather continue the Strachey challenge - btw, could someone set up the next two books? I don't know if I am allowed or even able to do this... :-)
The only book I will definitely read next month is JCP's anthology, Charmed and Dangerous, but would that make a good BOM book?

You are allowed :-) to set up the topics, but I happened to be still awake and the topics are now set up. And thank you also for the reminder, dear Varecia. I should get back to reading those Strachey books...

And I don't see any reason why Charmed and Dangerous: Ten Tales of Gay Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy can't be suggested for our BOM. We've discussed anthologies before (not with quite as many stories as this one has, but still) and it went well as far as I can remember.

I had just discovered that there is such a thing and downloaded it. Considering that my critic of the first version was ''repetitions, lengthy explanations and even lengthier internal dialogues'', I will for sure read the new edition.

Charmed and Dangerous: Ten Tales of Gay Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy is also good, but I would prefer to have as a BoM when I'm rereading it on paper. And it is not yet on amazon.de ;-). In fact I've read only two stories till now due to lack of time.

message 1826: by Johanna (new)

Johanna | 18130 comments Mod
So far we have two suggestions for the next BOM:

Evenfall: Volume 1: Director's Cut
Charmed and Dangerous: Ten Tales of Gay Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy

I'm not sure if either of these got much support, though. In any case I'm going to wait until tomorrow and then set up a poll for these two IF we don't get more suggestions before that.

message 1827: by Lillian (new)

Lillian Francis (lillian_francis) | 333 comments Well you managed to get me to read a book that had been on my Kindle for over two years even though by the time I'd finished it (yesterday) the discussion was more or less over.
Maybe I should suggest a random book that I keep overlooking in an effort to clear my TBR pile?
Although I have just bought Charmed & Dangerous so that would be no hardship to read.

message 1828: by KC (new)

KC | 4897 comments Charmed & Dangerous sounds good.

message 1829: by Idamus (last edited Aug 29, 2015 07:44AM) (new)

Idamus I'd be happy with Charmed & Dangerous, I just need to get a copy ;-)

I might even have time to read/discuss

I'm reading Charmed and Dangerous now, so that would also work for me.

Evenfall sounds interesting, but more like my version of "summer reading" (long, dark, angsty). : )

message 1832: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) | 15348 comments Mod
That's why I went with Evenfall. I always try to suggest books I bought ages ago and haven't read yet. At the very least, I usually already own them, no matter when I bought them :-) that said, I did, of course, buy Charmed. So, I'm good for either book.

message 1833: by Johanna (new)

Johanna | 18130 comments Mod
Oooookey-dokey. It looks like that in the end Charmed and Dangerous: Ten Tales of Gay Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy got much more support, so I'm going to draw a conclusion here and announce it our next BOM (without a poll). I bet many of us are going to read it anyway sooner or later — so why not do it sooner? ;-)

message 1834: by Judy (new)

Judy Stone | 378 comments How do I join BOM. Don't normally have a lot of time, but I'm reading Charmed and Dangerous now. Is there a secret handshake? Dues? Getting completely shitfaced with the group? If so, those last two things are out. Someone wanna give a BOM virgin a helping hand?

message 1835: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) | 15348 comments Mod
Yes, the secret handshake goes like this... Did you see it? No? Right. Cause we're too cool for that stuff! And too friendly. :-)

All you have to do is read the book and join in the discussion when the special topic gets posted with the date of the discussion. It's that easy.

Can't wait to read this one myself!

Woohoo! Cool to have you on board, Judy! :-)

I'll try to remember to set up the new BOM topic tomorrow (1st of September). No secret handshakes needed, but we do appreciate virtual ice cream. And no one says "no" to pie. And Martinis. And... well, you got the picture. :-D

I feel you. I haven't even started this month's read. But my excuse is the fact that in the beginning of the month I was busy with the UK Meet and after that it's been mighty busy here in Lanyonville... :-)

I will get there eventually.

I don't know what the others think, but maybe we should give ourselves a break here? There has been a lot going on... Or we could prolong the anthology and give everybody the chance to catch up and discuss some stories more detailed?

Yes, please! I'd like a chance to catch up. I started reading the first story on the flight to Bristol and never got back to it. I'm a bit intimidated by the length of the whole thing.

message 1847: by Sabine (new)

What Jordan said. The anthology is a very fast read, I thought I would spend weeks on end with it, but actually it took me only 3 days to finish (I have to admit that I did not manage a lot of work during those days :-).
