R2 TEAM THREAD: Team #3 Triple Threat [SECOND PLACE]

Off to update the list.

Are you switching your free space book to that one?

and Shadowfever

Now I just need to get reading!

Hope you enjoy both, Sherri!

Some good books being picked. I must agree that Phury's book wasn't my favourite either. Looking forward to seeing what everyone thinks of their books :)

Doing a buddy read tomorrow with Steph on River Marked, we've both got that as freespace read.
I know Shelleyrae has finished This Side of the Grave, she just needs to do the review etc.
Enjoy your son's sixth bday. What fun!

I know I know *covers head to protect from thrown objects*
I was actually really torn, I liked the storylines but I felt the book was a little flat. There was also too much cheesy romance between Cat and Bones. I prefer it when Frost leans to the UF side rather than the PNR side.

Updating our list.
I'm just over a third the way into River Marked for Freespace, and enjoying it hugely. Were-otters, enough said.

10/3/11 ★★★★★
Another great Mercy Thompson book. It begins not long after Mercy has returned from her kidnapping by a Fae Queen.
Stefan, the vampire, is in trouble, and clearly emaciated, Mercy's mother is trying to organise the wedding of her dreams and not Mercy's so Mercy decides to elope. Little does she know her mother has organised the elopement and everyone turns up for the wedding.
The honeymoon is courtesy of Uncle Mike, the Fae and Yo-Yo girl, the really scary Fae. So it does not bode well for a trouble free honeymoon. People keep dying when they go in the Columbia River, alla Jaws without the fin. And of course it is up to Mercy to do the deed and get rid of the monster.
She has the help of the local Indian Tribe, Coyote, Hawk, Thunderbird, Wolf and various other gods. And she needs all the help she can get.
This was a sweet, funny, scary read and I loved it.

I liked it. I wasn't in the mood to read it though so I was tempted to rate it lower cause of that (I didn't, but I wanted to). However, besides being a little too wordy and coming very close to having too many characters, I had no objections. I did just finish another book that had fairies and Sidhe in it, so I think that contributed to my less-than-stellar mood about reading it. I really do enjoy Butcher's world building though.

Since many of you are reading

On my tbr list, which is over 1,000 I own about 800 of them, so they truly are tbr. Everybody uses GR differently and that's OK.

My TBR list is over 1000 as well, probably at least half of that are books I actually own , the rest are books I want to read.
I read 300+ books a year, and I read in almost every genre, I only add books I sincerely want to read if I can get my hands on them. I use my TBR list when I go to second hand/thrift stores, at the library, when I'm shopping on and off line. There are books I can't get at the library for example and don't want to or can't buy at at the shop so I look for them when I go to the thrift stores.
I don't go through the site randomly looking for books, but I read book blogs, read GR reviews of friends, subscribe to the publishing newsletters etc and can't help but find books I want to read.
I just recently bought two titles that have been on my TBR list since I joined GR (published in 1991 and 1992) that I found online and did a little happy dance. Ok, its true I have enough books to keep me busy for a few years but hery - too much of a good thing is never enough :)

Thanks for that! That makes sense. All my to-read books are books I own, bought at thrift stores mostly, and I carry a list of authors in alphabetical order, of who I want to read. Then I have my handy iphone, to make sure I did not already buy it already. I decided to do it this way because I had 4 of the same feehan book here...AHHH! Anyway, There was a lady on here with 10,000 books and she said she just checked them all looking for free books... but then, how does someone keep up? I just don't get that system. Yours makes sense. Hers did not. Thanks!

Sorry, I missed your post, but I answered the one below. I absolutely agree that people use this site different ways, i definitely do it differently than most people. It's whatever works for you. No complaints here. I just didn't get this one person, because they tagged every book out there. I am not exaggerating. Kids, teen, adult & classic. She said she was doing it for free books, and it didn't make sense at all to me...I have a hard enough time being organized enough to have clean jeans, let alone 10,000 books I dont own on my to read list. It's just interesting to hear how people use this site. I mentioned being mad at patricia briggs too, so please don't think I was bothered by peoples to-read list. I am just trying to make sense and maybe do it different than how I do already. This site keeps me so much more organized than paper would! I would lose my lists everywhere! Thanks for your input!

Sandra, thanks for putting my stars up for me. i haven't figured out how to cut and paste on my android yet lol.
Also, for those of you who listen to audio books, when do you do it? I am listening to one right now, but it seems like i read a book much faster then i listen to one. Thanks!

I understand Harper Collins decision to have ebook purchases expire but I think 26 is a ridiculous number. You may not realise that libraries can only lend out one copy of an ebook at any one time as well so essentially that is only 1 year of lending (if it is borrowed twice a month)
We don't have elending at my library (and I don't have access anywhere else) but I asked the librarians who said popular paperback books tend to last between 3-5 years before they need to replace them so the lending policy should at least allow for a minimum comparable rate, particularly since they charge libraries almost the same price for an ebook as they do a paperback.

You are right - that seems excessive. If she is entering every Goodreads First Reads giveaway then it makes a bit of sense. Your chances of winning increase if you add the book to your TBR list

And that is just ridiculous of Harper Collins! My library has elending but I haven't tried them out yet. Only a few books in our favourite genre so far. But 26 goes isn't many.
And sorry Nici I haven't audiobooked either.

Also, I have over 1000 books on my TBR and unfortunately, I own 99% of them. Yeah... I have a problem. Roughly 200 of them are ebooks on my Kindle though so at least those aren't taking up room. I have to have a 2 bedroom apartment because one bedroom is for all my books. Ha!
ETA - Duh. 26 times, assuming a 2 week check-out period would last about a year. What can I say? I'm a ditz.

I can't believe the low # of reads before re-purchase. A bit higher would be better. Smaller libraries would really have trouble paying for all those re-buys.
I did not know, but was happy to read, that your chances of winning a GR ARC go up if you add the book to your wishlist. Thanks, Shelleyrae. I don't always do that, mainly b/c I use another computer program to track all my books vs. GR for all. But, I will definitely do that in the future. I won one and it was a bleh book I wish I'd never submitted for. Served me right for not reviewing what the bloody thing was actually about before entering. Every little thing to increase my chances of winning is a +. :)
Sassy, I know I own more books than I'll ever be able to read in my lifetime. Or at least, that's my guess, esp at the rate to which I add new ones. But, I love hearing about a hot, new series, finding a new book to read from friends' recommendations, blogs, etc. So, the mountain keeps a growin'. There are worse addictions to have, that's for sure. ;)
Nici, I was also anxious to read mine and still haven't received the HC in the mail. Thankfully, my hubby gifted me the eBook. Guess he was tired of listening to me moan and groan about the wait. ;) *spoiled* Hope your library book comes in soon.
Also, I listen to audiobooks. Sometimes I listen when running around town on errands, cleaning the house, working on crafts, etc. Anything that'll allow me to do something else while listening. I definitely couldn't just sit and listen. Boring and TOO slow for me. Sometimes I bail on an audiobook due to either a narrator who drives me nuts or the slowness of it. If I have the time and can find the book at the library, I sometimes read vs. listen. Some books, like Ward's BDB and KMM's Fever series, I LOVE listening to, so don't mind the time it takes. Definitely takes patience sometimes b/c, like you, I can read the book much faster than listening to it. :)
Sorry to ramble, but so many interesting discussions going at once.

I am sorry. I left a detailed review on the book page, but overall the story itself was AWESOME! But I took away 3 stars because there was no redemption for her previous rape. No intimacy mentioned at all, only implied. The negative oer shadows the positive. No love felt even though it's spoken. Just rubbed me way wrong, and no book has ever done that to me!
I am sorry! I hope I did not offend anyone, and I promise I am not looking for sex scenes, just some intimacy that doesn't take one sentence on their first honeymoon night. just weird.

But its certainly OK if it didn't do it for you.
Updated :)

To copy:
Hold your finger on what you want to copy until it's highlighted and two green markers pop up at each end of the highlighted text. Use the markers to expand or decrease the number of words included. Then tap the icon with what looks like 2 sheets of paper.
To paste: Just tap and hold your finger in the area you want to paste and tap "paste" button when it pops up.
Took me a while to figure that out myself ;)

Part of a Series 11/3/11 ★★★★
This was a hard book to rate. The writing for this whole series is phenomenal, J.R.Ward has done an excellent job. But Phury's total drug addictive personality was just so unattractive that it was hard to like him let alone love him.
This is a long book and we learn lots of interesting stuff about Sanctuary & the Chosen and John Matthew, Blay & Qhuinn. The 3 friends even get to take part in the war, yeah, Wrath is getting desperate.
The Omega makes an early appearance in this book with some shocking news and events unfold that are actually quite staggering. This news leads to kidnapping, massacres and results in Rehvenge becoming the leader of the Glymera.
We also learn a little more about Rehvenge and the reason he is a drug dealer. Not a pretty prospect.
Cormia, Phury's Chosen First Mate is sidelined for most of the book, and really I never got to know her enough to like her much either.
Still this was a must read book for those who love the BDB even if it is considered by most that Phury is the least liked brother.

*Warning for possible spoilers*
Not my favourite of the series to be honest. I do like Patricia's writing style but I would say that if you only like HEA then her books are maybe not for you. Her characters might end up happy in the end but it's a long hard road to get there and yes bad things do happen to good people.
I've been waiting for this one since book 1, I've been curious about Mercy's origins and it was interesting to finally get more of an insight into how she came to be what she is.
I would agree with Sandra in the sense that I felt the aftermath of her rape was dealt with previously, in the sense that she did go through a difficult adjusment period afterwards and found it hard to be round people, even those she trusted prior. I'm not condoning it but I think the fact that she killed him might have had a positive effect on her healing process. Everybody reacts differently though and she may have a relapse in a future book. I agree that there wasn't that much physical intimacy but I found their interactions to have a deeper level of comfort and she seemed to feel secure in his presence which I liked.
I didn't give it 5 stars because it took me a little while to get into it. Usually I devour these in one sitting but this took 2 :)

I have never quite got into audiobooks to be honest, I'm too impatient. I read a book in 2hrs or less, audiobooks can take 16-20hrs. I just can't do it :(
My tbr list isn't huge because I find it hard to control otherwise. I add random books rarely, only if they really grab my attention and I don't want to forget about them. Otherwise it's books I own, although I may own 5 or 6 in a series and only have the first added to my tbr shelf. I will add subsequent books when I'm going to read the series. Unless I'm in the process of hunting them down, if I add them then I don't buy doublers or miss any (in theory anyway!).
I don't know if any of you follow Fatin's blog or heard the news about her family but here is a link to Larissa Ione's blog
http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%...
I would recommend reading this. The last week in March some of our favourite author's are getting together to hold some ebay auctions to raise money for Fatin's family. Up for grab will be signed books, ARC's, Mentoring sessions and lots of amazing prizes! Lots of stuff we would all love to have and it's for a very good cause. Check it out :)
Also my thoughts are going out to everyone who is in Japan.

I thought I remembered seeing something about this that said shelving the books didn't affect your chances of winning, so I tracked it down... check message 184

review I really enjoyed this book. I liked some of the original twists, such as the spell on the furniture. Looking forward to finding out what happens with archer.
not sure how to do stars?
