I'm looking at Steel Sleet
from Josh's list. I could go for it only if for it's being sci-fi with promises of smut and violence

Not sure about this one... it's shortish (87 pages) and part 1 of 3 parts (so far). Not sure if we'd get a successful conclusion or be left hanging for book 2.

Ariel Tachna's The Inventor's Companion, a nice long read
M. L. Rhodes' Falling
Libby Drew's State of Mind (the Good Reads link shows it as a paperback, but DreamSpinner has it in ebook as well)

Three Wrong Turns in the Desert, Neil Plakcy
Lessons in Love, Charlie Cochrane
I'll second Breath by Sloan Parker since I've read it recently :)

I second Three Wrong Turns in the Desert.
lol, I'm bored so I just tallied things up to see where we stand. Nothing's been seconded by more than one or two people, and a lot HAS been seconded:
1. Take My Picture - Giselle Ellis
2. The Inventor's Companion - Ariel Tachna
3. State of Mind - Libby Drew
4. Fugly - K.Z. Snow
5. Breathe - Sloan Parker
6. Three Wrong Turns In The Desert - Neil Plakcy
And there were seven others that did NOT get seconded:
1. The Path To Forever - Etienne
2. Mahu - Neil Plakcy
3. False Colors - Alex Beecroft
4. Steel Sleet - Eric Del Carlo (This might be good when the whole series comes out, so we can get one good long read out of it since the first is so short.)
5. Falling - M.L. Rhodes
6. The Manituw - Lisbeth Jenkins
7. Lessons in Love - Charlie Cochrane
Well, I hope this helps... or something. At least I wasn't bored for a few minutes! lol.

I've read Fugly, and enjoyed it so when I say - maybe this book doesn't fit the parameters of the book of the month it isn't based on not liking it. Fugly is part of a large series (Jackson Spry), is loosely connected to the MC of that series. Fugly's main story can be read without reading the other books of the series, but I think the bigger picture is lost if you haven't read the other books.
I can second Lessons in Love (because I absolutely adore Jonty and Orlando) and I'll also second The Path to Forever.
I don't know where the term came about, whether it was actually on the tv show, or through fans, but every time I read the title "Fugly" I think of Gil Grissom's straw hat on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. It became known as his Fugly Straw Hat in many fanfic stories, and is always good for a laugh cause it did look pretty stupid even if it was useful. And that's totally off topic, I know, but I just had to say that.

lol, yeah, he did sorta look cute. *sigh* I miss him.

I'll second Three Wrong Turns. I guess I can't second more than one right? Or do we have parlimentary procedure for this? :-D
Anyway, I'm for sure going to read Breathe, Three Wrong Turns, Steel Sleet and Lessons in Love, so all of those will work for me.

I've had the Cambridge Fellows books in my "I need to get to these" list for awhile, would love to read and chat about 'Lessons in Love'...

I've read quite a few that have been nominated so far, but I'm game for just about anything.
I know! Well, some of these I'm going to read anyway so hopefully we'll get to discuss even if not in a formal discussion.

Sounds good to me!

That one is my favorite, I think. :-D I remember laughing hard at it. But he does a good job with the mysteries and the cases. They're classic PI novels. But so funny.

Amuse Bouche is free on Wowio.com the last time I checked. I am looking forward to read it.
I'm always in for Donald Strachey :)

We should put it up for nomination. (I'm going to finish this Strachey series then start Amuse Bouche-(after watching the DS movies-am looking forward to Chad Allen's grin...:)
Lori, there's an audiobook of one of DS, it's book 9th, Death Vows. I can't wait to get to it already, but I need to read 6th, 7th and 8th first...

Really? at audible? I'll go get it, Thanks Suhi!
just checked, it's $17.50 at audible and $6.95 at itunes. audible is going to go out of business at this rate. I'm going to UN-hijack this thread now... :)
Okay. So. I put up another poll -- I tried to list the *first* five books that received the required two "seconds" for their nomination. But I could have missed a title or got one wrong -- if I did, we'll put any missed title automatically into June's poll.
Lots and lots of great selections being thrown into the hat. What I'd suggest is that we try to nominate books that we haven't read yet -- just because I think it's more fun if we're all discovering them together.
Of course if you've already read the book, there's no reason you can't join the discussion! But if you've already read a book and you want to try to discuss it, we do have the what are you reading now section.
Or am I overcomplicating this with rules?
I don't know. Anyway, the new poll is up for the May read. We have till next weekend to vote.

Josh, I'd say that makes sense. At least it does for me. Not nominating books you've already read, I mean. ... ok, off to the poll for me! yay!

I think you are :) Does it really make any difference? Especially when the choice of the new books isn't ... very appealing (to me)

Here's the poll. You just click on the selection you'd like to read next month.

The problem is if I don't limit the number of possibilities we end up with seven books with two votes each and a three-way tie. Or more titles with one vote each. I'm trying to give us a number of selections of books that more than one person wants to read.
What was your selection, Suhi? Maybe we could work it into next month's poll?

Oddly enough, the book I'd seconded wasn't on the poll, but I found another one that was that looks really good that I must have missed before, so I'm hoping it gets picked. The others, I'm not so crazy about, but we'll see.
If you've read Zero at the Bone, State of Mind seems to be somewhat similar, so I went with State of Mind. There, I'm declaring my choice, though I probably shouldn't.

Sure, I understand the problem. I didn't mean we should have endless selection of books, not at all... I thought that we should be allowed to suggest not only new books which noone have read but also titles which people would like to discuss because they read and loved (or hated) them.
Maybe we can solve the matter by letting you choose (randomly or otherwise) 3 titles from those with two or more votes?
By "selection" you mean the book I suggested? It was
Actually I'd like to un-suggest it - I've bought, read and dropped the book half-way :D Though I wouldn't mind ranting about it if it gets selected as a month's read XD
I voted for "Breathe" by Sloan Parker since I've read it recently and no other option grabbed my interest.

By the way, Amazon provides free excerpts, in some cases 2 or more chapters long, for almost all their kindle books. If you're not sure of the books up for a vote you should read an excerpt or a sample. It helps.
