Not necessary to change descriptions unless they are wrong. It is quite interesting to read different descriptions of the same book.

But you would think if a book is described at an authors site that the description used would be the one to use for all entries.

Descriptions often come from publishers and might well differ between editions based on how each publisher feels the book should be presented at that time. That's as valid as an author's description.

I might be able to see putting it as the default description if we don't have a description at all for a book edition. But I, for one, prefer to have the description match the one on the back of the book or inside the flaps of the dust jacket when I shelve a book.
