Sherri | 781 comments I read the "In Death" series all in order, so it was great to see the evolution of the characters. I also listened to them on audiobook while driving for almost all of them (except the last couple of new releases). I like the lady that reads them and I actually miss her when I have to read one. It's funny but I hear her voice when I'm ready especially her Roarke voice when he says "darlin Eve" with that Irish accent.

Sandra | 25908 comments Yeah, I've heard Susan Erickson is good. I'm hoping to borrow her *laugh* from the library soon, but I've lucked out so far.

OK... I finished this book in a day! I Thirst for You (Primes, #2) by Susan Sizemore Finished 03/05/11 I give it ★★ 1/2. I liked the story, but there was so much cheesyness, I started deleting stars. Since I actually was so stuck on the story at first, I did give it 2.5 stars...

This was a straight up story. No depth, except when Jo & Marc talked to each other. Every action happened and that was it. It was also VERY predictable because it was. Example: Jo is a pilot, she notices a plane. That's all you get at first. They try to escape. Marc suggests a humvee...Good GOD! "Oh! The plane, I forgot!" really? in 12 hrs! You are a pilot! DUH!! Predictable! This happens throughout the story.

My quirps (NO SURPRISES!!) The cover for 1. I mean for real! This is a curly haired then shaved bald guy and a blonde wearing no make-up! What's on the cover? Longer straight hair and a brunette wearing blood red lipstick. Whatever #1.

Another quirp. Guy is described as not so good looking with a nose too big for his face... REALLY!! So I am supposed to picture a sexy Carl Malden?? Ummm NO! Ewwww! Whoever describes your sexy hot guy as not so good looking? Whatever #2!!

Yet another quirp. You got a smaller woman and a huge Vampire guy having sex on a concrete & a tile floor twice! Who does that in a book. Big guy, small girl?? Up on a wall! Him crushing her on a hard floor with no sheets or towel.. NOT HAPPENING!!

Oh yes! The biggie, and I was warned! "You complete me!" Not really a cheesy statement, but it was WAY in the wrong spot! THAT made the moment SOOOO cheesy! Stupid!

OK... Good points that earned stars... It was a fast read! Large print. The characters didn't talk cheesy. The story itself was halfway decent. I will read the books I have already, but I am not going to search them out.

I'll be around Kirkcaldy in Fife. My cousin is getting married the first weekend in June and my uncle turns 80 the next week. So my parents and I are going to visit. Should be fun.

It was still worth the read, because I already have it. I will still read the others I have, but I am not going to add to them... unless they get better. It DOES have potential! I have abandoned series, but this has not convinced me to do that yet. I'm hoping that because it is an older book, that may be the reason. Hopefully!

Let me add, that it had the science of the Lora Leigh Breeds books, The rational of exchanging blood of the Lara Adrian books, & the twisted carpathian bonding psychic thing of feehsn books. I just have issues. LOL!

Sandra | 25908 comments This Side of the Grave (Night Huntress, #5) by Jeaniene Frost
Vampires Shelf 4/5/11 ★★★★★

Book #5 in the Night Huntress series and this was as good as the rest of them. I've seen some reviews that didn't like this book because Cat and Bones didn't fight every other scene. They didn't and to me that was great, cause all those fights between them was just getting old.

This time some of the ghouls want to use the excuse of Cat being a half-breed to start a war and take over the Ghoul Nation. In the meantime they are offing vampires. So not happening on Cat and Bones watch.

Cat also gets some disturbing news on the family front. (view spoiler)

As always looking forward to the next one and some more cool Bones moves....

Shelleyrae at Book'd Out | 346 comments I've finished Ascension (May 4th) - it was a bit of a slow start but picked up well and I raced through the last few chapters - a good debut on the dark side of urban fantasy.

I will be reading the next one! They just started working on the 4th? I think. It has lots of potential and a "did you really just leave it like that?" ending :)

message 829: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Always easier to start a new series when there is only 1 or 2 books out than waiting until there is 9 or 10+... or is it just me that finds that daunting? I always wait until it's almost payday before a long series, just incase :)

message 830: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I tend to start new2me series which have less than 5 books in them. 10+ does tend to make me feel like it may be too late to get started on it, even though it shouldn't.

message 831: by ♡ Sassy ~ Amy ♡ (last edited May 06, 2011 08:43PM) (new)

♡ Sassy ~ Amy ♡ | 494 comments I always start series that have more than 5 books out because I read a book every other day, and I cannot handle cliffhangers or waiting the entire year for the next book to come out.

Since I have been buying my books at thrift stores, I can collect several series at once. When I buy them I add them as a to-read book, so I know I bought it. It is getting harder though because some people are watching what I get and grabbing the books too. Just because I do. Kinda funny! The old ladies are the worst! HAHA! I really don't fight, but some have grabbed books fast when I am running my fingers across checking authors.

I think it's hysterical when people start handing me books telling me I should read them. Again, Old ladies. (65+ - they tend to age younger here-look older than normal)

sorry! There's my 2 cents turning into a quarter of input!

♡ Sassy ~ Amy ♡ | 494 comments Oh... forgot to say... there are some authors I am not even ready to go to yet! I have a list, and it's long enough! I gave it to my flea market $1 a book lady & she saves them too!

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments So cute, Amy. Nice to have some add'l eyes lookin' out for ya. :)

message 834: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Gotta say, I prefer an author who has a lot of books out, just cause it usually means they have been roadtested by others already. If I find an author I like I read everything I can get my hands on, by them. Series or standalone, doesn't matter. And like Amy so not into cliffhangers if I don't have the next book handy.

Lucky Amy having others searching out books for you.

message 835: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Yeah, those are definitely reasons to start a series that's got a higher # of books out. I don't know why I tend to shy away from them. Maybe because I want to read them all and feel I have a better chance of doing that if there aren't so many out?

♡ Sassy ~ Amy ♡ | 494 comments I started a drinking game in some of my reviews. I followed the suggestion of a friend!

Historical Romance - any "wench" word deserves a shot. My last book got at least 32, but I lost some in there... too drunk by then! LOL!

Sherri | 781 comments Killing Rocks (The Bloodhound Files, #3) by D.D. Barant
Finished: 5/4/11

★★½

Killing Rocks is the third novel in The Bloodhound Files. This book thrusts FBI profiler Jace Valchek into the middle of interspecies war and another dimension, while tracking down a serial killer and trying to locate a powerful sorcerer that could send her home.

Sound like a like going on? Well, not so much. I found the pacing of this book fragmented. It kept jumping from dimensions and in and out of myth portals and the story never flowed for me. I especially was disappointed in the lack of established characters that I loved in the past two books, (ie. Cassius, Charlie and gang) being part of the story. It felt that they just made a guest appearance but there was minimal interaction with Jace and little character growth. There are a whole slew of new characters, the most interesting is Azura, a shape changing mage, stripper, and spy, but even she can’t save the story.

Overall, there is little development in the overall story or characters established in the first two books. The only highlight is that wise cracking Jace and her witty sarcasm, which bounces off most of the new character. Killing Rocks was a bit of a disappointment for me since I thoroughly enjoyed (and recommend) the first two books. Not sure how I feel about reading the next, I will just have to wait and see.

Amber (crazyaboutbooks) | 499 comments OH can't wait to read your review on the book above Sherri. I've had it in my TBR pile for some time now and always seem to have some other books peek my interest more, hope it's good.

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments I'll be reading Midnight Awakening (Midnight Breed, #3) by Lara Adrian for the shelf :)

message 847: by Crystal S (new)

Crystal S (crystalann) | 487 comments I finished As Shadows Fade (Gardella Vampire Chronicles, #5) by Colleen Gleason yesterday (04/06/11). I'm giving it ★★★★3/4 stars. I really enjoyed it, but it lost a smidgen of a star for a slightly abrupt and weird ending that I wasn't completely crazy about. Still, it was an excellent final book in an amazing series.

I'll read Dark Needs at Night's Edge (Immortals After Dark, #5) by Kresley Cole for my paranormal romance book.

Sandra | 25908 comments OK, just back from Mother's Day celebrations with MIL and it's a gorgeous sunny autumn day here.

Some good picks for our next shelf.

Looking at the other teams, several are on 4 squares but no-one can make Bingo this round.

If we finish our Vampires shelf and this one, Paranormal Romance we will also be on 4 squares. So read away ladies, we aren't out of it yet.
