I actually haven't taken care of it yet. ;-) But, you are welcome. :-)

Calathea wrote: "I'm still at the very beginning of the Brandstetter challenge, have several books for the Rainbow award to read and can see The Rifter looming... So, count me out for this month."

And yes, we might want to start planning for The Rifter discussion already. I suggest we'll make it a two-month read — five books in December and five in January. Does that sound about right?

Do you guys want to have the reading/discussing schedule for every book or could it be a sort of ongoing discussion throughout the two months?

Calathea | 6034 comments OMG, I'm feeling stressed out only thinking about it. Can we make that a book per week with a week off around Christmas and/or Year's End celebrations? That would take us to mid February... *please*

Antonella | 11568 comments Let's make end of February! Another stressed one here!

That sounds pretty much perfect. We'll do it like that.

No pressure, no stress. :-)

Sorry I had to suggest something. I think originally I was happy not having anything to read. I already set myself a bunch of books to be finished by the end of the month and am writing one too.

But the book caught my attention and that was the end of that.

As far as Rifter, I like your suggestion!
I'll be reading Special Forces: Soldiers in January, so reading Rifter like this, will be a nice break, I think. If I can manage to tear myself away from Dan and Vadim for any amount of time, of course.

Soooooo... which book would you guys like to read and discuss in March? Maybe it could be a stand alone, since we've been discussing about those in the Ebook freebies - act fast topic for the last couple of days?

Suggestions?

message 1408: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) | 15348 comments Mod
I'm going to suggest Nothing Serious by Jay Northcote.

This looks like a stand alone and something a little lighter than what I've been reading lately. I don't know about the rest of you, but light reading, sounds like a good idea to me!

I'm interested in this book that Josh recommended on the "What Else Are You Reading?" thread.

The Prisoner of the Riviera The Prisoner of the Riviera by Janice Law

It's a mystery starring a fictionalized Francis Bacon (the 20th C. artist, not the 16th C. philosopher). It's a $10 ebook, but I liked the sample and bought it. Also, this is the second in the series, but apparently works as a stand-alone.

I've set up a poll for these two books that have been suggested. The poll is open now and closes next Saturday, March 8th. You can find the poll here.

Oh, this is a tough poll. I want to read both!

BTW, The Prisoner of the Riviera is a historical (comical) mystery with a gay MC, not m/m or a romance.

The result of the poll is here.

Jordan wrote: "What are we reading next month? Is it Michael Nava time!"

Well, I gladly second that. The first one of his Henry Rios mystery series The Little Death, maybe?

What do others think?

message 1417: by Antonella (new)

Antonella | 11568 comments Yay for Nava!

Considering that it is 7 books though, I'd say it is a challenge or a three months read. Well, two months if we are in a hurry.

Opinions?

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) | 15348 comments Mod
I say three months. I'd forgotten that was to be a challenge. So, does thAt mean we also have aBOM?

Are you guys really up to another looong challenge already?

Maybe we could have Nava's The Little Death as the April BOM (like we did with Fadeout) and then we'll set the end/dead line for the rest of the Henry Rios Mystery Series Challenge somewhere in the future — end of August, maybe? How would that sound? Meanwhile we can have our normal (LOL) BOM discussions about other books.

I also like the idea of reading and discussing a brand new Josh Lanyon book with you all, so why don't we have Stranger on the Shore as May BOM?

What do you say?

This would work fine with me. I don't want to get stressed over books.

(not taking part in the challenge though as I don't get much reading done at the moment)

So does this mean our Rios Challenge starts this month, technically? I'm copying the Brandstetter Challenge name here, cause I'm not sure what else we'd call it.

Yes, I think so. At least... I hope I got it right. Johanna wrote that we could have The Little Death as April-BOM and then set the end of the challenge somewhere in the future (August?). And everybody was agreeing...

By the way, how many books are there in the Henry Rios Mysteries series?

Yes, that's what I *think* I was suggesting. :-) That, technically, the Rios Challenge has already started. Shall we put the dead line in the end of August or would you guys want to have more time for it (that's 5 months/ 7 books). In the end of September? Maybe more of us would take part in if the reading time would be longer, more reasonable?

We'll set up the new challenge shortly. It's maybe not happening today, but it'll happen... ;-)

I'd like to think August would be alright, but maybe we should make it longer? To the end of September? That could work.

message 1437: by Calathea (new)

Calathea | 6034 comments I'll have a look at changing the challenge. (I think I just have to set up a new one.) I'll set the end of Semptember as dead line, okay? That can be changed, though.

message 1438: by Calathea (last edited Apr 03, 2014 05:06AM) (new)

Calathea | 6034 comments Hm, I can't find another way to make the Brandstetter challenge vanish from the Group Home Page other than deleting it. That's a bit of a radical solution. The home page looks a bit crowded though with both challenges on the top. I'll see if I can find something in the Feedback Group.

ETA: There's no feature to just hide the old challenge. And there are more groups that take issue with simply deleting the old challenges but there's no solution in sight in the near future. I think they said (I hope I understood that right because it wasn't very clear) that only two challenges are displayed on the group home page even if there are more in the group. What shall we do?

message 1439: by Johanna (new)

Johanna | 18130 comments Mod
Thank you for setting up the new challenge, Calathea!

Weeeelll, right now the top of the group's home page definitely looks too crowded. If there is no way to save the old challenge I say we'll ditch it. It's sort of sad, but we can't keep collecting these challenges on the top of the home page... and now when we've started to have the challenges, I suspect we'll want to continue doing them in the future too... ;-)

message 1440: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) | 15348 comments Mod
That's odd that we can't save them somewhere, like our yearly challenges. I'd like to be able to save it, but I guess if we can't, then we can't. And we always have our bookshelves to show for it.

Calathea had the great idea that we can take screenshots of the challenge before we delete and save it that way. So, that's what we are going to do. :-)

So there's no way to just move its location? Say to the bottom of the page?

Karen wrote: "So there's no way to just move its location? Say to the bottom of the page?"

That is a good idea, but no, I don't think so. GR is clumsy that way.

I took a few screenshots of the Brandstetter Challenge, but I won't be deleting the old challenge tonight. Let's see what we can do tomorrow and let's try to live with the current situation (both challenges on the top of our home page) until then.

Anyway, Calathea is so much more skillful with computer stuff and GR than I am. I trust her with these things completely — I would be lost without her. ;-)

Arrrrgh, Matey, On A Lee Shore by Elin Gregory is a historical novel that involves pirates!!!

I'm recommending this one for out BOM next month.

Because pirates!

She's also going to be at the UK Meet for any who might care about that.

You can suggest it for the June BOM as much as you want, dear, but our May BOM book is going to be Josh's Stranger on the Shore. ;-)

And about that... should we just mark our May BOM topic with ***SPOILERS*** tag and start discussing Stranger on the Shore as soon as we'll get our greedy little hands on it, in other words on May 5th? Whaddaya say? :-)
