Shannon Well, I think it's officially gone over the top. Check out the thread I found on Amazon describing the Twilight Moms' latest publicity stunt.

Megan Hee-hee, thanks for that link, my day is so much better now.

Shannon I'm all for having your say about something, but mailing chess pieces? Think of the shipping costs, and the wasted fuel. How about print off a picture of a chess piece and mail it or e-mail it? Ha!

Yeah, it's pretty funny.

Megan Meanwhile, in chess it's not so good when you lose your queen (otherwise I would have won more often). It sounds like an act of surrender more than anything.

Kat Helgeson Good point Megan!

Toni I ended up commenting on the video apparently, which is a surprise since I was pretty sure the only comments that would be allowed would be positive ones.

I still can't see it as anything but obnoxious. I mean first of all, "Breaking Dawn" isn't in any danger of going anywhere like the campaigns they compared themselves to. Also it's not like EW is going to magically decide the book is awesome just because they get harassed by a bunch of obsessed fangirls.

And apparently everyone is entitled to like something or dislike something, unless you are a critic for a popular magazine. O_O I love fangirl logic.

Kat Helgeson What I want to know is, what's the measure of success here?

They're sending all their white chess pieces to EW to achieve...what, exactly?

The Roswell example cited keeping a favorite show on the air, so there's a quantifiable goal. But in this case...are they hoping that the reviewer is going to be bullied into rescinding his/her comments about the book?

REALLY?

And if it isn't that...what can possibly be the point of this?

Toni @ Helkat14: The only thing that comes to mind is the letter writing campaign they launched a little while ago. Apparently it's not meeting with much success if they're going to through this much trouble.

Shannon Yeah, what exactly do they hope to accomplish? EW is not going to rescind the review, and obviously they knew when they published it some people would be upset. I guess they just want EW to know that they disagree.

Kat Helgeson EW will be devastated to hear that not all people are in 100% agreement with their opinions of pop culture.

Oh, wait...

Shannon Ha!

I know I advocated e-mailing EW in response to the Twilight Moms' first campaign. You know, just to let EW know a lot of fans support the review, etc. But I really don't think I can get behind the chess piece thing. No need to make things crazier.
