Yvonne (ysareader) Yvonne, I had the opposite experience. I kept waiting for the 'romance' portion of the story to really get going.

I don't disagree. I should rephrase this to say I thought the mystery in Cut & Run was weak & they (Ty & Zane) spent endless amounts of time bickering/fighting so the romance was slow to start as well.

It's been a while since I read this, but I think there were frequent changing POV, in some cases per line, which is probably why they kept doing those dialogue tags.

If nothing else, if Cut & Run is chosen, I think you'd get some lively discussions as the opinions vary widely on this book. I just think a lot of people have already read it (or given up on reading it) so my vote would go for a different book for next month.

If C&R gets picked I'll just re-post my rant from the other thread, I won't try and re-read the book though

I bought C&R, and then got rid of it, so I wouldn't "reread" it. If I still had my copy I might be persuaded to give it a third chance, but since I don't... (Yup, I tried it a second time just before I got rid of it, but I still couldn't get into it. *sigh* oh well...)

I agree with Yvonne though, that it seems like enough people have read it already that we should pick something else. That's what I would vote for.

I could definitely second Candy G. That does look interesting. ... has me wondering why he gave up being a lawyer... hmmmm...

Okay...let me see if I've got the noms straight so far:

Kiernan Kelly...FOR LOVE OF WAR -- did we get a second on that?
Dash and Dingo by Kennedy and Ford
Self-Preservation by Ethan Day
Cut and Run by Urban and Roux

What am I missing here? Were there other nominations?

Yes, it was. I just don't remember who seconded it.

Josh (joshlanyon) | 23709 comments Mod
That's fine with me. We've got four choices now, so I'l do a poll and we'll go from there.

Blaine (blainedarden) Josh wrote: "What am I missing here? Were there other nominations? "

I suggested 'Something about Trevor' by Drew Hunt in the beginning of the thread (I think it's actually the first book suggested), to which you said: And the cricket thing sounds fun to me and Drew Hunt has been discussed recently, so we can put that one into next month's poll, sure!
I took that to mean that you seconded it ...
So I'm rather hoping you can still add that to the poll

Yes. I do recall. So there's our five titles. And even if a title doesn't get voted for the first time around, it doesn't meant that it can't be renommed.

Candy G -G Zampa was suggested and I'd seconded it, so that needs to be added to the list.

Doesn't look like anyone seconded my suggestions (Mahu and False Colors), but that's cool. I'm dying to read them, so I guess I can read them now! lol.

Well, again, just because a story doesn't make it this time around doesn't mean it wouldn't later on. After Finding Zach, I have a feeling some of us are looking for something a little lighter. Month after next, maybe not the case.

Thanks Josh!

I'm thinking you didn't put the poll up yet, since I don't see it either. Can't wait!

If that doesn't work, look at the right hand side of the screen, under the heading Q&A With Josh Lanyon there's a list of options, the last one being 'polls'.

Sylvia | 350 comments Hi Suhi & Anna,

I can see it's there, did you check the link in the upper right corner of this page?

I made my choice already (Self preservation) and for me it's invisible now, except for the option to change my vote. I like your choice also Anna, maybe for next month if it doesn't win the poll?

Sylvia

Alyosha | 35 comments Thank you for the link Merith.

I voted for Candy G, only one of them I hadn't already read.

message 70: by Josh (new)

Josh (joshlanyon) | 23709 comments Mod
This might be the problem with so many choices. The titles are almost in an exact dead heat with 2 at 3 votes and the others tied at 2 votes. So we need more people to vote!

message 71: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) | 15348 comments Mod
Thanks for the link Merith. I'm apparently blind. lol. And don't worry Josh, I just voted! Hopefully I helped the stats a little? With my luck, I probably just made them worse!

message 72: by Yvonne (new)

Yvonne (ysareader) It is a lot of choices. There are about 3 I'd like to read so I could vote for any of them. With the poll being blind, it's hard to tell which one would benefit from my vote the most. I guess I'll just pick one at random.

message 73: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) | 15348 comments Mod
There was one I will definitely read, a second choice I'm a little iffy on. So, if my first choice isn't chosen I've got another I could read.

Yvonne, my advice? Close your eyes and point. lol. Good luck. And hey, as Josh said, if we don't read one that you would have chosen this month, there's always next month, or the month after that... lol.

message 74: by [deleted user] (new)

Merith & Sylvia, thank you! Voted :)

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) | 15348 comments Mod
lol, reading my last post, half of it makes no sense... or very little. Oiy. I must have been getting hungry for lunch or something when I wrote that.

What I meant to say was that there were two choices I could read. One I would definitely go for and the second is more of a maybe, but if it gets picked, sure, I'll give it a shot. I mean, what good is it if you don't take chances every now and then?

message 76: by Jan (new)

Jan | 100 comments Something About Trevor is available as a freebie on http://www.wowio.com/users/product.as...
There aer loads of other freebies there too.

message 77: by Lori K (new)

Lori K Just in case you didn't already get this...JMS Books is offering free glbt books at this link:

http://www.wowio.com/sponsorpage.asp?...

Over 52 free books here. Even some Anthony Bidulka mysteries but most are m/m romance. I know a couple of you mentioned the cost for the book of the month-maybe this will make it easier.

I didn't look to see if there was a time constraint. (Even tho they seem to have some pdf protection, they still convert in Calibre for kindles, ipads etc.)

message 78: by Cleon Lee (new)

Cleon Lee | 2235 comments I just downloaded a bunch of fics there too. Most are JM Snyder & Drew Hunt short stories. I also managed to get Clare London's Threadbare and Precious Posession. Wohoo!

I notice that the price there are lower than all Romance Ebooks(where I usually get my fics). I always use Paypal at ARE (publishers who don't accept Paypal really miss a lot of business). But I am kind of leery in using my credit cards in new store. Anyone purchased from Wowio, com before?

message 79: by Sylvia (new)

Sylvia | 350 comments Hi Cleon, I have no experience with Wowio other than downloading freebooks ;) Did you check Fictionwise? They're also cheaper than ARE, at least some books I saw and they do accept Paypal!

message 80: by Cleon Lee (new)

Cleon Lee | 2235 comments Hi, Sylvia! Thanks for your info.

Actually Fictionwise price is usually the same, or even more expensive than ARe ( Man oh Man by Josh is 5.99 at ARe and & 6.99 at FW normal price.) They no longer accept new club member for discount benefit. At least at ARe you get 1 free book for every purchase of 10 books.

However, right now I am on buying frenzy at Fictionwise because of the 35% discount. The coupon code is 040111 and valid until 4/3. Not valid for every book, but most books are.

message 81: by Yvonne (new)

Yvonne (ysareader) Just curious but what is ARE? Also, does fictionwise sell DRM restricted books or can they be converted to other formats?

message 82: by Lori K (new)

Lori K ARE is All Romance Ebooks-a well respected online store-fine to buy from. FW sells mostly multi-format books (you can choose the format) but for the most part they are not DRM restricted and you can convert (but you are better off just downloading the format you need).

JMS books (the free ones above) are a very lightly protected PDF that you can convert but your name remains attached.

:)

message 83: by Yvonne (new)

Yvonne (ysareader) Thank you Lori for the info and for the website for the free PDF books. I've wanted to read an Anthony Bidulka book (Amuse Bouche)for a while, but it wasn't available in any kind of ebook form before. This is a nice way to test to see if I like these books.

message 84: by Lori K (new)

Lori K They will be a first for me too. Be sure to review it when you read it!

message 85: by [deleted user] (new)

Jan & Lori K, thanks!

message 86: by Charming (new)

Charming (charming_euphemism) The thing about Fictionwise is that there is nearly always a coupon to save 30% or more. Those of you on the M/M group: check Jason's Discounts and Sales threads before buying anything there.

Always! My bookshelf at FW is embarrassingly HUGE! Also, keep in mind that AmberQuill and Samhain discount their new releases each week. FW never has new releases.

samhain usually has monthly freebies on Kindle and Nook too -- and I think they try to make one of those m/m.

So did I understand correctly that Fictionwise is having a sale? I never seem to get my notices anymore.

Speaking of book sales, time to nominate candidates for our May read, by the way.

message 91: by Cleon Lee (new)

Cleon Lee | 2235 comments Yup, FW is having 35% sale (except for Samhain titles, I believe) until 4/3. I'm devouring Vigil from ZAM right now because of it. 35% saves a lot!

Since I just bought Take My Picture, I want to nominate it for May read. lol.

Who's it by?

And do we have a second for the nomination?

Did we say we were going to go with the first three books that got nominated and seconded? We're limiting the number of noms this time, right? So we don't have the vote split so many ways?

message 93: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) | 15348 comments Mod
I think we said any book that got nominated and seconded. The "and" being the important part. At least, that's what we did last time. My memory is swiss cheese sometimes, and maybe we did mention limiting it and I forgot. I certainly have nothing against it.

Should we have a limit to how many books one person can nominate? That might be a good idea. I don't know.

Anyway,I'm gonna nominate three titles because I bought them recently and they all look really good:

The Path To Forever by Etienne (The sequel just came out.)
Mahu by Neil Plakcy (the first in a series)
False Colors by Alex Beecroft

Eve (evieeve) | 701 comments Take My Picture - that's one popular book that I don't get and I have some pretty unpleasant things to say about it (some loved it to death, so it must be a "Marmite" read, lol)

I would second it, if only just being naughtily curious to see what readers in this group would think of it.

Take My Picture... I just looked it up on Amazon and the only thing that came up as m/m under that title was by Giselle Ellis. So, I'm assuming that's the book we're talking about.

Personally, reading the summary didn't spark any interest for me.
