What the heck does that say???

Is that Shades of Gray? Hey, that sounds good to me. I'm all for FBI. It is FBI, right?

And someone could explain to me why I liked Zero to the Bone and have never been able to finish Shades of Gray.

Cleon Lee | 2235 comments Zero was one of the story I read early when I discover M/M, I still have fond memory of it. But I like Shades of Grey better.

I was actually being serious. I have some suspicions ideas, but nothing concrete I can point to and say, "this!"

Mtsnow13 | 1115 comments I myself enjoyed Zero To the Bone better then Shades of Gray, also :) And I agree as to wondering when or if either author will write another. The Zero story had some free shorts on her website, though.

By the way, Josh - I just finished The Charioteer and that one did make me cry... To me the end was meloncholy, and made me wonder about lost innocence. It was at my local library, and you got me curious about it...a very good book, and gave me good insight into World War II and how personal choices determine our future, or possible future. The choices we make... wow. Mary Renault was able to pull me into the story. Took me a little bit to get used to the writing style of that time, though. But very worth the read!

K.Z. Snow (kzsnow) | 1606 comments The most moving novel with gay characters I've ever read was The Brothers Bishop by Bart Yates. It has a theme and some plot elements likely to push a lot of people's squirm buttons . . . although that they're handled with extraordinary depth and sensitivity.

GR didn't have enough stars for me to rate this book properly. So to compensate, I sent the author a fangirl letter and (judging by his response) likely freaked him out. But, damn, that book is powerful. Yet so subtly crafted, right down to its dry humor.

Kaje Harper I love both Grey and Zero, but the similarities are not deep in my opinion. They would be good to do together.

There is something about carpets. I think it's the smell of feet that draws them. LOL. I don't have carpets in my house so thankfully that has never been a problem for me. :P

message 616: by Blaine (last edited Nov 18, 2011 12:12AM) (new)

Blaine (blainedarden) Lol ... we don't have carpets either :)
I think our old one has been put in the shed cause our dog was sick for a couple of days over a year ago ... you try to clean it, but it just doesn't work.

so, no carpets ...

and just cause I feel like it: Kendra, our cairn terrier (though she's a bit older now)

ETA: I bought 'the charioteer' a while back, but I keep forgetting to read it.
then again, I'm still reading CJ Sansom's third in the Matthew Shardlake series

You just said that you bought it and then you forgot about it...

Obviously ''Zero'' is another of my all time favorites, but I wouldn't mind to read it alone (February?).

Awww! We used to have a Cairn when I was in elementary school. She was a sweetie.

As for the books, I haven't read Grey yet, but Zero is one of my favs. I've read it twice now, so I wouldn't mind Grey if they're kinda similar. Might be interesting. Otherwise, I don't think I have anything to nominate at the moment that isn't written by someone here in this group. I know, I have this HUGE stack of M/M on my coffee table, and one more book coming tomorrow, but none are good for the group. Ah well. I guess I'll just have to order more books again soon! lol.

Yes, I think it would be a good idea to do that. Like so many of you, I've read them both, enjoyed them both - but I have to say, that Jack and D rocked my world a little more than Miller and Danny. :)

message 624: by Blaine (new)

Blaine (blainedarden) Thanks, guys :)
Kendra's definitely huggable (and somewhat of an attention slut ... she keeps wanting more, more, more)

@Jordan: Cairns rock!

I was sitting on the fence on the December read, trying to decide whether or not to order the book.

Emanuela, I'm so glad you mentioned TMIAB. Josh, your response decided for me. That's one of my all time favorite books. I re-read it every couple of years.

I'm going to order the Larton Chronicles today.

message 628: by Jordan (new)

Go Pender! I have a feeling this will be a super fantastic read, and I just cannot wait for it... just thinking about it now, as I look out the window at the ever darkening sky, I just want to be home in front of that fireplace reading that book RIGHT NOW. lol. But I'm currently reading Anne's 18% Gray, and then I've got this HUGE fantasy novel someone recommended to me somewhere in this group!

message 629: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay, so just to be certain that I'm on the same page with everyone here... Shades of Gray is the December read, right?

Calathea | 6034 comments Cris S. wrote: "Okay, so just to be certain that I'm on the same page with everyone here... Shades of Gray is the December read, right?"

Um, no, Larton Chronicles is the December read.

Shades of Gray is the (maybe) January read, probably together with Zero at the Bone.

message 631: by [deleted user] (last edited Nov 22, 2011 07:26AM) (new)

Which of course is why I asked :) I couldn't quite get a handle on what was what from reading through the posts.

Thanks!

ETA: Then I scroll through again and there's the post clearly stating the book. *sigh*

message 633: by Josh (new)

Josh (joshlanyon) | 23709 comments Mod
Calathea is correct. Larton is up for December. Shades of Gray is (I believe) up for January, most likely with a comparison of Zero at the Bone. Larton Chronicles by James Anson

My Larton Chronicles by James Anson arrived today! Yay!!!

I adore ebooks for several reasons, but isn't it sometimes fun to wait impatiently for a package to arrive and then finally get to hold the book in your hands and flick through the pages?! :)

You did, did you? I bet I can't resist it either. In many other sites it's very strict that the challenge books are read exactly in the given month, but this isn't exactly a challenge book, is it? And the mood within this site isn't exactly strict, huh? ;)

Lou! How could you?!?! lol.

Yeah, I've got mine too. I've had it since... September? I think. scary thought, but I'm being good and trying not to read it until December.

However, The Last Herald-Mage by Mercedes Lackey was recommended to me somewhere in this group and I started to read it yesterday and now I can't put it down. Plus, the darn book is HUGE with three novels put together. I'm hoping when I get through the first one, I can pause for Larton and then go back to it.

Here's hoping!
