Poppy Z. Brite is no longer Poppy Z. Brite but rather a trans (gay) man named Billy Martin. Hasn't written anything in quite a while, I gather, and split up with chef Chris DeBarr.

I miss Rickey and G-Man too. I adore that series!

I didn't know this.

Billy Martin is not with Chris anymore and he is talking about his life and other matters in his blog: http://docbrite.livejournal.com/

Well, this is such an interesting insight because I feel sadness at the idea that Billy and Chris are not together and yet...why? I never knew either of them except for occasional blog readings. And yet I felt genuine shock reading this. I actually heard myself thinking but they seemed like such a good couple.

Something I could not possibly know from the occasional blogs.

Do we have a second for Quarter Boys?

Strangely enough I feel the same, and I am wondering maybe I think the story of G-man and Rickey was their story and now it has ended..

There is so much pain in those blog entries, it was hard to read.

I do that dear man! I think, for myself, I tend to forget that they are real life people who carry the same trials and joys as I do--I place online couple in a kind of fantasy happy couple place--where surely they never have any problems. Then I find myself shocked when I read that they do indeed have problems. It is a funny disconnect I have sometimes with online people.

Yes. I had the same thought.

Reading it reinforced my feeling that it's too easy to share too much online. I feel great sympathy for Billy, but I also found out way more than I wanted to know.

And for a long time Poppy's inability to write frightened me. I don't know that Billy is a writer. That may be gone with the old life.

It does happen.

Or is only what you say here ''binding''? ;-)

Oh! No, you're right. Scrap Metal would be a good one too.

I suspect it is because we tend to want the world populated with happy couples in love... And they had solid ties, if not Billy wouldn't be so sad now.

Yes. Somehow it was too much. I wonder especially how does Chris feel about this.

Musing aloud in public how you feel about someone -- be it Chris or Grey -- might even alter the natural outcome?

Woot! Can't wait to vote on those three.

And yeah, I agree that online people don't "seem" to have problems even when they do. It's too easy to forget they have whole lives they're living the same as we do.

It'll be interesting to see how online lives change and affect (effect? I always get those mixed up!) people the more we rely on the internet and don't interact as much in person.

Reggie Don't know where to ask this-- so, can we have a temporary thread to discuss BBC Season 2 Sherlock? It would be fun to talk about it with fellow fans. ;D

message 877: by Josh (new)

Ha! That's a fun idea.

I could set up a What We're Watching thread? So if we move on from Sherlock we can still discuss other viewing pleasures?

ETA of course I'll wait till everyone's seen the whole season 2.

So, next month is coming up asap. What are we reading?

Here's my suggestions:

Ransom (Royal Navy, #1) by Lee Rowan

War Torn by J.M. Snyder

Can't decide so I'm putting two up.

So I guess we're not reading a book this month? I know I've got plenty to get through on my own, but I wouldn't mind a book group read to add to the mix... after I finish The Rifter of course. Nothing shall get between me and that series. Nothing.

Let's skip it this month and then resume next?

I've got so much to catch up on right now that I'm literally falling unconscious into bed at night.

Well, okay, not LITERALLY.

But close.

I have to agree with too much to catch up on myself...a month off would work for me :)

message 886: by Antonella (new)

Antonella | 11568 comments For me too.

I still feel guilty I didn't find the time to write something about Scrap Metal even after coming back from Italy. This even though I loved the book...

Anne | 6816 comments Okay with me too, not that I won't read anything in May even so :) I am working on Magic Mansion now, maybe that could be a candidate for June? JCP is a favorite with many I believe. Or is the idea to suggest things we otherwise would not have read? Which works fine too.

Yes! An evil conspiracy - I love them.

message 893: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) | 15348 comments Mod
Yeah, falling unconscious into bed at night sounds rather familiar to me too. ... and waking up groggy. It sucks. Big time. So yeah, let's skip this month.

I've still got Zero Hour of JCP's to read, so I would nominate that, if we're going the JCP route. Only considering I've already read Magic Mansion. Otherwise, I'll nicely take a month off, read whatever I want, maybe ZH, anyway, and join in the convo for MM when the time comes.

Whatever... going back to Basawar. lol. Oh wait, I'm at work, stuck at my desk ordering books. Dang. Can my lunch break come any faster?

Yes. Have I said often enough how much I want Rifter in print? I want maps. I want family tree charts. I want glyphs. I want -- oh my! I want the cliffsnotes too. :-D

We are getting it, just be patient!

Me too, I love to have the book in my hands and to go and look for maps and charts.

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) | 15348 comments Mod
I was just thinking about that the other day Josh! She needs a guide book to Basawar. I would so totally buy it. Yep, maps, family trees, the dictionary, list of characters in general, everything. That would be fantastic.

I admit, the scary part is the end. I'm about to start book 9, and I know Basawar Withdrawal Syndrome is going to hit in the next few days. I can only hope it doesn't hit hard and that perhaps I finish the 10th book Tuesday night so I'm not stuck with BWS on my long train ride Wednesday morning. I'd be completely lost with nothing to do to save myself. I hate it when that happens at the end of really good books!
