I just had a look at the bookshelves and found that we already have a BOM shelf. *lol* You even added the first two books.

I could add the remaining books later if you'd like. :)

I did? Good for me! I must have had a moment of mental clarity. :-D

Yes, please feel free to go ahead and add the other books -- with my thanks.

Emanuela ~plastic duck~ (manutwo) | 1768 comments Anne, I've read the first three. The main couple is het, but there are lgbt secondary characters. It's witty - too much sometimes :)

LMAO, oh my, this happens to me a lot. I find out I've done something incredibly far-sighted and thoughtful and I can't believe it was me. I must have some good twin somewhere ;-)

Done.
Back to reading. :))

While adding the books I missed May 2012. Seems, my memory leaves much to be desired, but: did we read something in May?

message 1007: by Antonella (new)

Antonella | 11568 comments Thank you for adding the books. I found out that I had not rated ''The Larton Chronicles''! Holy Aga!

In May we had a pause, as far as I remember.

message 1008: by Reggie (new)

Reggie Ok I found a Steampunk book that has a male main character and a mystery-
My Clockwork Muse-
New York City, 1847: A madman is on the loose. Someone is committing murders in the manner of Edgar Allan Poe's tales of terror. The police are stymied. When a corpse is found interred in a masonry wall in a subterranean chamber, they call on Poe himself to help solve the crime.

I found it originally here: http://astore.amazon.com/steampunkboo...

It is available at both Amazon USA and Amazon UK for a reasonable price.

It is tongue-in-cheek writing, so Poe purists BEWARE....

Well, my vote is for Mongrel, or my second to that vote, I suppose.

Yeah, from what I know Soulless doesn't nearly count as M/M, so we should take that into consideration.

Can't wait to see what the other nominations are!

message 1010: by Antonella (new)

Go to the top of the page and look in the right-hand corner- Under Josh's Avatar- click on "bookshelf"
Voila!

Susinok | 5205 comments L.A. Witt wrote a steampunk m/m, Noble Metals.

I read (and loved) Mongrel, but I'd read it again. I loved it.

I'm not so hot on discussing chapter by chapter. I sometimes feel a book can have all the magic talked right out of it. But that's just my own weirdness.

I've never read L.A. Witt and the blurb sounds interesting enough. Could Mongrel and Noble Metals be two of the four or five books that Josh is going to put up for the poll?

Lord of the White Hell - Book One

This one is also on the steampunk list. I've got it, but again, haven't read it yet. It looks good. So I'd recommend it for this month.

Lord of the White Hell - Book Two And here's book two. I believe there are only two books for this series.

I have one of those on my Kindle. I had no idea there was anything remotely gay -- although Carriger did do a little exclusive gay romance through Smashwords. It was cute-ish.

I read book 1 of the series halfway. Somehow I didn't get back to reading after putting it aside for a while. :( There's gay vampire friend of the heroine in there. Otherwise I didn't find anything m/m.

This one sounds interesting. She always has those interesting sounding blurbs. Never finished one of her books though... But maybe with some peer presure? ;)

message 1021: by Karan (new)

Karan | 265 comments I enjoyed Lord of the White Hell a lot, both books actually, and The Inventor's Companion, which is also on the list. I'd recommend both. Loved Wicked Gentlemen, too. Funny, I never thought of myself as a big fan, yet almost every steampunk book I've read I've enjoyed. Maybe I'm a bigger fan than I knew. ;-) I haven't read Mongrel, but I think that's next in line.

message 1022: by Calathea (new)

Calathea | 6034 comments I went through the steampunk shelf of the M/M Romance group and picked out some that sounded interesting (and haven't been mentioned yet) for a little more choice. ;)

A Certain Pressure in the Pipes
Wings of Equity
Angel 1089
The Professor's Assistant
The Inventor's Companion (just saw that Karan mentioned it...)
Island of Icarus
Boots for the Gentleman
Mars on the Rise

Maybe you guys want to take a look?
One popular theme seems to be 'The Inventor' as a profession for the MC. Strangely a lot of the steampunk stories seem to not have high ratings.

message 1023: by Cleon Lee (new)

Cleon Lee | 2235 comments I also love Inventor's Companion, but maybe for some people it's too sugary sweet. It's one of my comfort read though.

I noticed that Josh put up a poll with Mongrel, Wings of Equity, and Soulless, and I voted. Results revealed tomorrow, August 4th?

Calathea wrote: "Strangely a lot of the steampunk stories seem to not have high ratings."

That may be because many of them are not so great. I don't have a lot of patience with the ones that are very self-consciously cute/clever. I loved Mongrel, very much enjoyed The Inventor's Companion, and just started Wings of Equity, which I expect to enjoy based my experience with Sean Kennedy's other books.

A Certain Pressure in the Pipes is very short and IMO more than a bit silly. At some point, Megan Derr's Dire Straits was suggested, then recalled as it is also a short read. I'd call it an alt. reality paranormal Western, not steampunk. I read an excerpt of Soulless and it was pushing the cute boundaries to my taste, a bit like Elizabeth Peters's Amelia Peabody series (which I've loved) on steroids. (I'll probably read it sometime because it has weres and vampires and seemed well-written.)

I'm not sure. I noticed it I think yesterday when I was looking at what's on the home page. I suspect that Josh is keeping busy (resting and/or writing we hope) and didn't announce it?

If you look above the ad on your right, you'll see Group Home, Events, etc. Last one on the list is Polls. Just click that and it will take you there.

I'm coming late to the conversation, and I haven't gone back and looked at all the messages I've missed. But everybody knows that Soulless isn't m/m, right? It's m/f, or more accurately, w(erewolf)/f.

In book the Fourth M/M themes are explored also in book the fifth. And All the books have Lord Akeldama

message 1035: by Becky (new)

Becky (fibrobabe) | 1052 comments That's right, I forgot about Lord Akeldama. There's also a lesbian who dresses as a man. (The inventor-- I don't remember her name at the moment. But I don't think she shows up until book 2.) I haven't read book 5 yet. It's an entertaining series, especially book 1. I don't object to a group read of Soulless at all. (Although I'm going to have to dig my copy out of a box in the closet.) I'm just a little surprised, because the LGBTQ characters are secondary, particularly in the first book, and I don't think we've done a book that focuses on a m/f couple so far.

oooohhh, Mongrel, perfect read! Can't wait!

As for Angel 1089, which was also on that list, I LOVED it. Would highly recommend it, and I think it's book one of a new series, but I could be wrong.

Oh yeah, and I also have The Inventor's Companion too. I should get to that someday. lol. Too many books, not enough time. Oiy.

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) | 15348 comments Mod
So September is coming up rather quickly. I know. I didn't want to have to admit that sad fact to myself. I've been enjoying this warm weather and don't want fall to come. *sigh* Anyway, I'm thinking it's time to start thinking about what we're going to read next month.

I have two books by authors I haven't read yet, so I'm going to throw up both suggestions:
The Good Thief by James Buchanan

Blacker than Black by Rhi Etzweiler

If there's a more popular choice, I'll keep that one up and take down the other, since we can only have one suggestion.

message 1045: by Becky (new)

Becky (fibrobabe) | 1052 comments Blacker Than Black was very good, and I've already read that one, which means I might actually manage to participate if we do that one. (I always have the best of intentions, but some how I never remember to read the book on time.) So I'll second that one.

message 1046: by Johanna (new)

Johanna | 18130 comments Mod
Soooo... what are we going to read in September? I've intended to read Blacker than Black, so Jordan's suggestion sounds good to me.

Skybound would be a wonderful choice. Or maybe something from Lucius Parhelion? I think that Dry Bones is only 51 pages long.
