I finished Shade for the ya-fantasy shelf yesterday. The basic premise of this book is a unique and intriguing concept that had me hooked from the beginning. Everyone born after a certain date (known as the Shift) can see and communicate with ghosts. The story revolves around Aura, who becomes torn between two love interests - her dead boyfriend Logan that she communicates with through his ghost form and a new classmate, Zach. I listened to this one on audio and once I started listening, I didn't want to stop. The world building is very interesting and leaves some unanswered questions that I'm hoping are resolved in the next book. Of course, the ending is a cliff hanger as well. At least I don't have to wait a whole year for the next book though. :-)Finished 3/28
★★★★
I finished Blood Promise today and I'm giving it 4 stars.I found this one a tad predictable at times but at the same time it's my favourite of the series. It was good to see Rose away from everyone and her responsibilities. I felt as if her experiences in this one helped her grow up a little and lets face it she needed that... badly! I will see this series through to the end (I'm borrowing the next 2 from a friend) but I don't think I'll read the spin-off series.
And yay! for the stamp. Our bingo card is very pretty!

Way to go Team!!Great to see that Shade was a good read. I have that one and almost choose it as my YA_fantasy book this week. I've like Jeri Smith-Ready's other series and had hopes for this one. :-)

"That's the one!
I finished my YA Book on 3/30/11
I give it ★★★It's a cross between Twilight, having similar character personalities & hair color (the red head bad girl to name 1) AND the Sweep series by Cate Teirnan. The ending explanation/death was so stupid, I just laughed. I mean COME ON! Reallly? Whatever. I think it would be a GREAT book for the teen scene, but forget it if you actually live with them! Don't go there.
I think we lose our lack of imagination as we get older that this book requires, and we live for fantasy that requires no logic. At the end of this book, I think it demanded slightly that you buy into this.
The main character not acting like a teen, was odd because he was 600 y/o?? seemed creepy if you don't conjure your own personality for him.
Good review, Amy. I think that one is buried somewhere on my TBR list. I think I'll just let it sit there a bit longer. :)
Well Teamsters! I've started
and it's going really well for a YA.How's everyone else doing? We're halfway to our next stamp, yay!!!
Oh no you don't, you don't fool me Steph, HUH!! Said in high dudgeon. LOL Poor library book, I've already had it for 7 weeks, and had to plead with the librarian to give me more time last week but she only gave me another 7 days. It wasn't like anyone else had reserved it. And it's not a bad book
but I keep reading other stuff. But as soon as I finish Storm Glass I'll be on it.
I have library books to read aswell. Need to add them to my list for this week, I didn't get as many read last month as I'd planned. Not to worry! It's a new month :)
I finished
on 03/30/2011. I gave it ★★★★★. I loved it! It was not quite as gut-wrenching as the first or third in the series (I read Mockingjay immediately after finished Catching Fire), but it still packed an emotional wallop. Overall I absolutely loved the series and it's going on my keeper shelf. Despite breaking my heart practically every other page I want to read these books again. Also my romance novel addict's heart was less then thrilled with the way the books concluded (would have preferred less of a "Katniss is settling" feel to them.) And there you go, two reviews for the price of one. Mostly because I read Catching Fire and Mockingjay so close together that they've blended in my mind.
YA Fantasy 2/4/11 ★★★★
Another great start to a series from Maria Snyder. This one is in the same world as the Study series.
We again meet Opal Cowen, apprentice magician glassmaker who is given a mission by the Master Magicians to see if see can figure out what is going wrong with the Stormdancer Clan orbs. Where we meet Kade, the Stormdancer.
Many minor characters from the Study series pop up and it is like meeting old friends again. Many adventures ensue for Opal, and she is joined by Ulrick, another misfit glassmaker, as well as her sister Mara.
Ms Snyder does a great adventure story arc and I think her books should appeal to a very wide audience.
Demon books, not sure which I'll pick yet. I've got 2 in April Challenges plus another I wouldn't mind reading that would be pretty quick.I'm determined to finish my library book first though as it's due tomorrow after already being renewed past its capability. LOL. I was really hoping it would be on this shelf but alas its not.
I'm reading
I pre-ordered this one then lost it. I found it last week when I was decorating my bedroom. I almost bought another copy cause I really want to read it!
I'm just finishing up Darkness Everlasting then I might start it :)
Michelle, I've been seeing a lot of Kara Gillian books around GR lately, are they good? Should I add them to my list? LOL
Steph wrote: "Do you need to finish her Study series first before moving onto Glass, Sandra?"Not strictly necessary, but if you can I would. No big surprises popped up during the telling of this story, but I don't know about the next 2 in the trilogy.
I know how that is!!!! Did you put them in Fantasy Baseball? Good incentive to finish them if you did.

Sandra wrote: "Michelle, I've been seeing a lot of Kara Gillian books around GR lately, are they good? Should I add them to my list? LOL"I really like them but they aren't your typical UF book. The first one read like a crime/murder novel with the paranormal elements almost secondary to the story. There is an overall story arc but the focus is usually on the case in question. It's a very interesting world, it has a slightly darker feel than normal but I thoroughly enjoyed them. I bought the first one as a pre-order as I was desperate for a change of pace and I've kept up with that tradition. The books are in my 'keep' pile. Certain parts still have me guessing - ulterior motives aren't easily worked out by the 2nd chapter... so yeah, I'm hooked! lol :)
Sounds just like what I neeeeedddd!!!! Yay, more books to add to the tbr leaning tower of Sydney. Thanks Michelle, love a good mystery and dark to boot.
Sandra wrote: "Sounds just like what I neeeeedddd!!!! Yay, more books to add to the tbr leaning tower of Sydney. Thanks Michelle, love a good mystery and dark to boot."You're welcome! I gave the first one 5★ & the second 4★.
I'm scared with how quickly by TBR pile is growing, I didn't read much last year and I kept buying at my normal pace so it got huge! Not that it's stopping me adding to the pile I'm just changing over to kindle books where possible except for my absolute favourites as I'm running out of room! lol
I know the feeling, I keep buying (don't tell hubby but 19 books come in the post this week *gasp*) but I can't read that fast. Hubby brought home a new bookshelf for me, out of the blue, a couple of weeks ago and its just about full, even at double depth. (Its a 6 x 3 ft one or 1800 x 900 mm)
I've added the first 4 Kara Gillians to the list.

Lol... My hubby freaked out last week when one of my bookshelves snapped... yeah, I put a few too many books on it! :) Unfortunately it was my tbr shelf. If that's not a hint to get reading I'm not sure what is!
I only bought 7 this week but I pre-ordered another 11. Although it's Saturday again and that's my kindle buying day! I limit myself to one day a week and 8 books or I wouldn't stop. Although 1 click buying is hellish as I always lose track :(
