Danine (dulcemea) If you could change the ending to any book, which book and why? How would you have had it end?

The question this week is brought to you by Laurie. Thank you Laurie!

Chasidy Love this question, thanks Laurie.

Since there's still all this talk about the Twilight series, I would have to say I would change the ending of Breaking Dawn , only becuase I would love to see the reaction everyone would have.

Instead of Bella ending up with Edward happy, I would have had Bella leave Edward because she unmistakenly fell in love with Jacob. She would have made it through her child labor with the help of Edward but as soon as she had the baby, she would have gone off with Jacob never seeing the Cullen family again.

I know, I know, that would never happen although imagine the uproar of Meyers' fan base.

Emily | 74 comments Okay, this may sound cheesy, but it is the first book ending that came to mind. As an adult, I'm not sure if I'd make the change, but as a teenager I remember throwing Gone with the Wind across the room at 2am when I finally got to the last page and realized that Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara were not going to get together. Despite the fame of the film and the last "damning" line, I honestly didn't know, going into the book, that their love would be permanently unrequited. I was so frustrated, in that very teen sort of way, that all of the sexual tension was never resolved. It was terribly earth shattering for me!

Mary Todd (marytodd) | 924 comments I would have said all of Grisham's books except the Last Juror (which was EXCELLENT)until I read the last one, The Appeal.
I once thought the endings were too 'Hollywood' everybody gets what they deserve, good and bad. Then I read the Appeal and the ending was not as expected and I was a little disappointed.
Poor Grisham...damned if he does and damned if he doesn't!

Tera (TheBookishAbyss) | 231 comments I would have to change the ending of Cujo...I hate when children die in books and movies. I would have killed off the mom and let the boy live.

message 6: by Melynna (new)

Melynna I can't help but add another Twilight-related one. I was hoping (in that you-know-it-will-never-happen way) that Bella would just DIE already and then everyone else would realize how stupid and whiny she had been and would have a PARTY! That would have rocked.

Laurie (laurie0303) | 60 comments I would change the ending to The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray. It is the third book in the A Great and Terrible Beauty series, and the series started out great. By the time the third book ended, I was not even sure I was reading the same series. There were plot lines that could have developed more and did not, and things were so murky, like the author could not make the transition between what she envisioned and what came out on paper. I also really wanted for Gemma and Kartik to end up together, but he becomes a tree in the Borderlands. When I read that, I was like "what?!" I guess he is supposed to be the Tree of Knowledge or something. I wanted for him to be saved by Gemma and the two of them make it out of the Borderlands together. It would have been more predictable, but I think also would have shown that going through hardships yields rewards and you don't have to give up or lose everything to fully find yourself.

Tracy | 36 comments That's an easy one. I would change the ending to The Amber Spyglass, the final installment of Philip Pullman's amazing His Dark Materials trilogy. It's hard to swallow Will and Lyra living apart, sitting on the same bench in different worlds, remembering their love and shared history.

Instead, I'd have them marry and live in one of the infinite Oxfords, or in Cittagaze where they could help rebuild the city.

message 9: by Tana (new)

Tana Harrison I can think of books that I want to have sequels too but not many endings changed. I would love to read a different ending to The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.

Leslie | 312 comments Tana, I agree with you that a different ending to The Time Traveller's Wife would be nice. I really liked the book but wasn't a fan of the ending!
