Larry and Jim are both having biscuits. Uncanny...

message 456: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) No they weren't canned biscuits.

message 457: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments Mine wern't canned either, how uncanny is That?

message 458: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments I would have liked some biscuits. I had poached salmon and a small salad, but biscuits would have rounded out the meal.

message 459: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24812 comments Mod
I can see why you'd need to poach the salmon, what with Manhattan food prices.

message 460: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I had Pilferedbury biscuits.

message 461: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Yes, poaching is economical until you get caught.

message 462: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24812 comments Mod
Probably still cheaper than Barney Greengrass.

Actually large portions of the menu do seem very reasonably priced. (The melon in season is even free.) You can buy rye bread with butter for $2.50, oddly enough.

Phil | 11848 comments I bought Arby's for the family. I had a shrimp wonton soup from Costco.

The whole chain or just one franchise?

message 467: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11848 comments I'm considering changing the name to "Philby's"

"Uncanny." I get it! Sorry, I couldn't help myself, a decent pun is hard to come by.

Sarah | 13814 comments We made savory asparagus-mushroom bread pudding for dinner last night. It was fantastic. I'll be eating it for lunch again today.

Félix (habitseven) Leftover turkey meat loaf sandwiches.

message 474: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Some combination of sourdough bread, brie, pesto and green beans.

message 475: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Saturday night's dinner was a big win--scallops Provencal--scallops seared in a dry cast iron skillet, tossed with diced fresh tomatoes, garlic and shallots. I threw in some olives at the end. I ate the leftovers this morning.

I don't think you can go wrong with any combination of those things.

I picked up a package of fresh scallops at Costco the other day, carried them around the store a while, and ended up putting them back. They were about $12 a pound. Since I'm the only one who can eat them in my house, I decided it was a bit extravagant.

Later I got a small pack of frozen ones at Trader Joes at much more reasonable price.

I can't wait to eat them.

Oh Trader Joe's. Do they have nice scallops? Mine were from Sam's Club, and they are very heavily coated with an ice/preservative mix. I have to thaw them thoroughly, then let them dry on newspaper topped with paper towels. Got to be dry to get a good sear on them.

message 484: by Phil (new)

Spinach and lettuces salad topped with steamed green beans and Kefalograviera cheese.

message 486: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Never heard of Kefalograviera before, but Wikipedia helpfully points out that it is "very similar to Kefalotyri."

message 487: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24812 comments Mod
So, so true. Those wikipedia writers are really earning their pay.

It actually has a familiar taste to me, but it doesn't taste like some other cheese I've had, so I'm not sure what it's reminding me of.

message 488: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Wiki touts Kefalograviera's "salty flavor and rich aroma." Sound right?

message 489: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24812 comments Mod
More or less. Not as aromatic as that would suggest. It's a hard, crumbly cheese, better for grating than cutting.

I don't like it as much as the Amish cheese I also bought, which is the consistency of Havarti but more flavorful.

Dinner turned out great! Pretty easy too, here’s the link for the recipes, if you’re interested:
