What about Follow the River by James Alexander Thom for family/relationships (A2)?A woman is captured by a group of Indians and becomes integrated into their society. The relationships could be one with the chieftain (he likes her, but she has rejected him once so far) or with the other people. She also has a baby while she is captured, and has her two sons with her (family?)

Sorry, no.. It seems like it's more about survival (it would be a good book for A6 for example).
And to clarify, I meant relationships within the family which are central to the plot.
so i rolled a 2 and a 6. i was going to read We Need to Talk About Kevin for the 2 and Pygmy for part 6.
while pygmy SOUNDS like it would be heavy and depressing from the description, palahniuk is incredibly humorous (usually!) and mostly satire. pygmy IS shelved as satire, humor and funny. (and frighteningly as "abandoned" and "did not finish" a lot, too. hope it doesn't suck too much!)
will those work? thanks for your help! :)

Yes for both. As I said for A6, as long as you find the book humorous, you're good to go:-D The first book looks intriguing btw (added it to my TBR)!
Gayla wrote: "I rolled a 5 for Book A. Would you accept Empire of the Summer Moon or The Killing of Crazy Horse?"I will accept The Killing of Crazy Horse, since he was the military leader. However, no to the first book:-)

Thank you!

thanks! yes, "kevin" does sound intriguing...have a feeling i'll be crying a lot during that one! :(
I would like to use First Grave On The Right (sorry, the add book/author link not working) by Darynda Jones, which is shelved as Urban Fantasy and PNR. Does UF work for the fantasy category?
Fran wrote: "I would like to use First Grave On The Right (sorry, the add book/author link not working) by Darynda Jones, which is shelved as Urban Fantasy and PNR. Does UF work for the fantasy category?"yes, that will work:-D
Judithe wrote: "I'm looking for a book for B3, historical fiction. Would a historical romance qualify?"Yep:-D
Dee wrote: "For B.4 can I read Debt of Bones? It's fantasy, but it's in the past."Definitely, as long as it's min 100p!! (I only read the first SOT book, and really need to get back to the series!!) Enjoy!
Dee wrote: "Thanks! I look forward to taking a break after finishing book 7 to see what the prequel is like!"Were they all as good as the first, if you don't mind my asking? I need to reread it before getting to the next, lol..
Melanie wrote: "Were they all as good as the first, if you don't mind my asking? I need to reread it..."In my opinion, the first 4 were fantastic, but the last two were harder to get through. I found that I needed the main characters to show up again before I could really get interested. They were still well written, though, but I think the author focuses more on preaching than on storyline in those books. That's just my opinion, though! ;)
I'm thinking of reading some plays by Euripides for this task. I rolled a 2 for the first die, so family/family relationships. I think his plays deal with family relations (e.g., Medea is about a mother who kills her children to seek revenge on the husband who is trying to leave her to marry someone else). Will this work?Ten Plays by Euripides

Add to that the fact I'm staying with my grandmother? Not that high-class!!:-p
Hi, just wondering if the character Amy in Justin Cronin's The Passage would work for a character that is considered dead?http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/27...
Eilis wrote: "Hi, just wondering if the character Amy in Justin Cronin's The Passage would work for a character that is considered dead?http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/27..."
if Amy is a vampire, yes.. or if you can justify her being "dead"..
I rolled a 5 for part A. Does the military character have to be realistic, or would something like The Last Battle work?

Kate wrote: "I rolled a 5 for part A. Does the military character have to be realistic, or would something like The Last Battle work?"It could be fantasy; but one of the main characters has to be either some kind of actual or veteran soldier or military leader... For example i accepted a bio of Crazy Horse because he was the (military) leader of the Sioux during a war... I can't remember The Last Battle, but the military character does need to be minimally realistic
For A2 Hera, could I read Everything Is Illuminated since the main character is searching for truth of his family's history?
Angela wrote: "For A2 Hera, could I read Everything Is Illuminated since the main character is searching for truth of his family's history?"If he's searching for the truth about his family's history, ok, but in the synopsis it seemed like he was looking for the woman who saved his grandfather...?

Hi Melanie, I'm a little more than halfway through the book, and while he IS searching for the woman who saved his grandfather, another backstory is being told at the same time which recounts the history of his great great great grandmother and grandfather and leading up to the war. It's definitely about family relationships and family history.

Ok then:-D Enjoy!
Since I am coonfused as to what Juvenile Fiction is acceptable, I have to ask if the Thirty-Nine Clues books work for A4::Maze of Bones by Rick Riordan or
Beyond the Grave by Jude Watson
I rolled a 5 & a 3 and am planning on reading A: Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand and B: Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys. I hope these are acceptable selections.
when they say juvenile fiction that aren't acceptable, they mean books like the American Girls series, where the print is larger, more spaces between the lines etc...those that are designed for a new reader starting to read by themselves for the first timeCheryl wrote: "Since I am coonfused as to what Juvenile Fiction is acceptable, I have to ask if the Thirty-Nine Clues books work for A4::

For B5 (Learn something) Would you accept 48 Days to the Work You Love by Dan Miller it is definitely something I need to learn, LOL!
Thanks for answering. I am assuming that those books are acceptable. Yippee! I have wanted to read the series for a while now.
Brenda wrote: "For B5 (Learn something) Would you accept 48 Days to the Work You Love by Dan Miller it is definitely something I need to learn, LOL!"As long as you think you need to learn it, no prob:-D
I'm not sure that The Scarlet Letter fits the year requirements above but would it be considered a historical fiction? It's on the historical fiction list and spark notes classifies it as historical fiction. Just wanted to check.
