Sorry, no.. Only Kings/Queens/Princes/Princesses: if the Lord in question is a bastard prince, I'd say yes:-D

♥Meagan♥ (fadedrainbows) | 101 comments What about Follow the River by James Alexander Thom for family/relationships (A2)?

A woman is captured by a group of Indians and becomes integrated into their society. The relationships could be one with the chieftain (he likes her, but she has rejected him once so far) or with the other people. She also has a baby while she is captured, and has her two sons with her (family?)

Sorry, no.. It seems like it's more about survival (it would be a good book for A6 for example).

And to clarify, I meant relationships within the family which are central to the plot.

kiki (keekers) | 815 comments so i rolled a 2 and a 6.
i was going to read We Need to Talk About Kevin for the 2 and Pygmy for part 6.

while pygmy SOUNDS like it would be heavy and depressing from the description, palahniuk is incredibly humorous (usually!) and mostly satire. pygmy IS shelved as satire, humor and funny. (and frighteningly as "abandoned" and "did not finish" a lot, too. hope it doesn't suck too much!)

will those work? thanks for your help! :)

Yes for both. As I said for A6, as long as you find the book humorous, you're good to go:-D The first book looks intriguing btw (added it to my TBR)!

I will accept The Killing of Crazy Horse, since he was the military leader. However, no to the first book:-)

Were they all as good as the first, if you don't mind my asking? I need to reread it before getting to the next, lol..

Dee (nushmutty) | 144 comments Melanie wrote: "Were they all as good as the first, if you don't mind my asking? I need to reread it..."

In my opinion, the first 4 were fantastic, but the last two were harder to get through. I found that I needed the main characters to show up again before I could really get interested. They were still well written, though, but I think the author focuses more on preaching than on storyline in those books. That's just my opinion, though! ;)

message 73: by Joanna (new)

Joanna (walker) | 433 comments I'm thinking of reading some plays by Euripides for this task. I rolled a 2 for the first die, so family/family relationships. I think his plays deal with family relations (e.g., Medea is about a mother who kills her children to seek revenge on the husband who is trying to leave her to marry someone else). Will this work?

Ten Plays by Euripides

Kate (klc23) | 161 comments I rolled a 5 for part A. Does the military character have to be realistic, or would something like The Last Battle work?

message 83: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 380 comments Christina wrote: "Could I read Peachesfor A6. The three girls in the story pick peaches for their summer job."

Sorry no; they don't live of the land like a farmer or rancher would...

Melanie (melaina) | 380 comments Kate wrote: "I rolled a 5 for part A. Does the military character have to be realistic, or would something like The Last Battle work?"

It could be fantasy; but one of the main characters has to be either some kind of actual or veteran soldier or military leader... For example i accepted a bio of Crazy Horse because he was the (military) leader of the Sioux during a war... I can't remember The Last Battle, but the military character does need to be minimally realistic

If he's searching for the truth about his family's history, ok, but in the synopsis it seemed like he was looking for the woman who saved his grandfather...?

Hi Melanie, I'm a little more than halfway through the book, and while he IS searching for the woman who saved his grandfather, another backstory is being told at the same time which recounts the history of his great great great grandmother and grandfather and leading up to the war. It's definitely about family relationships and family history.

Cheryl (eagle1964) | 270 comments Since I am coonfused as to what Juvenile Fiction is acceptable, I have to ask if the Thirty-Nine Clues books work for A4::

Maze of Bones by Rick Riordan or
Beyond the Grave by Jude Watson

message 91: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (m_ellereads) | 31 comments I rolled a 5 & a 3 and am planning on reading A: Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand and B: Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys. I hope these are acceptable selections.

message 92: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8954 comments when they say juvenile fiction that aren't acceptable, they mean books like the American Girls series, where the print is larger, more spaces between the lines etc...those that are designed for a new reader starting to read by themselves for the first time

It'll work because although it was published in 1850, it's set in 17th century Boston (more than 30 years earlier).. So you're good to go:-)
