Oh, I know exactly what you mean. You have to spend time with it when it feels right to do so. It has so many connections to me that over-exposure can lead to a sort of electrical overload.

Yes. If I read it, I'm thinking about it for days afterward. It's never a casual read, no matter how many times I've read it.

Yep. I totally see what you mean — and why reading TC would be challenging in the middle of your own writing. I agree with John that with a book that means so much to oneself personally, one should spend time with it only when it feels right to do so. When there is enough space to enjoy it wholly. When the mood, the state of mind is right — like you said yourself.

I've now spent two months thinking about TC every day. It's almost like a some kind of spell... and this was only the second time I've read it. I'm going to have withdrawal for sure... from both the book and the discussion! :)

I do understand that feeling. Also, I might find it difficult to discuss a beloved book with others in this sort of forum. Actually this group is the only forum I'd likely be comfortable with reading/discussing a book I deeply care about. This is a special place.

It is. I agree.

Results are in, it looks like. To Stupid To Live wins out! Woot! Go Anne!

Honestly, I picked that one and then went and read Two Hearts, Two Spirits between last night and this morning. It was a good book, but I'm glad we didn't pick that one. It just wasn't as good as I'd hoped.

...and now I must go buy a book. So excited... :-D

message 1209: by Calathea (last edited Feb 04, 2013 08:57AM) (new)

Calathea | 6034 comments You can find the topic for discussion of February's BOM here.

Have fun reading and discussing! :)

message 1210: by Calathea (last edited Feb 25, 2013 01:27PM) (new)

Calathea | 6034 comments Hey, have you noticed? February is almost gone and we haven't dicussed which book to read in March.

Okay, so the February topic isn't exactly over-crowded but I'll be happy to go back there if some of you haven't read the book yet and want to comment later.

Nevertheless, any ideas for March? Something that fits spring? (Hopefully spring will be here in March! *prettyplease* )

GR isn't updating my email with our monthly discussion, so I keep forgetting to get over there and chat! GAH.

As far as next month... I have a pile of older stuff I haven't read yet. "older" lol. They've been sitting on my coffee table for at least a year. *sigh*

The Good Thief by James Buchanan
The Inventor's Companion by Ariel Tachna
Counterpoint: Dylan's Story by ruth Sims
Blacker than Black by Rhi Etzweiler

I know several people in our group have read that last one recently, but figured I'd throw it up there anyway. I'm sure others haven't read it yet.

Prey was definitely a good book! I'd second that one.

message 1215: by Susinok (new)

Susinok | 5205 comments Plan B was very good. Prey is a favorite series of mine.

message 1216: by Ilhem (new)

Ilhem | 18 comments I second Plan B and Snap.
Prey is indeed excellent.

ARGH. March is going to be a hectic month, so don't read anything I wanna read!!!

Just kidding. ;-P

message 1218: by Becky (last edited Feb 28, 2013 04:25PM) (new)

Becky (fibrobabe) | 1052 comments I had some fairly serious problems with Plan B, so if that one gets picked, the conversation should be interesting!

(Provided, of course, that I remember to participate when the time comes.)

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) | 15348 comments Mod
Gosh, looks like folks are already busy. Heck, I know I am! Maybe we should skip this month?

Or someone just post a poll with the few that have been seconded?

message 1220: by Calathea (new)

Calathea | 6034 comments I thought I'll give it the rest of the weekend and set up the poll on monday.

cool beans. lol. beans aren't cool. I know.

message 1222: by Calathea (new)

Calathea | 6034 comments Had a look at what's been suggested and seconded.

(and I try to strech the rules that were set up sometime in past [you can either suggest or second one book and only one book])

It looks like we've only got seconds for Plan B and Snap. Prey gathered some interest and approval, not only this months but on several occasions before.

message 1223: by Calathea (new)

Calathea | 6034 comments Na wrote: "I second you, Jordan, in "Maybe we should skip this month?"."

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) | 15348 comments Mod
Gosh, the question becomes, would I reread the book I'd want to read this month, or go by what I remember? lol. Not sure there will be time to reread, but who knows.

Just doesn't seem like many people are piping up to suggest things. Or we can do the poll and play it by ear, and just see what happens.

message 1225: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) | 15348 comments Mod
I kind of really want to have a discussion about Prey. That's such an interesting book/series. Definitely one that can't be put down. :-)

Even if I don't take part, I'd enjoy the discussion. That's a series I'm intrigued by.

message 1228: by Calathea (new)

Calathea | 6034 comments I set up a poll here and took liberty to include the option. "(Maybe) we should skip this month." (I think we'll be back with fresh energy in April, once spring is here. ;)

The poll runs till March 6. It's anonymous and results are hidden until the poll is finished.

I'd hope for more of us participating in the discussion of Prey but it definitely will be interesting to here what everybody thinks of this book. :)

message 1230: by Sara (new)

Sara (hambel) | 1439 comments That was a difficult decision. I couldn't go with skipping though, because even if I don't join in the discussion I usually read the book.

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) | 15348 comments Mod
Yeah, I would like a lot of us to talk about Prey too. It's such an interesting series.

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) | 15348 comments Mod
Maybe if not very many people vote we can save what we voted for until next month? That might be another option. Unless the majority is to wait until April.

message 1233: by Calathea (new)

Calathea | 6034 comments In case it slipped your notice (because I saw no other comments here) Prey won this month with 8 votes (to 7 for skipping this month).
I'll set up a topic for those of you who want to read and discuss it. :)

message 1235: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) | 15348 comments Mod
Do the people who voted to wait want to read Prey? And do the people who voted to read Prey mind waiting if we all want a really good discussion? I don't mind waiting. Either way I'm going to be busy, but I'd love to discuss it with ya'll. lol

message 1236: by Susinok (new)

Susinok | 5205 comments I'm good either way. I read it a while back and don't plan to re-read, but I'll skim it to make comments.

message 1237: by Tamela (new)

Tamela (tameladb) | 16 comments I picked up books 5 and 6 so I plan to reread the first 4 books again. Waiting is not a problem.

message 1238: by Darkm (new)

Darkm | 252 comments I want to try Prey too but I have to pass.
I have really too many things to study right now :/

message 1239: by Allison (new)

Allison (aah92) | 41 comments I voted for Prey but I'm willing to wait if that works best for most people. It's not like I don't have a lot of other things to read!

message 1240: by Carlita (new)

Carlita Costello | 1219 comments I don't mind waiting to read Prey. This month is turning out to be a bear. Most likely could not participate this month.

message 1241: by Calathea (new)

Calathea | 6034 comments Okay, I saw several suggestions here and on the March 2013 topic to skip March and read Prey in April and comments that said that they wouldn't mind to wait another month.

As Johanna left for warmer (and sunnier) regions , I can't consult her on the topic and I'm left alone with BOM-related topics... so in dictator-like style I say we take a break this month and postpone Prey to April, when hopefully more people can take part in the discussion.

Discussion of Prey will then start at April, 20.

I hope that's okay with you.

message 1242: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) | 15348 comments Mod

That's fine with me! Between taxes and deadlines and proposals for next year...things are definitely crazier than usual at Chez Lanyon.

Sounds like a plan. And I totally like it when you go all dictator on us... *wide grin* Sometimes it seems to be the best (and only) thing to do to get us organized... ;)

Thank you for organizing the BOM read again, Calathea!

message 1245: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (carolinedavies) | 568 comments It does look an interesting read judging by the Kindle sample so come payday at the end of next week I'll buy the rest. I may be a little preoccupied by the end of April with book launch stuff but I'll try to join in with the discussions.

message 1246: by Calathea (last edited Apr 20, 2013 01:14PM) (new)

Calathea | 6034 comments Regarding next month's read:

Some of us are going to have a chapter by chapter discussion of Come Unto These Yellow Sands in May. You're all welcome to join in! The more the merrier.

On the other hand if there are some people who want to read something else as book of the month you can do that too and we'll set up a topic for that.
So, any suggestions for BOM #2 or are you going to join our CUTYS-dicussion?

message 1247: by KC (new)

KC | 4897 comments I'm gonna join the CUTYS discussion for sure :-)
BOM #2 - Kestrel's Chance?

message 1248: by Calathea (last edited Apr 20, 2013 01:36PM) (new)

Calathea | 6034 comments I could swear there was an "or" in my question, not an "and".
I'm staying with CUTYS. Anything more (regarding group reads) most likely won't happen for me next month.

Good choice, though!
