Sandra | 25908 comments Another One Bites the Dust (Jaz Parks, #2) by Jennifer Rardin
Paranormal Fiction Shelf - 18/4/11 ★★★★

Number 2 in the Jaz Parks series.

CIA Pete has called the gang together to recover Bergman's dragon armour, it was being tested at a US military installation. It is an old vampire, Chien Lung who has taken it as he is obsessed with becoming a dragon. He's as nutty as a fruitcake but that just makes him more dangerous.

Lung has a couple of Vampires and Reavers to assist him in his quest to start a Chinese/American war, which is Edward Samos's (the Raptor) plan. Jaz is the only one who can see the Reaver's vulnerabilities so of course they want her dead.

This was a fun ride especially thinking of Jaz as a belly dancer at the Corpus Christi Winter Festival.

Looking forward to the next one.

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Linger (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #2) by Maggie Stiefvater I'm giving this one ★★★

Linger is the second installment in Sam & Grace's story. It was darker than the first one and had yet another cliff hanger ending. Linger changed points of view that often that it gave me a headache! I'm so glad there is only going to be one more in this series.

I loved Shiver but didn't really enjoy Linger all that much, I will read Forever though - just to finish it if nothing else

Sandra | 25908 comments Judithe and Laura have been very creative and done Bingo Cards so you can see where everyone is up to.

This is Laura's one, red squares are awarded stamps, green ones are pending.

Laura's Bingo Cards

As you can see we appear to be the lucky team so far, but things can change quickly. LOL.

message 679: by Amanda A (new)

Amanda A | 812 comments Kitty and the Silver Bullet (Kitty Norville, #4) by Carrie Vaughn
Finished 4/19
★★★★

Kitty's mother is facing a medical crisis that brings Kitty home to Denver even though she was previously exiled by Carl, the alpha werewolf of the Denver pack. There's a major battle for control brewing between two master vampires and problems in the local pack where the members are ready to challenge the abusive alphas. Kitty tries to avoid being pulled into these situations, but inevitably finds herself in the middle of it all.

I enjoyed seeing Kitty interact more with her family in this book. It is obvious she really cares for them. I also enjoyed the continued evolvement of her relationship with Ben, which adds a more romantic element to the series. It seemed like there were more vampire politics involved in this one, but I didn't feel that it took away from the plot. It's full of action and also resolves some of the earlier storylines. Looking forward to the next one!

Sandra | 25908 comments Hope everyone is enjoying their reads, and you get some time to read over the Easter weekend :)

We've got a 5 day weekend this Easter here in Aus and the weather so far this Good Friday is excellent!

message 682: by Crystal S (new)

Crystal S (crystalann) | 487 comments Finished Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger during my lunch break today (04/21/11). Giving it ★★★★★. I very much enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next one. I loved the interactions between Alexia and Lord Maccon. Their arguments made me laugh out loud (seriously, I was sitting at the table in the hospital cafeteria giggling). Can't think of much else to say so I'll leave it at that. :-)

message 683: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Yay, you loved it! Me too! Just be aware there is a big cliffhanger at the end of #2, so have #3 handy.

Lucky you! It's pretty dull here today and a little windy, I'm hoping it brightens up later.
As for the reading... my Mum phoned yesterday and said she was going to come pick the boys up and take them toy shopping for their Easter. I'm hoping she'll take Ava-rose too. It depends whether she's coming back here or taking them straight to hers for the night. I'm working tomorrow but an afternoon without the kids... :)

I'm trying to read Eternal Hunger (Mark of the Vampire #1) by Laura Wright Atlantis Unleashed (Warriors of Poseidon, #3) by Alyssa Day by tomorrow so I can pass them on. Fingers crossed!
And bring on Sunday so I can eat choclate :)
I'll check in for the shelf tomorrow but I doubt I'll be able to pick a book until I get home, my phone usually crashes trying to download the pages.

♡ Sassy ~ Amy ♡ | 494 comments I finally finished Ashes of Midnight (Midnight Breed, #6) by Lara Adrian 22/4/11 (love the non US date!) I give it ★★★★. The reviews of this book were bad, but I think they missed something. I gave it 4 stars because it wasn't the best, but it was pretty good too.

So, synopsis is: Reichen's Darkhaven is attacked in last book, and this book picks up as it is happening in more detail. All of his people are killed, even children. The responsible party is a man named Wilhelm Roth who is blood mate to Claire, Andreas Reichen's old flame.
If you know exactly that Andreas left Claire because he killed a kid with his fire power (detailed in book) because she was standing too close, and this Roth guy convinced Claire to be his mate after his wife died. She did not think Andre was coming back & she was young and stupid. She always Loved Andre, he always loved her, so avoiding and not caring where Roth was and his business was plausable. He was also an ass, so she did her own thing. That being said, the story works. Otherwise, you read other reviews, and think she knew the whole time that her husband/mate was bad/evil and story seems stupid. The first alalogy is what the book really says, not the misinterpereted second.
Reading these books, I find it easier to GET the story reading at face value rather than reading into it as if it were Romeo & Juliet (My daughter is taking that apart this term in school... lucky us!) My brain can't handle reading into a vampire book. Get real!
Sooooo.... sorry for the run on, the whole story took a twist, and the back story thread (Dragos) just got more exciting. Now I can't wait for the next book. A new Gen One guy is on the team too. Not much story there in this book though. His presence is made known though.
That's it for my review. I am going to cut and paste it on the actual review, so I don't do another blase run on (I need a / for over the e on blase).

message 688: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Amy, I enjoyed your 'run on', brought back the book for me. I agree with you that the idea was plausible but I only gave it 3 stars. Still enjoying the series, I'm up to #8, and still waiting to learn more of the Gen One new guy.

Hmmm...I was thinking it would come sooner. Now looking at the other books, 9 is his book. Well. So much for that then, eh? I did not like Claire. She had no personality. LOL!

message 690: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments He gets mentioned barely as just one the the guys, although he doesn't seem to really interact. We'll have to wait till it's his book I'm thinking.
