I do also. My husband usually cooks. He seems to like it.

message 761: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments I may very well have Cynthia's Mac & Cheese tonight, my wife is getting mentally beat down by her boss for a day and a half, so she will definitely need some comfort food, and since it seems easy enough to make, she will be my first guinea pig for the recipe.

message 762: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Oh, it is not hard at all. You just have to have some wrist strength for all the whisking. It's good with a big green salad or some steamed broccoli on the side.

message 763: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Thank you, Cynthia. <3

Helena | 1056 comments I’m making two batches of soup today curried squash soup and roasted red pepper soup. I’ll let the kid decide which one we eat and which one we freeze. Whichever one we decide on, we’ll have it with some warm, crusty bread that I picked up at the bakery today- still warm from the oven and a salad.

message 765: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Yum. Good soup day here.

message 766: by Cheri (new)

Cheri | 795 comments Salmon on the bbq, wild rice and the last of the green beans from the garden. Not soup weather yet. But sounds yummy.

Angela~twistedmind~ (twistedmind) | 538 comments We're having our annual TN/AL game get together. Or, to be more exact, my parents are. Poor Bama (step-dad). He and my step-brother are die hard Bama fans, stranded in a sea of staunch Vols fans. We always smoke several pork shoulders and have all the trimmin's.....cowboy beans, cole slaw, this awesome cheese dip made with velveeta, sausage and rotel, potatoe salad, lit' smokies....amonge other little tasty fixin's. With plenty of sweets. Can't do without the sweets.

message 768: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11850 comments I always wonder if any of the natives of China actually eat that crap.

Sure, it's tasty, but it's oily, greasy and sure to make me gain 10 pounds.

You forgot oleaginous.

message 770: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11850 comments Yes, that too. And somewhat gelatinous.

No I wouldn't. That looks like 75% of all the other Chinese meals I've had.

Sadly, it is impossible to get good Chinese or Japanese food in my hood. Hard to find good Thai, though if you're careful on the Thai menus at least you can find something edible. It's probably safest to go with Korean.

I should go to Chinatown more often and find the good restaurants.

message 775: by Cynthia (new)

I love beets. Had them yesterday.

message 779: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

And I'm going to save the beet juice for soup stock.

Lobstergirl wrote: "And I'm going to save the beet juice for soup stock."

Smart, I have never done that. Guess I should be. yesterday I boiled a chicken all day long with a little organic rice. Should I have added the beet juice?

duh, me

message 781: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24812 comments Mod
I would probably refrigerate or freeze the beet juice for a day when I'm going to make vegetable stock, or maybe a day when I want purple rice.

message 782: by [deleted user] (new)

Purple rice sounds cool.

message 786: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Yum. When will be able to send food over the internet???

I picked my last two tomatoes off the vine last night and ate them in a salad. One was the first and only tomato that grew on my Black Krim, months after I was ready to give up on it. It was just slightly underripe, but it is supposed to SNOW this weekend. I don't remember ever having snow in October before.

Phil | 11850 comments We're having a wine club meeting tonight. First one ever for this group. My wife tried a few bruschetta recipes and I got to be the taste tester. Yum.

I would send some over the interwebs if I could.

Split Pea Soup is called Snert in Dutchland? Awesome!

message 792: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I like split pea soup -- but snert doesn't sound appetizing. Never mind.

Vermicelli with meat sauce. Kind of boring, but what are you gonna do?

Not crazy about the word vermicelli. Sounds like vermin. The celli part doesn't sound so appealing either.

Lobstergirl | 24812 comments Mod
That sounds good. Can you post a recipe?

message 799: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11850 comments I would imagine it's tater tots, cream of mushroom soup and some green beans.

message 800: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments Lobstergirl wrote: "That sounds good. Can you post a recipe?"

2 pounds ground beef browned and seasoned with salt and pepper to taste

can of Cream of Mushroom soup

1 cup sour cream

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

32 oz bag of Tater tots

Mixed vegetables (optional)

We have made both with and without the vegetables in it.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Spray a 9 x 13 dish with cooking spray

Brown the ground beef, seasoning to taste.
Once brown add soup and sour cream till the meat is covered.

Spread this evenly in the 9 x 13 dish, and cover evenly with 1 cup of shredded cheddar.

top this evenly with the tater tots, bake for 30 minutes, top with the other cup of shredded cheddar and then bake for another 5 minutes or so until the cheese is melted.
