Oh, that looks like so much fun. I would rather be doing that now.

We had a great time. The weather was perfect, the kids ran all over the place exploring, and I met a few new people. One gentleman grew up in Berlin and remembers being 10 years old when the city was being bombed in WWII. The kids would go out afterward and collect the splinters (small hunks of metal) because they were needed for the war effort.
Cashew chicken at Panda Inn, where there was a wild group of women having dinner in a private room, making a huge racket -- standing on chairs to make toasts, and generally yelling and cackling.I didn't mind, though.
soup and a chicken ragout pattytagliatelle with salmon and mushrooms and a salad with apple
icecream sprinkled with honey on a waffle with fresh strawberries
I'm going to try grilled mahi mahi tonight.
Jackie "the Librarian" wrote: "Me, too!"That grilled cheese thread got me craving! I didn’t have a fancy one though... plain old cheddar cheese with a salad... But so good!
[image error]Dinner! It was delicious, cheddar with tomato and basil, and lots of butter on the outside of the bread.
I have those bowls from Crate and Barrel (the green one in the background).
Jackie should post a picture of her dinner every night.

Thanks, LG and Bun! You're invited over for grilled cheese anytime! :)And yes, LG, that bowl is from a set from Crate and Barrel. I love them, because they remind me of my mom's old Pyrex set of colored bowls. She only has the big yellow one anymore.
LG, I have to admit that it is not homemade soup, but doctored up Campbells Tomato. I made it with mostly nonfat milk and a little half and half, basil, thyme, and dashes of garlic and onion powder. My ex has an absolutely amazing recipe for homemade tomato soup, starting with a roux with onions sauteeing in the butter, and a whole can of tomato juice, that I really need to get from him. But it makes way too much for a single person.
Black beans with kale and brown rice. The beans are spiced with chipotle and a little maple syrup - hot with a touch of sweet.

I don't care WHERE you post it, I've been looking for a great tomato soup recipe for ages.
*bounces knee while waiting*
@ Bun: That tomato soup sounds delicious- do you know how it freezes? Sans yogurt & cream? I always have a bumper crop of tomatoes at the end of the season & I can only make so much tomato sauce! --
I would like to have grilled cheese for dinner again tonight- but I’m going to make cream of mushroom soup & salad instead.
Sounds delicious. I don't think I've prepared a meal from an actual recipe for months, I'm a fridge scavenger.
BunWat wrote: "It freezes pretty good Helena. I sometimes add a sqeeze of lemon juice when I reheat it because it seems to get a little less acidic after freezing."Excellent! Thanks, Bun :D

I should be more specific; we keep a lot of frozen and instant foods in our fridge. Plus, we have roommates, so everyone shares what they have.
Fortunately, I don't have to resort to chugging ketchup out of the bottle, lol.

I haven't been out of college for very long, so I still tend to eat like a poor student: spagetti-os, cup-o-soup, macaroni and cheese from a box, etc. I used to love cooking real food, but I'm just too wiped except on the weekends, and even then it only gets as complicated as bacon and eggs. Also, Michaelangelo's frozen foods are super good, with real ingredients and tons of veggies.

Cynthia wrote: "ACK! (*hairball noise*) Spaghetti-Os? You don't really like them, do you Amber?"I do! It's probably nostalgia more than actual preference. And I don't mind (about the food snob thing), I used to be a lot pickier about my food until I got a job that keeps me away from home for twelve hours a day; after that, I just don't want to cook.
Jim wrote: I feel your arteries hardening from all the sodium as I read this.Lol. I do eat somewhat healthy foods for breakfast and lunch (like salads and oatmeal, etc), it's mostly just dinner than is so bad for me.
Thanks to our conversation, I am making "real" food for dinner tonight (steak, potatoes and veggies). Thanks for the motivation!
