message 60: by Amber (new)

Amber (crazyaboutbooks) | 499 comments I've got a couple books to pick from for my free space pick
Right Hand Magic<----I have this on one of my yearly challenges
Wicked Lovely<-----got this one for .99 cents on my nook
Blood Promise<----need to finish this whole series sometime this year too.
so, which ever one I get to first will be my pick lol. Not much help @ narrowing it down yet but, maybe some one can help me with that?

message 61: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Ooh, I'm not on your team (or any tbh, just being a lurker) but I'll help choose because I'm a babe :D
WL is okay but not that amazing and 'Right Hand Magic' I haven't actually read but I remember seeing Steph (or someone else) apologise for a not-so-good BOM (there was anger I think...) sooo... with that logic, I'd go for 'Blood Promise' because it's awesome. Hope that helps! :)

message 62: by Amber (new)

Amber (crazyaboutbooks) | 499 comments I was leaning that way Josie so thanks for the push. I'm really hoping that Right Hand Magic isn't that bad :(

message 63: by Angi (new)

Angi | 485 comments I also vote for Blood Promise just because I LOVE that series :)

message 64: by KarenF (new)

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 540 comments OK - I won't always be this fast but it was a gloomy Sunday and I was being lazy and reading most of the day. Anyway, I finished both this week's shelf and the free space. Reviews below:

Free Space - Midnight Crystal by Jayne Castle - Finished 3/6/11 ★★★ - I love the Arcane Society books but I seem to find that the Jayne Castle books are not my favorites. I can't quite put my finger on why because I love the world of Harmony (especially the dust bunnies - and there's another great one here) but I never connect with the couples from these books the way I do with the historicals or the contemporaries in this series.

Midnight Crystal follows the same basic blueprint as the others in the Dreamlight trilogy, only with Alex and Marlowe the Winters and Jones families finally come together in a romantic way. That was a little underwhelming, which is what makes this a 3 star read instead of a 4 star one. There was so much build up on the Jones/Winters family relationships and Nicholas' revenge that I thought the resolution would be more exciting or tense. Given that, I still liked this book and both leads and this series is always entertaining.

Part of a series shelf - Dreamfever by Karen Marie Moning - Finished 3/7/11 ★★★★ - I never know how to rate these books. On the one hand, I tear through them and am definitely excited to read the next one. On the other hand, I don't feel like I really like many of these characters. I know everyone is on the Barrons love train but I feel like it didn't stop at my house because I'm not on it. And Mac - I thought with Faefever that I was turning the corner on her but she went right back to annoying me in this book. I wish Dani was older so that she and V'lane could run away and have a series of their own. Still, I give it four stars because the story is rollicking and I figure even if you don't like the characters, if they're sticking in your mind this much the author's done something right.

Hi Caroline - I hope you enjoy the Demonica book. It's one of my favorite series!

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) | 1143 comments Wow - Karen - good job...I so get the gloomy days, experiencing it today, raining as we speak in Southern Illinois...like we need more water, river is cresting into the farm fields. I will mark you down as finished. Sit back & take a breather, the 2nd shelf announcement will come out on Sat Mar 12.

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) | 1143 comments I finished Demonglass by Rachel Hawkins on 03.08.2011 ...4*s... This was a solid read - I liked this book just as well as Hex Hall maybe better except for the end because I have a cliffhanger to deal with..so much happened at the end of Demonglass that I cant wait for the third book to release & that may be a while as this 2nd book was released on Mar 1. :( other than that cliffhanger at the end it is a fast read - snarky in parts & I feel like Sophie needs to work on her people skills she knows that people are not trustworthy & still trusts them what is up with that? Great book

Caroline (zombiecazz) | 108 comments Part of a series shelf - Pleasure Unbound- Larissa Ione - Finished 3/7/11 ★★★
Review - I enjoyed this book. Some Good strong characters and I really liked the relationship between the brothers and also between our main couple. The slant on the demon world was well done and intriguing enough.
I think what let it down in the end was the bad guys. They weren't that bad and not that interesting. The Author didn't really get me emotionally invested in them, I didn't hate them, I was never worried about what they were going to do next and never felt my blood boil about the injustice or wrongness of what they did. I really couldn't care less about the bad guys activity at all.
So some work on the plot and this would have got a sound 4 Stars.

Steph (angel4492) | 32708 comments Hi, Betty Dolls! Quick announcement. Ming will be joining your team in place of one of your MIA players. I am still hoping Aske will make an appearance, but in the meantime, please welcome Ming.

She will start with our 2nd shelf announcement, which is this coming Sunday. For the first shelf, once the 6 of you have read, rated and reviewed your books, you'll earn your stamp. Starting w/the 2nd shelf, all 7 will need to read, rate & review.

Happy Reading! Welcome, Ming! (I keep thinking of Ming from Flash Gordon.) :)

message 71: by Ming (new)

Ming | 247 comments Hi Sallie and all other team members .. I am your new team member starting Sunday according to Steph.

Help me out on how this all works.

message 72: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32708 comments Great job, guys! Ya'll are moving quickly. :)

Ming, it's much easier to play than to explain, but basically:

* A new shelf will be announced every Sunday (my time, which is 14 hrs ahead of EST in the US). The shelf announcement will include a link to the shelf where you'll browse through the list looking for a book you'd like to read.
* When you've chosen a book from the shelf list, pop back over to your team thread and let them know what you'll be reading.
-- EXAMPLE: For shelf "part-of-a-series", I'll be reading ...
* When you've finished reading your book, pop back over to your team thread and let them know (1) when you finished (2) your ★ rating (3) a brief review
* Once all members of your team have read, rated and reviewed a book for the shelf, your team will receive a stamp on their bingo card for that shelf.
* The first team to get 5-in-a-row (BINGO - diagonal, horizontal or vertical) wins! :D

So, for shelf #1 'part-of-a-series' this team's 6 initial players will have to read, rate and review their book in order for the team to get the stamp. But, starting with shelf #2 'TBA' you will also need to pick a book and post your date read, rating and review (so, all players) to get a stamp. Make sense? If not, we're all happy to answer any questions. :)

message 73: by Ming (new)

Ming | 247 comments So you are 17 hours ahead of me. I'm on the west coast.

Australia??? Japan???

Funny about the flash gordon you are right (and one of the few who have guessed) Ming is a nickname .. Ming the merciless. :-D

I want a Bite me Betty Doll.

message 74: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25910 comments Steph & I immediately thought Ming the Merciless & Flash .... aaahhhh .... Saviour of the Universe

But that could be cause we are that sort of age. LOL.

As to time Ming, in Aus it is 9.12pm Thursday night. Right now. Japan is 2 hours behind cause we still have daylight saving here, but usually they are only 1 hour behind Aus.

Steph (angel4492) | 32708 comments I think you're right, Ming. I'm 14 hrs ahead of EST and I believe CA is 3 hrs behind them, so yep + 17. :)

"Pathetic Earthlings! Hurling your bodies out into the void without the slightest inkling of who or what is out here." Time for a Flash movie night.

message 79: by Angi (new)

Angi | 485 comments Welcome Ming and Caroline! :))

I finished "Fallen" and I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews and wasn't sure I would enjoy it. I'm pretty picky sometimes. The main complaint I've heard is that it is slow- yes this is a bit true. If your in a rush for the action to start it will be difficult for you because Lauren Kate (the author) takes a lot of time building the foundation and mystery. In a way I liked that. I love suspense and not being able to figure out the big mystery. My brain kept scrambling trying to put the pieces together. This wasn't a fantastic book but I liked it and I'll be ready the next one. I give it 4 stars.

I'll get back with you on my free space read. :)

anything that falls in the 3 categories posted by Steph...

Steph (angel4492) | 32708 comments @Jessica, you are welcome to add any PNR/UF/YA-F books to the group's bookshelf. If certain books from a series are missing, it's either an oversight or wasn't yet released at the time the others were added. Hope that helps.

@Caroline, Yes, absolutely. Enjoy! :)
